    Nevada National Security Site officials have purchased two unmanned aerial vehicles to detect radiation and provide an eye from above in the event of an emergency. The airplanes will be tested in coming months over a secure federal reservation north of Las Vegas with a goal of being ready to be sent elsewhere if needed. The area is formerly known as the Nevada Test Site but is now used for security and emergency response training, national security and defense experiments, and nuclear weapons stockpile maintenance.

    The Fallon man who participated in the armed occupation of an Oregon bird sanctuary has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge. In exchange for Corey Lequieu's (lee-cue) plea, prosecutors agreed to drop weapons charges. A federal judge scheduled sentencing for Aug. 25. Prosecutors will recommend 2 ½ years in prison. The Ammon Bundy-led takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge began Jan. 2 and lasted nearly six weeks. 26 defendants were charged with conspiracy.

    Two Fernley residents have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect related to the Friday night disappearance of 8 year old Camron Ritchson. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office booked 24yo William Michael McLean, and 43yo Betty Sue Bond, into the Lyon County jail. Authorities searched for Camron on Friday night after he was reported missing. They found him healthy on Saturday about a block away from where he was last seen in south Fernley.

  • 5/22/16 - 1 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    A suspect in a March 4 robbery is back in custody at the Washoe County jail. Kevin Clausen, 51, was booked on charges of attempted robbery and murder as well as charges of battery causing substantial bodily harm with the use of a deadly weapon and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. Nancy Moreilli, the owner of the 7-Eleven at Wells Avenue and Cheney Street, was outside the store going to the bank to make a deposit when Clausen allegedly shot her. Witnesses saw him run down the road to a truck, and Reno police spotted him not long after.
