The Truckee River is beginning to recede after reaching its crest in Downtown Reno of 11.35 feet at 8:45 Thursday night. Moderate flooding for industrial and agricultural areas of Sparks and east Reno. The atmospheric river that has brought recent torrential rains to Northern Nevada and California is beginning to move to the south, but the Flood Warning for the Truckee River remains in effect until Saturday morning.

Swift water rescue teams saved at least two people this morning near Mill and McCarran. Workers at ACS, an HVAC business off Mill, arrived to work around 7am, and heard someone screaming for help in the willow trees near the river. Ben Barlow with American Chiller Service.

According to the National Weather Service, the Truckee River will reach flood stage in the Sparks industrial area at this hour. Current projections are that significant flooding will occur through this evening, continuing into Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has revised a previous forecast and now says the Truckee River through Sparks will reach flood stage in the Sparks Industrial area sometime between four and six tomorrow morning. The area that is expected to be effected is generally defined as south of Interstate 80, north of the Truckee River, between Vista Boulevard to the east, and US 395 to the west. Current projections are that significant flooding will occur through Friday afternoon. Warmer temperatures and recent rainfall have caused significant water runoff, raising Truckee River levels. The city encourages all businesses to take steps to prevent possible flooding to their properties. Localized flooding may occur throughout the city. The city is asking the public to stay clear of the Truckee River until high and swift water levels recede. This includes city parks and paths.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Warning for the Truckee River At Reno affecting Washoe County, the East Fork Carson River Below Markleeville affecting Alpine and Douglas Counties. Meteorologists have changed Forecast flooding from Minor to Moderate severity for the Truckee River At Vista affecting Storey and Washoe Counties, For the Truckee River...including Reno.

Minor flooding is occurring...with Moderate flooding forecast, for the East Fork Carson River...including Markleeville.

Run off from heavy rain that moved through much of the Sierra will continue to cause rises on area rivers through the night. Due to

saturated soils a rapid rise is likely to occur on the Truckee and Carson Rivers.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Watch and High Wind Warning for the greater Reno area in effect now through Friday morning. Residents in flood-prone areas should be on high alert. The highest risk of flooding is in urban areas and along creeks, streams and poor drainage areas. A High Wind Warning is in effect until midnight tonight. Strong winds are expected to intensify on the ridges and foothills this morning with downslope winds developing later in the day. Wind-prone areas such as I-580 through Washoe Valley could see gusts as strong as 90 mph.

The Truckee Meadows, and the surrounding areas, are going to get hit today and this evening by another atmospheric river, raising stream levels and drainage ditches, and the potential for more flooding.

The atmospheric river heading through the region tomorrow is expected to bring up to an inch of rain; a lot more to the Sierra.
