It was announced today that the University of Nevada Reno and football coach Brian Polian have mutually decided to part ways, and that Polian will not be retained as the Wolf Pack’s head coach. A national search to identify the next head coach for the program will begin immediately. In a statement he said: “I appreciate the opportunity that I was given by President Johnson and the University of Nevada four years ago. I felt, and continue to feel, that we were building a solid foundation for this program. However, this season was fraught with adversity and in the end, we did not win enough games. Like every coach, I understand that this is a business. I wish we would have produced better results in 2016."

A fire this morning completely destroyed a home in Palomino Valley. The home in the 6700 Quaking Aspen Road was reported to be on fire just after 10 a.m. By the time Truckee Meadows Fire was on scene, the 3-story home was fully involved. The wildland near the home also caught fire but it was quickly extinguished. A propane tank was damaged and fire crews are letting the propane burn off safely.

If you were told grazing cattle is bad for the environment, that may be all wrong. A former environmental lawyer has written a new book praising the good work cattle do to keep the planet healthy. Author Nicolette Hahn Niman, says in her new book "Defending Beef: The Case for Sustainable Meat Production" raising cattle can have positive effects on the land. She also defends eating meat.
