    Crews are mopping up a brush fire that started in northeast Washoe Valley last night. The Mason fire was held to just nine acres. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to to the fire just before 9:00 PM. Meanwhile, The Marina fire, burning north of Lee Vining and west of Mono Lake is now 37% contained. The total acreage burned 758 acres at last estimate. Highway 395 has reopened at Lee Vining, and all evacuation advisories have been lifted. The fire has been determined to be human-caused.

The cause is still under investigation, but witnesses report target shooting in the area earlier in the day. Command has now been turned over to crews from the BLM.

    Starting next month, Nevada motorists will have to replace their vehicle license plates every eight years. A bill approved by last year's Legislature to address law enforcement agencies' complaints about many plates being unreadable will go into effect July 1. Department of Motor Vehicles officials say license plates fade from exposure to the elements. They are supposed to be readable from about 100 feet away. The new plate will require an $8 fee.
