The Nevada Department of Transportation is starting to resurface the I-580 Carson City Freeway, U.S. 50 east and Alternate 395.

A town hall meeting took place at Hug High yesterday to address the problem of overcrowding in local schools.

The Pyramid Fire, burning just south of Pyramid Lake, was started by target shooters who fled the area without reporting the fire, according to the Bureau of land Management.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Reno man for stealing some items from the K-Mart in South Lake Tahoe, and then dropping the gun he had on him in the parking lot. 33 year old Micah Flaherty was seen running from the store with the stolen items, toward his car, when he apparently dropped, then picked up, what appeared to be a handgun. Flaherty then drove off in his silver Volkswagen. Deputies found Flaherty a short time later near highway 50 and Stateline, and recovered the items taken from K-mart, as well as drug paraphernalia and the gun, which turned out to be an air soft bb gun.

A brush fire continues burning about a mile south of Pyramid Lake. The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center says the blaze has burned about 100 acres and is 30 percent contained. There are no structures threatened at this time. The fire is burning in light brush and grass.
