My Winter Survival Guide (For Mental Health)

It’s dark by 4:30 p.m., it’s brutally cold, and many days are cloudy and grey.
Winter is hard. For all of us. And it’s especially hard when you live somewhere that’s really cold.
I’m writing to you from Loves Park, IL (about 90 miles outside of Chicago) where the average temperature in the winter is about 20 degrees. I remember some winters where the temp dropped to 20 below zero with the windchill. It’s pretty brutal.
But every year, the winter comes and I must endure it, along with millions of other people. So, to help myself get through (especially with the added restrictions this year due to COVID), I wrote a list of reminders, rituals and practices that will help my sanity this winter, and hopefully help yours as well.
