Pussy: A Reclamation Takeaways & How This Book is Affecting My Life
“Pussy. It’s arguably the most powerful pejorative word in the English language. It is the ultimate salacious smack to a woman’s dignity, used when the intention is to hurt, humiliate, and fracture her humanity… And with this book, I intend to return that word to its rightful place—as the highest of all possible compliments, as a sacred living prayer.” —Mama Gena
I posted in an online women’s group this question:
“If there was one book that helped you embody your feminine, and / or deepen your sensuality, what was it?”
And the answer was quite unanimous:
Pussy: A Reclamation.
I had heard of the book a few times before, but I hadn’t opened myself up to it yet. I was intrigued by the title and felt called to read it. Once I made the decision to dive in, I wanted to hop right on to Amazon and order it, but I hesitated. Why? Because I use my dad’s Prime account.
I felt weird ordering a book with such a seemingly vulgar title.
And so began my journey with the book, before I even ordered it.
I sat with the decision for a few days, and even asked a couple girlfriends if they had a prime account I could use. Obviously, I could’ve just paid for shipping—and I’m not so cheap that I was unwilling to do that—but something inside me knew. I knew I needed to take this first step of reclamation by ordering the book where I was afraid to.
I figured, what the hell! I’m 30 years old for Goddess sake! I can read this book and say the word “pussy” if I want to! Lol.
So I ordered it. And instantly I felt a shift. I felt a little more free.
The journey continued.
Now that I’ve read the whole thing, and filled the book with an entire pad of post-it notes, I am a changed woman. I can wholeheartedly say, I feel different.
It’s hard to say exactly why or how, but in this solo podcast episode I do my best to share my takeaways with you and I also share specific examples of how I have actually implemented these takeaways into my life.
When it comes to Pussy: A Reclamation, there is a before, and there is an after.
