Securing childcare is a challenge even in the best of times for many parents. But what do you do when schools and some daycares are shuttered in the middle of a health crisis? Today on the news we talk local and state resources with Emily Campbell of the Grand County COVID-19 Task Force childcare subcommittee. Plus, hear about other resources with Moab City Mayor Emily Niehaus, an interview with a pulmonary critical care doctor in Colorado, and take a stroll down memory lane through a place currently not available for a visit with Public Lands Corner.

  • Get An Earful - Moab Musicians on Virtual Connection
In a time where live music events are cancelled for public safety, and even jamming in the same room with friends is risky, Moab’s music community is trying to figure out how to stay connected. Local musicians have seen their spring gigs evaporate, so they are re-adjusting to a new reality, one with virtual tip jars and mutual creative sessions via apps. Today on Earful, we check in with a few of Moab’s musicians about their experience, and how they are keeping the local music scene going at home and online.
    Show Notes:
Thank you to Moab musicians Jon O, Lisa Hathaway, Jeff Brennan, and Josie Kovash for sharing your thoughts for this piece. Music clips heard in today’s Earful are from virtual Community Music Night, a socially distant stoop concert by the Railbirds, Jon O Radio, and Laurel Hagen, who sang ‘Il Canto della Verbena,’ in a red rock side canyon.

Utah Governor Gary Herbert has placed a moratorium on evictions for state residents who have suffered a wage or job loss as a result of COVID-19. The order does not relieve renters of their financial obligations but does allow them to defer rent payments as they recover from economic damage. Plus, new orders from the Southeast Utah Health Department, blood testing for antibodies in Telluride, and the Moab Sun News reports on how the health crisis is placing more pressures on people living without running water on the Navajo Nation.
