Moab Regional Hospital staff are urging Governor Gary Herbert to shut down all non-essential business service in Moab including restaurants, lodging, and – if its in his ‘realm of influence' - the National Parks. Their top staff wrote Herbert a letter Monday, saying that most projections place the United States roughly two weeks behind Italy in terms of a likely surge in cases of COVID-19. To avoid the same fate – where the number of patients exceed the capacity of healthcare services - they said “we need to do more now.” On Monday we spoke with Jen Sadoff, Moab Regional Hospital CEO, to learn more about their position and preparedness.

During an emergency meeting of the Grand County Council, members and staff debated how to slow the spread of coronavirus into and within the community. Before the county council members was a serious decision – do they listen to local health officials and place temporary restrictions on mass gatherings and events to slow COVID-19 and protect local healthcare resources? Or do they listen to the business community and reverse course, attempting to stave off further damages to the local economy? It was an emotionally charged meeting, which ultimately split the council on a motion to enact temporary restrictions.
