  • The lowdown on Spanish football and the Coronavirus

There was no football to recap this weekend, with Spain and the world of Spanish football hit hard by the Coronavirus this past week. Topics that seemed so important just a few days ago suddenly faded into the background.

While we’re not medical experts, we did want to bring you the lowdown from Spain. So, in this special episode, host Euan McTear (@emctear) is joined by Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) and by Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) to lay out a timeline of the Coronavirus impacting Spanish football, to discuss the games and leagues that have been postponed, to reflect on the way it has brought people together on their balconies and to ask the big question: Who out of Román or Paco has the most rolls of toilet paper stored away?

We hope you’ll join us to reflect on one of the most unique and strangest weeks in the history of Spanish football.

  • Matchday 27 recap: You can't bet on Betis!

Real Betis hadn't won any of their previous seven matches... so of course they went out and defeated the league leaders Real Madrid. That result means Barcelona are leaders again and we analyse their win over Real Sociedad with Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee).

There's also a recap of Atlético Madrid and Sevilla's unusual draw with Sam Leveridge (@samleveridge), a moment of relief from Mallorca-based Alex Fitzpatrick (@Mallorcalex100) after the islanders got their first away win, a look at Valencia's latest disappointing away result with Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) and some all-Basque Copa del Rey final chat with Dan Parry (@DanParry_).

  • The Butcher of Bilbao Story

One of the most shocking stories in the history of Spanish football is the Butcher of Bilbao story. This was the nickname that was given to Athletic Club defender Andoni Goikoetxea, who broke Diego Maradona's leg, snapping it like a piece of wood as the Argentine would later describe it.

This wasn't the only incident to this story, though. As Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) explains in this podcast, there was a brewing rivalry between Athletic Club and Barcelona at that time. Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) then details the many incidents that took place in matches between these teams between 1981 and 1984.

In part two of this podcast, Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) explains what happened to Maradona next and Dan Parry (@DanParry_) reflects on Goikoetxea's legacy. And it's all hosted by Euan McTear (@emctear).

  • How José Bordalás Turned Getafe Into a Force

Getafe have had a remarkable three and a half years under José Bordalás. Their coach arrived when they were second bottom of the second division and he led them to the Europa League and to the point where they're now a genuine contender for Champions League qualification. So, how did they do it? That's what we discuss in this midweek podcast.

Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) sets the scene by explaining how far Getafe had fallen. Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) picks up the story by reflecting on Bordalás' back story and his first few months at the club. Getafe fan Fran Iborra (@FranIborra16) reflects on the change in mentality that came with Bordalás. Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) explains how Getafe consolidated their place in the top division and went all the way to Europe. Sam Leveridge (@samleveridge) tells the stories of some of Bordalás' confrontations with the press and other coaches. And host Euan McTear (@emctear) speaks about how Getafe have done so far in the Europa League.

It's all put together along with some commentary clips from Cadena Copa and Bleacher Report, as well as the very catchy Getafe club anthem.
