由平は、油屋の娘・阿芳と心中をしようとしたが、生き残ってしまった。

阿芳に申し訳ないと、由平は三度海に身を投げようとしたが、結局村に帰った。

翌日、阿芳の遺体が回収され、村人の目に堪えられなかった由平は村を出た。

YOSHIHEI tried to commit suicide with OYOSHI, the daughter of an oil merchant, but she survived.

Feeling sorry for OYOSHI, YOSHIHEI tried to throw himself into the sea three times, but eventually returned to his village.

The next day, OYOSHI's body was recovered, and unable to bear the eyes of the villagers, YOSHIHEI left the village.
