私は子供の頃、女中をいじめた。特に鈍臭い女中をいじめた。

お慶は鈍臭い女中だった。りんごの皮をむいてる時、ナイフの手を休めて、いつまでもぼーっとしていた。

私は子供のくせに「おい、お慶、日は短いのだぞ」と叱ったりなどもした。

ある夏の日、私はお慶に、絵本から数百ある兵隊の絵を切り抜くよう命じた。

お慶は不器用な上に、汗っかきなので、出来上がりはどれも汗でくちゃくちゃだった。

腹を立てた私は、お慶の肩を蹴った。しかし、お慶は顔を押さえ、「親にさえ顔を踏まれたことはない」と恨みがましく泣き伏した。

Okei was a dull wench. When she was peeling apples, she would rest her hand on the knife and stand idle for hours.

Even as a child, I would scold her, saying, "Hey, Okei, the days are short.

One summer day, I ordered Okei to cut out hundreds of pictures of soldiers from a picture book.

Okei was clumsy and sweaty, so all the finished pictures were a mess of sweat.

I got angry and kicked Okei in the shoulder. But Okei held his face and cried bitterly, "Even my parents never stepped on my face.
