昔、相模国足柄山に金太郎という強い子供があり、山姥といっしょに暮らしていました。

金太郎は力がとても強く、石臼や俵を持ち上げ、近所の大人との相撲でも負けません。

つまらなくなった金太郎は、山姥からもらった大きなまさかりを背負って、野山を駆け巡っていました。

Once upon a time, there was a strong child named Kintaro who lived with Yamamba on Ashigara Mountain in Sagami-no-kuni.

Kintaro was so strong that he could lift a millstone and a bale and never lost in a wrestling match against adults in the neighborhood.

When Kintaro became bored, he ran around the fields and mountains with a big masakari on his back, which Yamamba had given him.
