尾張国にお百姓がおりました。ある暑い夏の日、田んぼの水の様子を見に行きますと、大きな雷が落ちました。

雷の落ちたあたりに行ってみますと、そこには小さな子供のような雷が転げていました。

「これが雷か」と、お百姓が鍬で打ち殺そうとしますと、雷は「誰かを害するようなつもりはないんだ。落ちてしまっただけなんだ。勘弁してくれ」と言います。

お百姓が許してやりますと、雷は「ありがとう。御礼をしたいがなにか欲しいものはあるか？」と言い、

お百姓は「子供が出来ないのが不足だ」と言いました。

There was a farmer in Owari Province. One hot summer day, he went to check on the water in his rice paddies and was struck by a huge thunderbolt.
