長者の娘おかめは、その夫・八右衞門をひじょうに好いていた。

おかめは結婚後二年にもならないうちに、当時流行していた病気にかかって、どんな医者も匙を投げるようになった。

おかめは看護を受けながら、毎日次第に弱って行って、とうとう自分でも助からぬ事がわかってきた。

そこで彼女は夫を呼んで、最期の願いを言った。

Okame, the daughter of a wealthy man, was very fond of her husband, Hachiemon.

Within two years of their marriage, Okame contracted a disease so prevalent at the time that all doctors began to refuse to see her.

Okame was being cared for, but each day she grew weaker and weaker until finally she realized that she could not help herself.

So she called her husband and told him of her last wish.
