灼熱した生殖の幻覚させる後光のような、人の心を撲たずにはおかない、不思議な生き生きとした美しい満開の桜の情景を前に、逆に不安と憂鬱に駆られた「俺」は、桜の花が美しいのは樹の下に屍体が埋まっていて、その腐乱した液を桜の根が吸っているからだと想像する。
