The book is filled with wonderful characters that pulled me in deeper with every page turned It felt like Star Wars in the respect of having a strong feeling youre seeing one small piece of the universe

Action packed!

This book is full of action that keeps you coming back for more. I was hooked from the beginning. The narration is great too! I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

So, I really liked this book. The different alien races, the struggle of one believing they are superior, and therefore entitled to take over other worlds for their own gain. A lot of not so subtle subtext, I think haha. And it was well written, with a good flow and engaging characters.

However, the jumping back in time and back ahead got a little confusing at times, and could have been made more clear what was happening. Other than that, I have no real complaints with the story!

Now, for the narration. It just really wasn't my favorite thing. Sometimes he sounded like he was doing a Batman impression, which made me giggle, but also pulled me out of the story. Same with when he sounded like Mr Movie Announcer. He has a nice voice in general, but just not for this book.

Overall, I have to go with 3 Platypires.

Even better than book one

I had mixed feelings about the age of the hero after book one, and I still do to some extent, but that's resolving to some extent because of how well the books are written and how well Jason is coping with everything that's happening.

Speaking of happenings... there is a lot happening in this book, talk about big and complex, this story does not hold back. It's a trilling, grip the edge of your seat ride from beginning to end.

The characters are complex and the moral lessons within the story are compelling.

The narration is excellent, the character voices are great and the emotions of the characters and the story in general are conveyed.

Ho-Hum

Usually, the first book in a series is "okay", and the story/author grows stronger and better. In this case, the first book is the best of the three. I should have stopped after listening to the first one.

Ironically, I was offered credits for the second and third audiobooks and decided to pick up the first. So, it was no skin off my nose, just mediocre time fillers as I worked in my yard.

Jason's actions and thoughts seemed to flip flop; he didn't become a stronger, wiser, or better person. Well, he did, then he regressed, then he took a half step forward then slipped back four. It was very uneven and confusing. And disappointing.

Mr Callanan is a wonderful narrated and wasted his talent and time with this series.

Continuation - fun middle grade, fantasy adventure

This book continues the adventures, or in this case the misadventures of Jason Lex. Jasons father and sister, Della, flew to London to seek counseling help at the League of Governors. Jason has cause to be concerned when he and his Uncle Alexander cant reach his father by phone. They decide to follow to London to make sure everything is alright. They quickly learn that things are not all right.

Jason and his Uncle are attacked. When he awakes he is at the League and learns that Uncle Alexander is in a coma. A stranger sneaks him a secret message and Jason doesnt know who he can trust.

Moral Powerhouse!

The series continues to explore interesting parts of the world and explain phenomenon. This time the characters face moral dilemmas and learn to embrace the good in the world. Another entertaining ride!

Great follow-up to book #3. The development of the main character was intriguing. Love the plot twists. And the origin of the wind element was unexpected. Good life lessons throughout the text and interesting factual material that C W Trisef always includes in his novels. Looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

Exciting story!

Once again, my middle school aged son could not put this book down! He is so excited for the next book to be released!

Started out strange but got way better

I admit. It took me a while to get into this story. I stopped and started many times. After about the half way point, I started really getting into the story. The narrator did a wonderful job. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

A sci-fi remake of Dantes Inferno

Ash Wednesday and his crew constitute the Omega Team, a private enterprise hired by corporates as bounty hunters. After rescuing an android by a ship taken by pirates, they are assigned a new mission: finding Simon Haddo and taking him alive. There is an unproportionate bounty for this subject, and Ash fears that hunting him down will be more difficult than usual.

This book is a remake of Dantes Inferno, a poem written in the 14-century. I always like when the classics are rescued and transformed into sci-fi. I have grown up with Ulysses 31, and that may be part of why I like what I do nowadays.

In the prologue the author warns us about the fact that as this is based on and old poem it may not follow the modern structure we are used to in books. With that said, I did not feel that as a detriment of the whole story.

The atmosphere of this book reminded me a lot of shows like Firefly or Dark Matter, but this time our main characters were on the right side of the law. For the rest, it seemed quite similar. The crew was formed by seven people, which seemed a bit excessive for a book of this length. We got intros for all characters, but due to the length of the book there was little character developing and evolution. It is a pity, since this would have made it a 5-star book.

Ash and his crew have to go to Inferno Station, where they will have to tread across the different levels like Dante in the original. They find different challenges that make the advancement risky and difficult. I found a couple of these a bit confusing, so I think more accurate descriptions would have been a nice addition.

Persephone Roses narration was superb! Narrating a book with seven different characters, an android, and an AI, is not an easy task but Rose has managed to create a different voice and style for each of them. He also transmitted well the characters emotions and emphasized some parts where it was needed. Rose also used some sound effects to enrich the narration. The introduction and From the author had some background music. I do not find this essential but this is just a personal opinion. The only setback I found was two sentences repeated towards the end of the book (3:21:17 and 3:53:18).

Is Ok, Bob have cousin!

Well tickle me pink!! This was so not what I was expecting. Having never heard of this author before, I was hesitant to start, but it was intriguing enough that I agreed to review it. And I'm so glad I did, it was such fun! Don't let the cover fool you, this is a book with such heart and soul.

I'm not going to go into much detail about the plot because there is a lot packed into such a shortish read. There's aliens, there's chocolate, there's a watch maker, there's nearly an orgy in a mall, there's a girl, there's a reporter looking for a story,there's a seemingly never ending gas tank and then there's Bob!!

You would think that Bob is our protagonist, but he's not. Peter Anderson is, he's a reporter looking for a great story to revive his career. That's how he meets Bob, and that's how he is taken on an unforgettable story that will bring Peter back to his childhood. The plot was fairly fast paced and entertaining. It held my attention throughout and was enjoyable, and that's all thanks to Bob.

Bob was awesome!! He brought some much needed levity to the story and had me sniggering a lot. He is such a memorable character too!! I don't want to say too much about him either because since I went in to the book blind, I found I loved Bob, and I think everyone should go in blind!! All I'll say about him is... "Is Belt".... "Is Ok, Bob have Cousin"!!! Also his wiggling fingers ;) Lol.

In all, a truly surprising little gem!! It was such a fun and easy book to read and I will have to check out more from this author. Seriously, go try it,....is good!!

I was impressed with Jonathan Cook's narration. He had a lot of different tones and cadences and read the story well. He gave the right infection at the right time and made it enjoyable. He did a great Bob!! His Russian accent was really good, though it did fall a few times and the quality of the recording wasn't perfectly clear, which is why he got 4 stars! Still he brought the story to life and I enjoyed his performance overall.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

A fun listen!

This book wasn't what I was expecting at all! I thought it would be the typical alien invasion story. This book was so much more than that! There was never a dull moment in this book, and it was quite humorous at times. I couldn't help laughing out loud several times at Bob. Bob isn't even the main character of this book, but he's hilarious! Bob also has a lot of cousins lol. You'll understand when you listen.

Not Her best work but still worth reading

I'm a great fan of Andre Norton. This series is good, not great but pretty darn good. A coming of age and learning story of the free traders. Yep, it will read as clichéd today but it was new when written.

Trading ship encounters a plague at the fringes of explored space

This is a 2008 reprint of a 1956 Andre Norton science fiction novel. This classic Norton at the height of her story-telling powers.

The crew of a "Free Trader" starship encounters multiple difficulties while trading on a little-known planet whose humanoid inhabitants

trace their lineage to cats. Some of their major obstacles are from the crew of starship which belongs to a large trading conglomerate which

will seemingly stop a nothing to take over the trading contract on this world.

Good story.

Good story and well written. Enjoyed the adventure of the crew from alien world to ship to earth. Looking forward to the next book.

Norton was quite good at carrying characters from book to book and developing ...

Andre Norton does a masterful job of telling a story. In this case so much time was spent preparing the background that I began to wonder why the book was called Plague Ship. I have not read all of Andre Norton's books, and the many that I did read was probably 30 years ago. That said, this book strikes me as part of a series, which it in some respects I believe is. It's just not named that way as novels often are today. Ms. Norton was quite good at carrying characters from book to book and developing them along the way.

Resistance is not Futile

You've got to hand it to the Beeb, they know drama and how to produce it. Resistance is a quality production which highlights the very modern and contemporary issue of drug-resistant disease. The upside of a dramatization is its quick-moving and exciting pace plus the genuine acting that brings the story alive. Here the cast do a great job of it and the sound is well-mastered as the myriad backing sounds never drown out the voice acting.

The story centres around Zoe Meadows, a journalist at a music festival in the North East of England. During the festival a mysterious illness starts to affect those there and then spreads beyond to the bafflement of scientists who are also represented as well as politicians trying to deal with the situation. The strength of the whole thing is that it deals with this most contemporary threat to society highlighting how the profit motive of the modern pharmaceutical industry runs counter to the wellbeing of humanity. It challenges the listener to question our priorities as a race.

If there's a weakness it's that the short format never really gets into the detail of the issue or the characters and apart from the biological nature of the disease there is very much a "been done before" air about the storyline.

I was happy to spend a credit on this despite the short length. The quality acting makes it exciting enough to warrant that but possibly the well-worn storyline and lack of depth will fail to satisfy regular readers of the apocalyptic genre.

A great thought provoking story

Resistance is a great solid story, told well. Though I have just listened (yesterday) to John Drydens Pandemic which is also by the BBC (both 2hrs 11mins) and has a similar vein of World catastrophe/ Armageddon. Both are great listens, but I would suggest to opt for Pandemic as its a hidden gem.

It was easy to listen to but not very gripping and whilst the voice acting was quite bad for the "foreign" accents its worth a go if you have a spare few hours.

Great story and narrator, crappy production

The story was intriguing and kept me listening. Molly king was able to create distinctions between the characters, but production sucked. One could constantly hear paper rustling which was distracting. At times it appeared that editing screwed up because a mistake might be made, it was noticed, and instead of editing it out, they had clips of it in. There was a moment I thought there was something wrong with the audio file because it repeated the same sentence several times... and it did not appear to be part of the writing technique. Those flaws made it distracting, and it was disappointing because it seems like a mature mistakes.

Good Story Uneven Narration

This audiobook has a little bit of everything, part horror and science fiction, with a dab of mystery added in. I liked the premise of the story more than the actual follow through and Im not sure why. Trying to put my finger on the problem has been difficult. I found the story engaging at times and then it seemed to drift. I think it has more to do with the narrator than the writing.

Molly King narrates this fully voiced production. I found some of her character voices jarring and an uncomfortable listen. Other characters were voiced quite well and theres no doubt Molly has talent. Perhaps its a case of trying too hard to differentiate the characters, I just prefer a more subtle distinction.

I am curious to see where this story goes, but I think Ill read the book next go round.

Starburst was an intriguing story about seemingly random strangers who are brought together by Lisa for her mission to be advanced in the group of aliens who gave her the instructions. Well written and wonderful characters. I can't wait for the next book!

It is in the top tier of books. The genre and delivery are all in a stand alone category. Such a clever idea and the deep thought that has gone into each individual character really pays off. The listener gets such an insight into their minds and thought processes. How their experiences have shaped them.
