Writing a good story is difficult
With that in mind, I can't help but mention some problems with this story. It seems like nothing much unexpected happens, and this is rather a dry narration or a history more than a story.
The only character with any personality has an obsession with steak and that's literally the only quirk any of these characters have.
The author reuses and restates things the characters were thinking twice, almost always, and in exactly the same way. To the point where I literally was yelling at my stereo speakers saying 'I heard you the first time!'
The narrator could use some improvement in pacing for the story, emphasizing the situations in a voice that reflects the characters heightened emotions or tensions, maybe retake spots that were not well enunciated. He did okay over all, however. This wasn't a character driven story I reckon. Maybe it is just meant to set up the sequels? Things could get better.
Maybe instead of jumping forward in time with small situation updates to move the story, some time could be spent developing characters, introducing fewer important ones, giving them personality.
I must say that I kinda wish I'd gotten a different book. I hate being so harsh, but there it is. Maybe try the next one in the series.
    Where's the meat.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would spend a little more work on the time line. Sometimes a few hours would pass, and the next thing you know a month, six months, or five years have passed. I spent too much time trying to figure out how much time had passed.
Would you ever listen to anything by Raymond L. Weil again?
    Maybe
Have you listened to any of Nick J. Russos other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I would listen to another performance before I make a final decision on future performances.
Did Star One inspire you to do anything?
    Yes, choose my stories wisely.
    Any additional comments?
Overall I thought it was a ok story. I liked the main idea. But,It was lacking a lot of character development. The main evil character was talked about, however, you never really know who he is. I wanted to hear from that character. I wanted know he was more than a name. He did something terrible in the story, but you never what he did that was the final straw.. It's a secret between the two other characters in the story.

Great new title in YA fiction
What made the experience of listening to The Prey the most enjoyable?
Alternating chapters between the male and female protagonist give you an incredibly well-defined sense of this futuristic dystopian world as well as opens up the story to be understood from various perspectives and sentiments.
What did you like best about this story?
Book's journey with his fellow LTs (a modern day Lost Boys-esque group) is filled with angst towards the unfair hand they were dealt, determination to find a better world for themselves, a goodly amount of fear and the kind of camaraderie that only exists when an unlikely group of fellows are thrown together by circumstances beyond their control.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes - I listened to it all in two sittings, and really only put it down because I had to get to a meeting. Definitely keeps you captivated chapter to chapter.
    Any additional comments?
Fitting well into the current trend of futuristic dystopian YA novels, this book has all the teen drama of a Hunger Games or Divergent but is layered with deeper themes reminiscent of the tortures of the Holocaust and other callbacks to the darker places of humanity's history.
    Give me more!!
The narrators were top notch. The story had me from the beginning. Please tell me their will be a book 2.
    A Real Binge Book
Loved it! probably for a younger audience, but it still held my interest! This book had a strong start, conflict, and climax. I thought the ending was a little "Old Hollywood" and left me a little flat. But not so much that I wouldn't recommend this book. There was also some loose ends that I felt got tidied up too quickly at the end. Again, not enough to sour the book. the most memorable part was when both the Sisters and the Less Thans figure out their real roles in this post apocalypse world.
    GREAT LISTEN!!!
Highly recommend for any Maze Runner fans. Lots of action, heartache, and overcoming of odds. I was soon engaged in Hope and Book's story. Can't wait to read 2nd book.
Tugged on my emotions. Felt a little too possible.
Wow. I had to write something about this one. I've never done so much talking aloud to an audiobook. The characters are fully human. They defy expectations and, sadly - at times, manage to delve beneath the line of what we would deem acceptable human behavior.

    Publisher: Thorstruck Press
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 4 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Visited by an angel Theodoros is instructed to make the Gears of Uriel, which is passed from one generation to the next for more than five hundred years. This family are the guardians who protect it from the evil enveloping our world, casting Theodoros' life into mayhem. Following each of his descendants and the danger often accompanying the device, this is a spiritual quest, exposing how religion has often cloaked the truth from mankind, with risk of death to the keepers of truth - those heretics who speak up against an organization claiming to be God's mouthpiece and ultimate authority.
The spiritual conflict spans centuries, illustrating the nature of religious worship, from ancient times into the modern. No matter how much things change, they remain the same. Set in ancient Greece on the island of Antikythera, this is vivid, surreal, and a smorgasbord of antiquated ritual. Metaphysical historical fantasy has found a true home in this novel. Angels walk with men, the realm of gods has no boundary, and religious family feuds are the most misguided toxin of all. This is a profound tale which delivers a journey worthy of the saints.
    Members Reviews:
It's like going on a spiritual quest like no other.
Although this book is not the genre i normally read, I found it to be very compelling and hard to put down. The authors blend of mythological creatures spirituality and history made it a very interesting Quest. It was obvious the author really did a great deal of research to make this book come alive. As Jeff Blackmer's brother, I have read all of his books and each one has been an enjoyable read. This book however takes his writing in a new direction, one i am sure readers will find wanting more. It is amazing to me that Jeff Blackmer can take an object, place or people out of history and create a novel as mysterious and spiritual as this one. I highly recommend this book. I think it will inspire as well as entertain
    Great Story and Intriguing Themes
This is an excellent story woven with thought-provoking theological commentary throughout. After reading another of this authorâs books, Draegnstoen, I knew I would not be disappointed. This is a very different genre from the other book, but also looks to come from a very personal journey described by the authorâs note at the end of the book. To me, this gives the story even more depth and impact. Looking forward to future works from Jeffrey Blackmer.
Very interesting and compelling story. What was most interesting ...
Very interesting and compelling story. What was most interesting, however, were the author's insights regarding the origins of Christianity and organized religion. The first book I've finished in a while!
is a little like going on a spiritual journey
Reading The Gears of Uriel by Jeffrey Blackmer, is a little like going on a spiritual journey. We follow the unravelling of organised religion throughout history and are faced with what really matters â spirituality and the eternal strength of the human soul.
This book is exceedingly well-researched, but without bogging the reader down with tiring information. Itâs all woven into the body of the story and it works well, is written in a relaxed manner, and is not forced upon the reader.

What made the experience of listening to Dying Days 3 the most enjoyable?
The story is funny..but really sick...lol

Darlene and her bravery at the end!
Did Amanda M Lehman do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I just dont really care for this narrator...there are MANY MANY MANY much more talented narrators out there that would take this series to the next level....I am just saying...
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Moved me to think this world is pretty much F'd!!
    Any additional comments?
I have liked this series, and m moving on to book 4 now...It is really becoming terrifying for the group because these zombies are regenerating...and they can think again...and they are truly evil!! Not only are they still sex crazed maniacs they want to eat babies and stuff...its just really scary!!! Such a creative world is going on here and I dont know how it was thought up...but I am glad it was...pretty good series...I just wish Armand would have picked a better narrator!
    Epic Book 3

Yes the book is good and so is the Narrator. She does a great job.
What did you like best about this story?
Mr.Rosamilia Is an amazing writer. He has great stories, epic characters and in this book we got a unique point of view from Frank an evolving zombie
    Which scene was your favorite?
Darlene is such a tough cookie.Any scene with her is good
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes it is,
    Any additional comments?
In this book We meet Frank the zombie, ex-surgeon, the husband of "Patient Zero",an evolving Zombie and a unique POV.("Oh Crap!") Darleen & John finally get together. The small group of survivors start to notice, some very subtle changes with some of the undead. This small group of survivors are slowly dwindling, some are taking off on their own in the middle of the night and taking part of what little provisions are left with them when they go.More than one member of this small group of survivors are begging to question the validity in the desire to stay alive in a world where a safe haven is just a myth. Each day they must fight to stay alive. Supplies are few and each time they send a team out to search for food there is no certainty that they will return. They also believe there must be another group of survivors close, the number of infected out to kill them at every turn are decreasing and someone is piling up the carcases of the dead again on the highway.
Mr.Armand Rosamilia, has created a world that few could begin to imagine. The characters have great depth and personality. He describes this world in such detail you can see it clearly in your mind.
I went between the Ebook and Audiobook. Amanda M Lehman does a wonderful job with the voices and the story.

    What An Awesome Series!
I'm an avid reader and don't remember when I've enjoyed a storyline as much as this one and learned so much from it at the same time. It's hard to imagine such evil can exist. I have lived a much more sheltered life than I imagined. Don't miss out on the Eden series.
Book 3 a disappointment, very repetitious.
Not instructional like book 1. After book two I knew I was taking a chance but now I wish I didn't.

    Sir Francis Drake in Space!
This is a future-age retelling of some of the adventures of Sir Francis Drake, with some of the experiences of Hawkins thrown in. One engagement, partway through the book, in which Captain Ricimer and party barely escape with their lives, is based on the engagement at San Juan de Ulua in September of 1568, in which the carrack Jesus of Lubeck was captured by the Spaniards, and Hawkins, in a smaller and handier ship, barely got away. There are equivalents to the Spanish (the North American government) trying to dominate all the worlds, Portugal (the Southern Cross confederation, which was granted some of the planets, by the equivalent of the Vatican), the New World (the interstellar worlds all claimed by Pleyal (the equivalent of King Philip), the leader of North America, and his Southern Cross allies), enslaved Blacks (the alien Molts), the Native Americans (the Rabbits, regressed humans from lost colonies in the interstellar reaches), and the Pacific (the Mirror universe, reachable only through certain hazardous routes). When I first read these, I wondered if we might see (for example) Martian colonists fighting a revolution against the North Americans, and taking up the role here of the Dutch separatists (but I was disappointed there). Author Drake, a Vietnam veteran, spends some time mentioning the psychological toll the action and killing takes on the men. (Different men seem to handle it in different ways, some becoming desensitized to a dangerous level, while others are visited by the ghosts of their victims when they try to get some sleep in their rack at night. There was no term yet for PTSD in Sir Francis Drake's time, but even then, I imagine that fellow warriors appreciated there were incidents their friend, just returned from the wars, did not wish to discuss. I would think in the future, there would be some provision to care for psychological casualties, but perhaps counseling was one of those things which became less popular when the previous human civilization collapsed?) While the story is derivative, it still remains interesting. (Of course, your mileage may vary -- I'm an SCA member and interested in the exploits of the English Sea Dogs, the Dutch War of Independence, the Spanish Armada, etc.) By the way, for the Spanish Armada (or its equivalent in this series), check the next book in the series, "Fireships".
    Wonderful
I read the second and third books in this series first and just got around to this one. It's a great opening to a wonderful trilogy.
    Elizabethan Privateers In Spaceships
This is the second book in the Reaches series. This book deals with Piet Ricimer and Stephen Gregg's supposed mission to the asteroid belt that really is a pirate raid through the breach. The breach is a dangerous passage through the Mirror, a block between our universe and another. The other side holds the treasures of the defunct empire, automated factories churning out the chips that hold civilization together. Gentlemen and aristocracy are the linchpins of the society on Venus.

Great to read, awesome to listen to!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Yankee Must Die: Huaka'i Po to be better than the print version?
I like them both. I wouldn't consider one better than the other. They're both AWESOME!
What other book might you compare The Yankee Must Die: Huaka'i Po to and why?
I would compare it to the old pulp serials...the cliffhanger alone will take your breath away...
What about Patrick R. Goldens performance did you like?
What a voice... all the accents. He's exactly what I thought Tom would sound like. I would love to hear more books (especially the next two in the series) read by Mr. Golden!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Well written and well voiced... Everything I hoped it would be.
    Any additional comments?
I loved Huaka'i Po just in print, but this reading brings a whole new dimension to it. You will not regret getting this one!

    Good story
This was an interesting take on a zombie apocalypse. Listening to the book from the main character's point of view, before and after turning. Her thoughts and feelings throughout, her memories. Its a great listen.
I was provided an audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review via audiobook blast dot com.
    Interesting Zombie Outlook!

Literary and Gruesome - Great Combo
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this to a friend if they liked this type of book. They have to be ready for some gore. But able to appreciate the slow, literary pace.
What other book might you compare The End to and why?
I would kind of compare it to Cormac McCarthy's The Road - not in length of depth, but in the subject of the doomed travel in a ruined world.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
    Not talk quite. so. slowly.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When I realized where the MC had been headed all along.
    Any additional comments?
This is an odd combination of gruesome detail and literary writing. I have always wanted to read a book from the zombie's point of view, and I was really able to paint the MC's thoughts onto any one of the walkers in The Walking Dead. It will make me look at the show differently, I think. The ending was amazing. This is not for people who want fast, action-packed zombie stories. But it is thoughtful and did I mention the ending is amazing? And a little terrifying.
    Becoming different!
This was a really good story and a much different take on the zombie apocalypse. This story is in a female by the name of Zoe's POV. I liked that author Adam M. Booth gives the story to us in a zombies POV and a female zombie at that. The author didn't disappoint me.
