    Amazing
I really enjoyed this series and can't wait for more. I loved April and Rye's Story an how she finds her friend after so long. it makes you wonder if this will actually happen. And if it does would we survive.. I love how Alexia brought all the different parts of Vegas together old and new. I truly enjoyed reading the series.
    Action packed!
Would you listen to Amplified again? Why?
Yes, because I love the drama that the narrator puts into the story. And, the story itself is good.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Elijah. He's strong and doesn't let things get to him. Very level headed but, knows when to step up and help.
What about Anne Marie Susan Silveys performance did you like?
I loved everything! She's an amazing narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Well, sure...and get angry/irritated. I'm always an emotional reader.
Hands down one of my favorite authors and series!!!
Wow! I've read the book twice and didn't think I could love it anymore. but listening to it takes it to a whole new level. Amplified lives up to its name. It's a wild ride right from the start and will keep you up late in to the night. I love this author, this series and book 3 does not disappoint. I love the strength of the friendships and seeing the humanity in April come out as she struggles to adapt to this new life. It keeps you guessing with the unexpected twist and turns and I love the way the book ends. 5 stars in my book! Bring on book 4 and bring on the movie!!

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 50 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
Freedom left unchallenged is an undervalued asset.
It's been 25 years since the Earthlings were resuscitated and Brandon Foss's unique set of skills became the deciding factor in Tora's first interstellar war. A second-generation of Torian humans is now in young adulthood, including Derek's thrill-seeking son Jumper - whose insatiable thirst for adventure often entangles him and his friends in the darker shenanigans of their home world's fallen culture.
Amulen society has been decimated due to widespread addiction to the alien game polwar. Derek and his family stubbornly remain on Amulen despite the continually deteriorating conditions. When a new, suspiciously power-hungry leader makes progress in re-uniting Amulen through the very thing that destroyed it, Brandon shows up and gets the kids involved in reconnaissance work.
But an uninvited guest also arrives. The Torian military is provoked into action, tested to extremes, and forced to discover who their friends really are....
Extat, let's just encapsulate this thing. Here's what you get:
That's what you wanted, right? We got you covered.

A Great Sequel to an Excellent First Book
I though that the sequel followed quite naturally from the first book. Although it takes place 25 years after the first book ended, it explores the same themes of politics, morality, and racism (although in this case, its bias against of other types of aliens, not against people of different race). It also looks at Tora after the division of its two worlds. We get to re-enter the world of Brandon, and learn about the new generation of earthlings. Another exciting read, with thrilling space battles!
The bonds built between species could really teach a lesson to kids today.
The bonds built between species could really teach a lesson to kids today. Also the addiction issues to technology. This is a great stand alone scyfi book however I recommend reading both.
The themes of politics, addiction, classism, continued to draw me in. I actually read most of the second book in a single day because I didn't want to put it down. I really enjoyed the battle scenes and painted a pretty rad picture in my head during them.
(spoiler-ish) I hope that one day he writes a third book about the rebuilding of Amulen.
So pour yourself a glass of Redflower-20 and sink into this great read.
    Fun sequel!
Andy Kasch's sequel to his high energy packed sci fi novel, Test of Magnitude, is extremely fun and interesting for another point of view. You feel yourself growing up with the main character, who is braver than I am for sure. Andy Kasch manages to create a world so beyond any imagination and paint it so clearly. Great work, highly entertaining and a great follow up to the precedent novel!
    Another winner
This sequel starts 25 years after the first book. And I'm glad it did! We get to see how the humans have adapted, how Brandon has grown, and how the newer, younger generation of humans see life. Even the previous conflicts have evolved, and not all for the better. Let me just tell you this, if you liked the first book, you'll definitely like this one!
    Well written Space Masterpiece
Kasch's writing draws you right into the drama of the storyline. He has an unparalleled flair for detail that develops the characters in a way that you feel like you know them closely.

After her funeral, Jim travels to northern Michigan to decompress and deal with his feelings in a rustic log cabin owned by his deceased girlfriend's family.

Now the infected roam the world, and even in northern Michigan, Jim isn't safe. He eagerly awaits Janie's family to join him; they are preppers, who may be the key to his survival, and they are the only family he has left.
In a world of the infected, can he carve out a slice of safety and sanity?

    "Zombies" Versus Preppers
Pretty simplistic short book... my prepper brother will probably like... Mr. Craven likes tossing in a few too many rude words, his male, female relationships are ridiculous and the poor female characters... but his prepper cabin is nicely organized.
Narrator is horrible, very hard to follow story.
Story was alright but I couldn't get into it as the narrator had such a monotone voice. I would've returned if I was able. I never bother to post reviews but this was terrible.

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Where did mankind really come from? Why are we here? We can't understand the past until we embrace the future. These critical mysteries take center stage as Earth emerges into a galactic society that is far more perilous than anyone could have imagined. Our history is far more complicated than we could have known. Can a few brilliant minds find a way out for Earth?
One saving grace is that there are those who believe ancient clues foretell that Earth has a destiny, and if we can survive our present difficulties, we might just find out what that destiny is....
Dr. Mark Spencer was a young, up-and-coming history and anthropology professor who was all too familiar with what happens to less advanced civilizations when suddenly exposed to others of considerably higher technology. There's only one survivor, and the culture witnessing magic isn't it. When modern-day Earth suddenly finds itself on the losing end of that proposition, a team of the world's best scientists is put together to find a solution. Of course the advanced society being friendly, Earth's citizens uniting, and the world's politicians working together for the common good would help tremendously, but...what if none of that were true?
    Members Reviews:
generally entertaining, though confusing at times
The international space station is suddenly and inexplicably transported from earth orbit to the outer solar system. All the astronauts aboard die. A group of nearly human aliens arrive to explain it was their rivals who did it. Join us, so we can protect you from them. They insist. Earth quickly gathers its strongest and brightest on a journey with our new alien friends out into the far reaches of the galaxy. Purpose unknown. Things arent always as they seem, however. It is unclear who is friend and who is foe, not only among the aliens, but among the Earthers.
We learn about the aliens and how Earthers are closely related in genetic origin. Our genes were manipulated thousands of years ago, against galactic rules. A complex play of alien morality and motivations are at work, with Earth as the prize. The transported Earthers must learn who to trust and then move quickly against overwhelming technology and odds with little information.
There are several main characters that the author switches at each chapter, each presenting his or her story from a first person perspective. As an audiobook, this sometimes gets confusing. Though you are told who is speaking at each chapter change, the voice and perspective can be similar and you might lose perspective if you dont listen carefully. You may catch yourself asking, whos this again? Not a fatal flaw, just probably more effective in reading, rather than in audio.
There is a great deal of political science discussion between human and alien. Most of it is quite interesting and important to the story; but be warned, there isnt a lot of action or suspense until you are two thirds of the way into the book. Sexual tension pervades most of the inner thoughts of three of the main characters, a kind of lust triangle. One man wants to shtup every female with a pulse (human or alien), one wants to find a woman like dear old mom, and finally the girl who is attracted to the bad boy, but doesnt want to get hurt.

Almost finished it in one go! Riveting!
This is the best Alex Verus yet. Quite a few things that have been hinted at in previous books are coming getting explained. Splendid book!
    Book 4
Great as usual although a lot darker than the last books. you get to know more about Alex's history.
sets you up for the next book :)
    Another great read
I have enjoyed this series so far but not comfortable with the Tobruk situation.
Did we have to have the level of torture towards Rachel?
Tried to be diplomatic with my words.

    Keep getting better!
Really enjoyed this one. With every story you learn more about the characters history and the reasons that make them "who they are"
Great narration and good plot to keep it all together
He doesn't do women's voices well
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, Jacka is a good story teller, even if the books could do with tighter editing. There were many times I sat in the car outside the house not wanting to turn it off.He tends to use the same sentence constructs over again which is OK when reading the books, but jars when it is narrated.
    Any additional comments?
Gildart Jackson does not do the women's voices well. He makes them sound all breathy, and permanently petrified which jars with their actions. Not enough to put me off altogether though!
Am loving this series of book
Excellent characters, enjoyable stories and this is a great example. The narration is perfectly suited to the type and style of book as well. Am alreadt recommending this series to others.
    Hooked
What did you like most about Taken?
I like the way that it just drags you into its world, you feel that you are part of Alex's world and become friends with all of his friends and just want to learn more.
If youve listened to books by Benedict Jacka before, how does this one compare?
I have previously listened to one prior to this book and will indeed be buying more.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Nothing, his voice perfectly matched these books
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I howled with laughter, these books are full of humour
    Any additional comments?
A work in progress, trying to read them all.
    Brilliant
I think this series is great. The narrator has grown on me and I really enjoy his performance

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING!!!!
Would you try another book from Lisa Medley and/or Anne Davidson?
    Not from this series
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Anne Davidson?
She didn't have any vocal difference between the characters she was just reading...
What character would you cut from Reap & Repent?
Honestly I don't think anyone should be cut, maybe give the characters more edge or strength. When book has a story line where a character should obviously be asking more questions about her new situation. but keeps saying "Ill ask him later" she just runs around trusting strangers and not asking anything or wanting any answers is so annoying!
    Fun read
Enjoyable read. I bought this book by accident and decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the interactions between the hero and heroine. The story line was unusual and kept me engaged. Fun read.
