This is One of the Best Series I've Read in a While! Read the Former Novels First to Fully Appreciate This One!

This is book four in the sensational Anna Fehrbach series and although this could be enjoyed as a stand alone thriller to really appreciate what Anna does in this novel you really need to know what she has been through in the past three novels.Angel from Hellthe initial adventure is the book you really need to begin what will be one of the best reading journeys you ever partake in.

Timeline for this instalment is five years from when her family was first taken hostage by the Reich. It is late in 1943 when this story begins, for those familiar with the events of World War II this novel's pages time wise take place just before the Hamburg bombings and end in the early months of Normandy invasion so we can be assured there's still a few more books to go.

In this adventure Anna is assigned to journey to Switzerland with various valuable items stolen from those sent to concentration camps as Himmler is making sure he will be set up nicely if Germany is to lose the war. Her contact to Britain dressmaker Bartoli is proving more and more incompetent and Anna no longer trusts him or his wife meaning she is having severe difficulty communicating with the Allies. Meanwhile a plot to get rid of Hitler by those hungry for power within the Reich seems to be dragging Anna in and in turn she has to do unspeakable acts with Hitler to get close to him.

Read this series which has one of the best female characters ever written.

Sloppy

I have always been a great fan of Fyfield and amazed of her twisted stories and deep psychological insights. She stands out for me because she leads you to places where you would never think to end when you start her books. After such a long pause since her last books, I was thus thrilled to see, that new one are coming out. However, I felt more and more disappointed and even a certain unease because of the sloppiness of this one. So many sentences that want to hook you up with unsaid things. Which could be interesting, but here it is not, you are left with the impression, that the author just forgot that thread or is advertising for her next book. All this turning round and round about art and hair and clothes. Especially about art : the statements SEEM intelligent and profound at first view, but are simply not (" paintings in oil always hypnotised", what kind of nonsense is that?). Or the ridiculous romanticised way these people work with paintings. Being in the business for 24 years, I have never read something so silly. It might be the same with the clothes and hair, but I don't know about these.

And in the end, we get a glimpse for a whole pile of future books about a gang liberating art "dying" in basements (PLEASE DON'T). Has this woman ever heard about temporary exhibitions, temporary and permanent loans? Has she ever been in the storage of a museum to see all the uninspired and uninspiring stuff stuck there?

Pulls No Punches

Lately I've been reading mysteries that delve into the paranormal. Tana French's `In the Woods' brings the reader to the doorstep of something unimaginable. Gloria Galloway's `Dead By My Side' paired a cop with his dead partner, and LGC Smith's `Master of My Surrender' took the naked leap into the para-naughty. I blushed more than once.

`Spirit of Consequence' pairs a suicidal cop with a sexy ghost intent on rehabilitating him. This book could easily have wandered into the world of the cozy, but it didn't. Peggy Dulle takes the action where the action leads. Scary, sexy, suspenseful, the story is tightly woven, and I liked the characters more than I wanted to. Best of all, I never saw it coming. This book was a lot of fun!

Refreshingly Different

"Spirit of Consequence" is spellbinding. As soon as you think you've figured it out the story takes another turn. From the very beginning you are drawn in and you can't put the book down. I'm usually not drawn to books dealing with the "supernatural" but this is refreshingly different! An excellent read.

I enjoyed this book. Sam became a little annoying at the end, but I would read again.

This was an enjoyable read. The characters are developing and seem like real people. The story has an easy going pace that keeps you drawn into the story. This is a great series and I look forward to reading the next book.

Unique and chilling medical thriller

The phrase spine tingling takes on a whole new meaning in Allen Wyler's latest thriller, Dead Head. Wyler's fast-paced story spans the country and thrusts NIH research neurosurgeon Russell Lawton into a desperate battle against time, terrorists and the Feds to save his young daughter, Angela. No less desperate is a cell of Middle Eastern extremists, who threaten to bury the child alive. The leader of the cell, a ruthless former battlefield surgeon, forces Russell to use his strictly theoretical research in brain-body synthesis in a frantic attempt to keep his gravely wounded comrade alive long enough to complete his deadly assignment.

Closing in from the other side is savvy FBI Special Agent Sandra Phillips. Brought into what appears to be a parental custody dispute between Russell and his former wife, the agent soon realizes that something much larger and far more sinister is going on.

In less skilled hands this chilling "what if" story could have easily fallen flat, but Wyler, himself a neurosurgeon, takes an utterly unfathomable concept and makes it completely feasible. The story had me not wanting to put the kindle down yet not wanting it to end. looking forward to more of the same!

Hooked on this author now

A good read. Right up there with the other fun authors who write these books,....Woods, Patterson, etc.

I did not want to put it down.

Silly and careless errors crushed my interest.

I must admit, I am turned off to books that make factual errors and have fanciful contrived plot devices to set up situations. No argument about the medical issues; they seem plausible. At the very beginning, he is kidnapped at gunpoint and then the terrorists use their possession of his child to force him into doing something. In the process they shoot a policeman - needlessly. If they really wanted the doctor to get in the car, the woman 'interviewing' him could have explained that the child was being held captive and used that as an incentive rather than hold a gun on him on a busy street.

Second, as they drive away, the Dr. sees Castro Street and this brings back memories. Castro St is a memorable place but it doesn't come anywhere near the Moscone Center or Route 101 (which is actually called either Van Ness or Lombard, depending on where you are - and no one calls it Rt 101.)

Last, they drive over the bridge into Marin County and to an airport in Navato.

A Must Read for North Carolinians of the Vietnam War Era

An Act Of War was exciting and invigorating. The descriptions were so precise I could feel the water flowing over me as well as the perspiration coming off my body. The story is very well laid out with characters that are most believable.The chapters were well organized by not having the reader read over one, two or more chapters to get from the next cliff hanging event to another. Also, within the chapters, the story line played out very well with different characters playing out roles simultaneously. The conclusion was a bit coincidental but heart warming. I enjoyed it and recommend it highly to any North Carolinian, especially any one who lived in the Vietnam era.I look forward to reading "Saving Hope".

Realistic and Exciting - a plot with some twists

This book is exciting and fast paced. The author makes the reader feel present in the rural setting in North Carolina and the jungles of Vietnam. McMahan's first hand experience comes through in an authentic sounding narrative. The reader can almost feel the humidity of the jungle and smell the small arms propellant hanging in the air after a firefight.

Looking forward to reading the next story . . .

Wonderful Read!

Outstanding book! Very well written; characters come to life and I felt like I was there with them. I started reading one morning while on vacation and couldn't put the book down - finished by the end of the day. A couple days later, still in my mind and thinking of the characters as real people.

A "must read" for anyone who enjoys suspense packed novels

I highly recommend this book. It is almost impossible to avoid reading the entire book in a single sitting.

I often like witch books, but this one in particular just wasnt for me, it just didnt feel put together enough, and though it was meant to be a mystery, I knew the result from nearly the beginning.

What could Tony Ruggiero have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The story itself, though not completely bad, also seemed to be a bit off. There were unnecessary scenes and boring conversations that I found myself wanting to skip over, and there wasnt much dialogue outside that which the speaker had internally.

What didnt you like about Lisa Cordrays performance?

The narrator, Lisa Cordray though great at the beginning, begins to make the story feel sort of choppy and extremely slow. There seem to be unnecessary pauses and stops mid-sentence that slowly began to grate on me the further I delved into the world. Her various character voices also seem a little off.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I had high hopes for Coven. I havent read a witch book in a while and I was excited about getting started. This one though, was unlike any other I have read. At the end though, I was a bit disappointed

Told in multiple POVs, we begin following Bob, a regular human who purchases an antique store after its prior owner dies in a vehicular manslaughter accident, an interesting fact considering he accidentally hit a drunk pedestrian many years ago, though the two pedestrians are not connected. The store he purchases is in a strange little town that has secrets of its own. He soon learns that sometimes, things are too good to be true, because its not a coincidence that he arrives. This town is full of magic, and everyone is connected in some way. This is a dark story, aimed toward someone who enjoys mysteries with supernatural elements.

Coven is the story of witches, some of who walk the correct path, and others who do not, and their interactions. I give it 2 stars.

What did you love best about Coven?

The portrayal of the small innocent town run by a Coven of witches was engaging. I wanted the hero to succeed but I was worried. The ending could have gone a few ways.
