Don't waste your time

I hated this book. All the crap about defining morality. The "work." The pretentiousness of it all. I have nothing good to say. Hated ALL of the characters, hated the story itself, hated the writing style...

This was popular in Germany? That makes me think less of Germans.

pretty good

As a fan of the show "Justified," I enjoyed very well certain parts but got somewhat less excited by other parts, even though it was still enjoyable. This was a quick read. It is a good book to read while traveling. People should remember than none of this book is in Harlan but it is still pretty enjoyable and feels like a glimpse into Raylan's life before returning to Kentucky, but with children.

After enjoying several other bumblings books of Boegner in this series, this book seems to have taken a wrong turn of argumentative and disconnected babel. Preachy, indeed.

simon bognor is a "sir" now.

didn't like this one, gave up after 2 hours, partly due to the story itself and partly to the performer, tim bruce. there were places where it was supposed to be funny but he couldn't pull it off like john lee.

I was undecided about buying this book, now wished I hadn't.

CLEVER, PACEY MURDER MYSTERY

Would you consider the audio edition of After the Silence to be better than the print version?

Can't really comment on that as I haven't read the print version, but the audible version was great!

What was one of the most memorable moments of After the Silence?

For me it was towards the end when all of the little sub-plots and bits and pieces started to come together and fall into place

Which character as performed by Daniel Weyman was your favourite?

The lead character, Rykel, was my favourite, decent, hardworking and doesn't always stick to the rules....

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when they found out that the murdered detective had been abused himself by the villains in this story

Wasn't sure how I felt about this when I first started listening, but the pace and enjoyment increased the more I got into it...I look forward to the second instalment.

Intelligent page turner

Loved the fast but free flowing story, excellent description of characters events and surroundings. Recomend this title to lovers of Scandi noir as enthralling as the Millenium trillogy. I reread this several times without getting bored as the story dealt with several difficult issues expertly. I loved it. Hopefully the rest of this series comes out in audio too and soon

Boring

I didn't understand the story and found it confusing, the narrator didn't help much. I always rely on the rating when choosing my books but I guess this isn't the best way to ensure a good listen.

Didn't get this story

I'm afraid I struggled with this book understanding the actual story line . I kept with it because I love Annie aldington . But as a story I didn't enjoy nor get .

Excellent again....

Don't be put off by the different narrator (from the first in this series on audible) as you soon get used to the different voice and obviously, the characters and their quirks remain the same.

This story is, at times, a little hard to keep up with, but was thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless and I especially loved the continuation from 'The Detective's daughter' and how Terry's name was kept alive. Stella and Jack almost feel like real people now....

I think I will miss this audible book as it has been my companion Over the last 10 days! Looking forward to the next now and seeing how things progress. Would recommend to anyone who likes a crime/detective novel with a good twist !

What did you like best about The Mists of Adriana? What did you like least?

Started this book on the kindle. Liked the writing. Liked the story. Seemed kind of Noir. Tried the audible sample and thought the reader was not bad but as the book progressed he just did not fit. Made the book seem like chick lit read by a man.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It worked and I liked it, but again my mind I was putting the story in back and white and changing the reading..

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The reading was too perky. To fast. To loud.

Could you see The Mists of Adriana being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Film Noir actor types. Dick Powell and Collene Gray. Today"s stars I have no ideas. Have to find unknowns.

I will read the second book. Wish I had read this one. I have read, instead of listening, to certain books. Because of my experience with this book I will read the new Greg Isles book Natchez Burning. I could not last the 5 minutes of the sample.

If it's Elmore Leonard it's going to be good. Good rule of thumb.

Not One of His Best

Leonard is an amazing writer. Funny, intriguing and outlandish most of his books are without comparison. This book left me unimpressed and irritated. I did not care about the characters. Too much book for not enough enjoyable plot. That being said, I miss him and hopes he entertains heaven as much as he has all of us.

I thought I'd read all of Elmore Leonard's novels, but Cat Chaser is a new one for me.I'm about a third of the way though, and it has been a real struggle.A few of his books have been too light or even silly, but I've never come on one that it's been difficult to finish. I'll keep going though since this is Elmore Leonard, and maybe it will get better

Dolores Gordon-Smith has chosen the birth of the recording industry as the background to this mystery featuring the gorgeous (well in my mind anyway) Jack Haldean. As in her previous books she take us back to the golden age of the gentleman detective when murder and mayhem is politely dealt with! The narration by Jonathan Sackville is excellent.
