    Imaginary fanciful Disney type romance
Firstly, let me say this is a 'fantastical' romance - there are Mages, spells, mythical lands and strange sensations when people are in danger. However, it's a thoroughly enjoyable listen with likeable characters, a good plot that has a few twists but does not contain anything 'hot and heavy' (if you catch my meaning!), it's a harmless easy-listen romp. I could pick a few holes in the story but you have to remember it's pure Disney.
Worth the credit? If you enjoy the above type books then it would be a yes but if you want a more hot historical type of plot (as I thought this was) then it would be a no.

"London, 1841. There I was, retired from time pirating, enjoying a full if somewhat conventional life as a wife and mother. Then a chance encounter with a stranger drew me back into a world I'd thought I'd left, quite literally, in the past. From his odd behavior and even odder answers to my questions, I knew Phineas Grubb was up to something. I should have trusted my instinctsbefore he pulled out a time-travel mechanism and dragged my brother, Bacon, back with him....
"Salem, 1698. The infamous Witch Trials may have ended a few years earlier, but the people of Salem are still pretty touchy about outsiders that appear in town as if by magic. Thanks to Grubb, my brother's been accused of witchcraft and thrown in jail. Now it's up to me and my husband, Dev, to save Bacon's bacon before the hysteria starts up again, and the course of history is altered forever."

    What A Gem!!!
I loved the first in the series, Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale. If you haven't read it you should it's awesome! As an aside, you don't HAVE to read the first one in order to read this one, but I don't know why you wouldn't? It's fast paced fun with a heroine who makes you turn the page. Anyway, here's my spin on this one:
    London, 1841
Retired from time pirating, Stormy is enjoying a full if somewhat conventional life as a wife and mother until a chance encounter with a stranger, Phineas Grubb, pulls her back into a world she'd thought she'd never visit again. But visit she must because this scheming interloper has his own time-travel mechanism and uses it to drag her brother, Bacon, back with him... Their destination? Salem, 1698
Sure, the Witch Trials may be over, but the people of Salem are still kind of jumpy about newcomers who literally pop into their town. So, it's little wonder Stormy's brother is accused of witchcraft and thrown in jail. Now she and her gorgeous husband Dev, have to virtually save Bacon's bacon before the trial is set, and the course of history is altered forever...
As with her previous work, Ms. Bell, has a cast of characters that leap off the page. The banter between Stormy and Dev had me grinning like a fool and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. The vivid pictures Bell manages to create with words, affords the reader the opportunity to sink into the story and get-up close with her characters to join them on their journey. I had a great ride with this read and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fast paced, fun and well written romance with just enough plot twists to keep you totally entertained. From cover-to-cover I loved it!
    Fun and quick
I read this story before it ever met the publisher and feel in love with Christine Bell, her voice, style and all her characters. This is a fun steampunk about two orphans who find their way in a world of uncertainties in the most amusing way.
    Great author, great storylines!
Love this author and her Stormy Gale stories. Always exciting and entertaining.
Missed the romantic element, loved being back in this world!
One of my favorite reads last year was Christine Bell's THE TWISTED TALE OF STORMY GALE. In one short story she managed to create a luminous, exciting world of steampunk-ish time travel that was romantic and fun. The only part I disliked was that it had to end.

    Enjoyable!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes it was entertaining. Good series as a whole. Didn't feel like I was reading porn. Major Good vs Evil Conflict with different baddies in the series. Mystery to solve, Romance. Interesting take on Angels/Demons..although the Angels seem worse than the Demons???????
What does Renée Raudman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I love Renee Raudman. She brings everything to life and is good at differentiating between characters. The only thing that was a little off to me was Sidney. The accent seemed to come and go...and sometimes it sounded like Aunt Bea. I had just listened to Ilona Andrews "Magic Rises." before I started this series. I was still sad that Aunt Bea had died. And suddenly I am thinking..wow Aunt Bea didn't die....she is going to offer them some baked goods...wait a minute..what is Aunt Bea doing as the love interest for Alyce...oops wrong book. So I kept picturing her love interest as a middle aged, female, Bouda... I don't know...it may have just been me. But I would let some time pass before I listen to this particular book after listening to the Ilona Andrews series or listen to this series first.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When his father told Simon he was proud.
    Any additional comments?
I like the fact that all of the characters are SO different and the females don't follow a cookie cutter pattern. I like the fact that they aren't doormats or perfect. I also think that the life of Alyce before she met Simon could make a really creepy ring-like movie..with the waif in white sneaking up to kick some phantom but and then vanishing...really creepy...
Audible makes this series even better
This is the fourth book in this series.

What did you like best about this story?
    The shortness
Did Shelby Lewis do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Not really. Her voice somewhat changed in between but it was hard to tell between a few characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    The ending was lovely.
    Sweet curve ball
Tender, quick audio book if you are in to romance and storytelling.
I love the fantasy edge to it but its not to overwhelming.
    A lovely tale
If you could sum up A Merman's Kiss in three words, what would they be?
    Romantic, understated, interesting
Who was your favorite character and why?
Leatra. She is the best example of a well-rounded character in this story, as the others are more two-dimensional.
What about Shelby Lewiss performance did you like?
She was very easy to listen to, and her voice characterization was successful.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was a very easy listen.
    Any additional comments?
Definite commendation for people who want a chaste, romantic story - it is about feelings and connections, rather than sexual gymnastics.

Isole isn't used to dark and dangerous types - at least, not this way. Usually she freezes them cold, literally. That's her superpower: ice. But Mordi has a way of making her lose her cool. With his dark hair and sweet green eyes, it's tough to remember that his father's the superest villain in all the world. Or, was. The pair joined in countless evil plots before now, but Mordi and Hieronymous are turning over a new leaf. They joined the Protectors to defend the innocent - and to give themselves a chance at happiness.
Thank the gods. Mordi makes her burn with desire, and nothing Isole can do will put out the flames.

    Fun, easy read.
I really like Julie Kenner. Her superhero series is entertaining and not overly complicated. If you want something relaxing, that reads quickly this book will work for you. You don't need to read the other books in the series to enjoy this one but it definitely helps so that you can better understand the difficult relationship between Mordi and his father. And even though I've given this book a good rating, I honestly wouldn't pay too much for it. I got this for 99Â and that was great. What is totally worth the money is Kenner's Shadow Keepers series that she writes as J.K. Beck. Now that series is sexy and exciting!
    Good Read
Good book, wraps up the series nicely, wish there was a load more in the series though.... it's got such potential for future stories! The author's style is very easy to read and I've really enjoyed the whole series. It's great to finally find out about Mordi and the ending was definitely worth the wait.
Thank You Julie for Continuing the Magic
I love the idea of this series: Protectors among us, undercover as mortals. Julie Kenner has a wonderful sense of humor and her characters are very likeable. Even Mordi, who I loved to hate in previous books, I came to love in this book. It was easy to identify with Izzy and her claustraphobia and on the job dilemas.
I highly recommend this book, but if you haven't read the others in the series, don't start here. It would spoil the others, and after reading this, you would definitely want to read the others!
    Really good
It was pretty good. I like that style of writing. The good guys win in the end every time. Good
    Fun read
Not as much fun as the other books in the series, but worth a read! Good way to end the story.

    Nice smooth read
I like the series, and this book was fun. Its definitely different. As an avid reader, I hadn't come across a story like this one. So I was pleasantly surprised.
    Awesome book
I liked the whole premise of protector mortal and how they worked together. The Romance aspect was what I liked as well.
    Superheroes or demi-gods?
Jason Murphy has screwed his life up, big time. The day he found out who his father is, his girl friend told him she was pregnant. And he really did not deal with the as he should have. He wanted to confront his father and bring him before the Council of Protectors, but instead, he was captured and held prisoner in his dolphin form for 6 years. An earthquake helped him escape his fatherâs secret island lair.
The next year he spend under suspicion on Olympus, being interrogated as they suspected him from working with his father, instead of against him. So now his son is almost 7 years old, and he will come into his superpowers on his 7th birthday. Jason never told his girlfriend Lane about himself, and being a Protector, but he is now tasked with taking his son to superhero boarding school, where he can be taught to control his powers and develop them.
Only, his father is also after his son, and wants to steal his genius. So not only does he have to protect his son, he has to reunite with Lane again. A Lane who has moved on, who doesnât trust him anymore and certainly does not believe him â
But Lane has learned about the secret world of Protectors thanks to her friends and their family. So she knows who Hieronymus is and is desperate when Davy gets kidnapped. Especially when the kidnapper takes Jasonâs shape and Zo has temporarily lost her own superpowers due to her pregnancy. Otherwise, she would have seen right through the disguise and seen Mordi underneath.
This was not have Jason has envisioned his reunion with Lane. He has to get his son back, while he is under suspicion from the other Protectors, and he has to get Laneâs trust back. He has to protect them!
Lane wants Jason to put her and their son first, and not his quest for revenge on his father. Can he do that?
I enjoyed this story very much. Jason really screwed up by disappearing without a word for 7 years. Could he not have contacted Lane from Olympus when he was finally free again?
Davy is a young genius and he has invented some very cool things, that help him escape on his own from Hieronymusâ prison. Elmer the ferret is a great side character in this book as well.

A good first in a series!
I enjoyed this story. The plot jumped around a great deal, with name changes, secrets emerging, and the lead female seemed more lost than I was. It did level out at times and all was revealed in the end. There are some really well-developed characters to be enjoyed! Happy reading!
    Lackluster
I kept on reading, waiting for the book to get better. The love scenes - there are only 2, we're blah. The hero was weak even though krinard kept saying he was strong. I really was not invested in any of the characters. Babette was my favorite. This was a waste of my 3 hours that will never be recovered.
Not up to Susan Krinards usual standards.
I have read this book off and on for a few weeks, not that I am a slow reader, but because the plot is so contrived. The characters are shallow and lack much definition.
    Luck of the Wolf
I love all the "wolf" series by Susan Krinard. For any of those who love paranormal romance books, these are all winners. Highly recommend.
Interesting plot, just a tad confusing
Luck of the Wolf had a decent enough beginning introducing us to a female werewolf, Aria di Reinardus. Upon the death of Aria's guardian, Frantz, she finds herself alone, very, very, naive and the prize in a poker game. The man that wins her in that game is Cortland Renier. He's attracted to Aria. She is faking to have amnesia. Things get more than a little bit confusing from that point on in this book, unfortunately. Cort's friend Yuri recognizes Aria. He believes she just may be the missing heir to the throne of the Catarinia Werewolf Empire. He comes up with a plan to trade her back.
I had read the other less than favorable reviews and I was really giving this book the benefit of the doubt, that this would be a great read. Although, it started out good but, eventually it was harder and harder to continue on. The characters would behave in ways I just couldn't understand for reasons I didn't understand. I also couldn't understand the need to have Aria fake her amnesia or why her guardian Frantz, would keep her so very sheltered. As other reviewers have mentioned Aria was so naive that it was painful to read.
Overall, I'd rate this one a 2.5. I haven't read any other books by Susan Krinard. This book has not turned me off the author, just this book in particular. It's just a combination of the plots within plots within plots and the confusing actions of the characters that I didn't like in this book. The werewolf paranormal aspect I rather liked.

    Loved it.
If you could sum up Vowed in Shadows in three words, what would they be?
    Sexy, Funny, Explosive
What was one of the most memorable moments of Vowed in Shadows?
Nim and Jonah in the weapons room when she helps him discover a new weapon.
What does Renée Raudman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She makes it easy to see these characters and their personalities from the beginning and is very good about maintaining the personalities of returning characters as well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    both
    Completely unsurprising and completely enjoyable.
Would you listen to Vowed in Shadows again? Why?
I quite enjoyed the romance stories of the first three books in this series. They all sort follow the same path but it is a quite pleasant listen. They are not outstandingly different but I was just looking for a satisfying listen and this fit the bill.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
In this book I particularly enjoyed the scene when demon possed Nim(a crude sort of sexy smartass heroine) is confronted by some overly starched prissy angel possesed
Have you listened to any of Ren??e Raudman???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love Renee Raudman as narrator. She is just as good at this series as she is relating the Kate Daniels series.

Story was kinda short, could have been fleshed out more. Instant attraction between Marcus and Winter, was ok, but could have develed into the reason and repercussions/benefits of cross species mating/bonding more. Not a bad listen at all. I will download the next book. Not right away but sometime in the near future.
Enjoyed this book. I want to more from this autho
I enjoyed this audio book. The story included many characters which I believe will lead to more stories. I hope Audible will get more from this author.
