Doug Glanville remembers the famous “Bartman” game at Wrigley Field in 2003. That’s because he was a member of the Cubs and part of one of the most infamous events in franchise history. Glanville has other more notable moments in the game including getting his 1,000th hit albeit, the day his father died.
But Glanville is far more important for the social subjects he tackles whether on a show he hosts on Chicago’s Marquee network entitled, “Class in session” or the class he teaches at the university of Connecticut: “Sports and Society.” Glanville also wrote for the New York Times tackling issues such as race in sports and PEDs in baseball.
This very informative podcast gives you a peak into the life of a man who seeks to educate and it comes naturally to Glanville. His parents were both teachers.

Being the marketing and sales director of a major league team isn’t easy, unless you win. And for Brooks Boyer, this Chicago White Sox season has been a downer. There’s nothing he can do about but that continue making sure the fans have a great experience. Boyer has been with the White Sox since 2004 when Ozzie Guillen took over as manager. One year later the team won its first World Series in 88 years and then, in 2006, drew nearly 3 million fans.
“You never know what the product is going to look like…if the White Sox are going to win 100 games, 90 games and win the division, they’re going to go .500 and under .500. It’s out of our control. You can’t control what happens inside those lines but we certainly can maximize the experience which eventually maximizes the revenue," Boyer says on the show.
Prior to his arrival, Boyer spent ten years with the Bulls including some championship seasons. Among his achievements, hooking up the company producing the champagne that would used if the Bulls won another title. They did and Boyer handed Michael Jordan a bottle as he entered a triumphant locker room.
Boyer also played a significant role in choosing the White Sox announcers including Jason Benetti, Steve Stone and Len Kasper, all guests on this podcast.
If Boyer’s name sounds somewhat familiar, he played college basketball at Notre Dame under Digger Phelps and John MacLeod. And he was captain of the team in 1993.

Dan Bernstein has been a staple at Chicago all sports radio station WSCR, 670 the score for over 28 years. He partnered with former Chicago Tribune writer Terry Boers for 17 years, growing a significant fan base including those who actually didn’t like their show! 
In part two of this revealing podcast, Bernstein discusses what makes a good talk show host. He says making sure you know what your audience is interested in and always broadcasting is if you’re talking to one person.
Vibrant, irreverent and early on, impatient and screaming at callers, Bernstein admits he’s mellowed. But not for his total devotion to Children’s oncology services. He‘s passionate about a charity centered around pediatric cancer that’s not about hospitals as it is about life. And Bernstein hosts an annual poker tournament which helps pour thousands of dollars into the charity.
It’s hard to imagine this Duke grad, now in his 50’s doing anything else but he wouldn’t mind doing some play by play again. He called Rockford Lightening games in the CBA and DePaul basketball. 
So, where does Bernstein want to be in the future? “I’m just glad I have a steady job.”

Jorge Sedano of ESPN joined Mike Gill and Phil de Montmollin on the latest conversation from the Announcer Schedules Podcast. Sedano dives into his career journey starting at a tiny sports talk radio show on the experimental AM dial in Miami to working on Miami Heat broadcasts to becoming one of the most versatile talents at ESPN. A prolific sideline reporter, Sedano tells what it’s like to work on NBA broadcasts and handle in-game interviews with the likes of Greg Popovich and Steve Kerr. Now a play-by-play announcer as well, Sedano discusses the latest chapter of his journey calling games for ESPN Radio. The conversation concludes with Sedano describing his mission of elevating more Hispanic voices in the sports media industry.Jorge Sedano hosts Sedano & Kap on ESPNLA 710 weekday evenings from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. PT. Sedano contributes to ESPNLA 710’s Lakers coverage and is a frequent guest on the station’s other talk shows to discuss the NBA. He is also a sideline reporter for ESPN and ABC’s NBA game coverage as well as a regular contributor to the network’s studio shows including NBA Today, Around the Horn and SportsCenter. Sedano began with ESPNLA 710 in September 2016 as a co-host on Mornings with Keyshawn, Jorge and LZ, alongside former USC and NFL star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson and writer LZ Granderson. Sedano joined ESPN in 2013 as the host of Sedano & Stink on ESPN Radio, with Mark Schlereth.
