Doug Bruno is in his 36th year as head coach of the Lady Blue Demons at DePaul University and has guided his teams to 25 NCAA tournaments. But the man with the sand paper voice has so many other accomplishments not the least of which was being inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022. He played under legendary DePaul head coach Ray Meyer and eventually was an assistant to his son, Joey. Bruno is also proud of his basketball camp which began in 1980 and is still going strong and in 1979 was tabbed as head coach of the first women’s pro league, the WBL. The league lasted but a 4 years. “The Hustle managed a TV contract and strong media coverage during its short run. Now 72, Bruno has no designs of retiring. Coincidentally, all four worked for the Chicago Tribune during their careers. Rick Morrissey is currently a columnist for the rival Sun Times and he relates an episode involving a line drive and his computer. Harrowing, yes and hilarious just the same. Teddy Greenstein, now a senior editor at PointsBet, discussed several run-ins with the rather tempestuous Sammy Sosa. David Haugh, co-host on WSCR The Score’s morning show, recalls stories with two legendary baseball stars, one from the Cubs and the other from the White Sox.
