Star Citizen’s popularity continues to grow as we finish Q1 and receive the first update of the year. Development is moving fast, the year’s rewards are up in the air, and new players are jumping in every day. Today I’m bringing in a guest I tracked down on Reddit after seeing their testimonial. From a relatively ignored and sometimes mocked patch to one of the best in a long time. Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 is currently in open testing before being pushed out to the live Star Citizen servers, and there is A LOT in this update that was not previously known about. So I brought in 2 Star Citizen veterans to talk about what’s in this update, why the additions are so important, and why the update is taking so long.

As of Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 there are not many characters in the verse. 2 of the existing characters, The Voice of New Babbage and Agent Rowena Dulli (of the Xenothreat Event), are portrayed by the same person. Open development allows Star Citizen to share more about its development than almost any other game on the market, but that doesn’t mean everything is shared at all times. For years SC Leaks(now PIPELINE) has been a go-to destination for backers to learn just a little more about what’s going on in CIG, but just recently a massive shift has taken it in a different direction. Today I talk with the owner and founder of SC Leaks about this brand change, what led to it, and the history of the group as a whole. Star Citizen exists in a small genre. Space Sims are popular, but they are few and far between. Elite Dangerous has announced that future console development is ending for the game. This could be good and bad for the PC side of game development going forward. While things could accelerate, this could be a sign of slowed development.
