  • Spiritual Gifts and Purpose with Makhosi Candiss Pitts

A lot of people give up when they experience major breaking points in their lives. For us women, pregnancy and menopause are two of the most challenging phases. We feel overwhelmed with what's happening around us, and we can't seem to know our purpose, especially when we experience intense mood swings and other depressing events.

In today’s episode, Makhosi Candiss Pitts shares her life-changing experience, from the difficulty of conception to dropping out of medical school to pursue a spiritual journey. She further shares how it helped her become who she is today. She also explains the concept of shamanism and how she was able to help others discover their purpose in life.

Tune in if you want to learn more about shamanism and the importance of your spirituality in guiding you to achieve your purpose in life.

    About Our Guest

Makhosi Candiss Pitts graduated with degrees in business and marketing. While she was preparing for medical school, she was at the top 1% of consultations in a direct sales company before realizing that she does not feel any sense of fulfilment. This situation led her to her spiritual journey toward shamanism.

Spiritual Gifts and Purpose with Makhosi Candiss PittsMakhosi’s Hormonal Issues

    • Makhosi was diagnosed with having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
    • It made her life difficult because she needed to take several pills and treatments. After she went off the pill, she got pregnant in two weeks.

The Effects of PCOS on Makhosi’s Pregnancy

    • Makhosi says she was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove cysts on her ovaries.
    • Before her surgery, she was asked to do a pregnancy test first.
    • Her surgeon went up to her and told her that she was pregnant, and she said it was “some magical ovulation.”
    • Her pregnancy with her son was challenging because she was still experiencing hormonal issues.

    What is a Shaman?

    • There is no cultural context to understand what a shaman is.
    • The spiritual abilities and gifts are the “by-products” of being a shaman because anyone can possess these without being a shaman.
    • A shaman’s role is to be a bridge between the physical and the spiritual planes.
    • A shaman is born to become one, and there is no choice for them to decline.

    Her Calling as a Shaman

    • Doctors thought her spiritual experiences were rare illnesses. She was diagnosed with a bunch of different diseases.
    • After she decided she was not going to medical school, her spiritual journey began.

Makhosi as the “Google Translate of Spirituality”

    • Makhosi was more of a spiritual teacher in her healing practice, and she works with people of all backgrounds.
    • One of her clients called her the “Google Translate of Spirituality” because she can translate spiritual concepts that can be applied in their lives in a way that they can understand.

How Spiritual Practice Makes a Difference

    • The best spiritual practice is how we live our lives.
    • Makhosi says the life we’re living is the physical manifestation of how we perceive our experiences.

Alignment with Our Purpose in Life

    • Makhosi explained that we have to allow our perspective to shift.
    • Spirits are always conveying messages through our personal experiences.
    • At the end of the day, the higher self will always remind us to get back on track while the opportunity is still there

  • The Enneagram with Stephanie Davis

The enneagram, unlike other personality systems, is a deep dive into what makes us tick. It can show us forces that can assist us in finding the self-discovery we need to understand our subconscious programming. It will be especially helpful for those of us in our menopause years, because it is such a time of self-discovery for us.

To help us understand, our guest for today is Stephanie Davis, an enneagram expert and a trainer educated in business, psychology, and systems theory. She’s been doing this work for about 30 years, working primarily with corporations. Today we’re going to find out more about the enneagram, the nine different types and their general characteristics, and what your type might be.

This episode is truly informative and fascinating; you don’t want to miss this one! So tune in and learn more about self-discovery through the enneagram.

Let’s go through the discussion points of this episode:

    • (02:28) The enneagram is a deep dive into what makes you tick. Unlike other personality systems, it goes deeper than behaviors.
    • (04:23) Oscar Ichazo came up with the enneagram of Personality in the 70s, taking psychology and ego development and mapping it on the symbol.
    • (08:39) What you can get from learning the enneagram is a perpetual self-busting machine. You start to see things about yourself that you never realized.
    • (12:02) In the enneagram, what makes you your type is how “messed up” you are when it comes to your heart/passion (emotional distortion), head/fixation (mental distortion), and gut/subtype (instinct).
    • (16:42) There is a key emotion for each triad. Within each triad are three types: one type tends to overdo the key emotion, the other is the opposite, and the last has a weird relationship with it.
    • (18:06) An example of the gut triad. Gut triad: it’s all about the boundaries, and their key emotion is anger.
    • (25:27) There are no accurate enneagram tests. We pick up our behaviors from our parents and social expectations. This wiring is not something you can include in a test, and the most it can do is give you a starting point of where to look.
    • (26:56) The gut triad (1, 8, 9), what makes them tick, their ego, and how they react.
        • (26:01) Type 1
        • (26:56) Type 8
        • (29:33) Type 9
    • (32:20) The heart triad (2, 3 4): what makes them tick, their ego, and how they react. This type focuses on social relationship dynamics. Their overarching issue is shame.
        • (33:33) Type 2
        • (37:26) Type 3
        • (42:25) Type 4
    • (46:16) The goal is to loosen the illusions of your type, not change your type. Your strengths are still there, but your weaknesses will be a lot easier to deal with.
    • (51:43) We’re all going to have certain characteristics of nine types to some degree. Each has an interesting relationship with the two types beside them. Meanwhile, the two types that connect to yours in the diagram are your opposites.
    • (57:23) The head triad (5, 6, 7): what makes them tick, their ego, and how they react.
        • (57:45) Type 5
        • (1:00:58) Type 6
        • (1:07:46) Type 7
    • (1:13:37) Other theories from Katherine Fauvre and Claudio Naranjo, and the continuous evolution of the field
    • (1:21:52) Resources for your growth
    • (1:24:13) Going through the nine enneagram types and drawing a caricature for each
