LinkedIn will always have a special place in my entrepreneurial journey. When I launched a Lead Generation platform, in 2011, LinkedIn was my go to place to meet new prospects, publishers and even talent. While the platform has changed over the years, I think you’ll find that like Google, the main product has remained the same. Whereas, social platforms like Facebook are really unrecognizable from when they first launched. One thing is for sure, LinkedIn is still considered the number 1 Social platform for businesses, sales teams and talent acquisition teams. But beware of hiring "LinkedIn lead generation" "appointment setting" companies to do outreach and manage communication.
I know, I know... You should invest time and money into both, ALWAYS! But let's say you only have enough time and money to invest into one. If you're in eCommerce, it's no doubt Marketing. You need traffic to sell your products. But if you're a service provider or a company serving businesses, then investing time and money into Sales will give you the most ROI in the short term.
The purpose of a Landing Page is to capture leads and data to convert into a sale. You may not need a landing page. I say this because I’ve worked with many solopreneurs and artists over the years who had no desire to generate a sale or a lead on their website. The only reason they had a website was to tell visitors their story. If this is the case for you, then you should reconsider. I like to compare a landing page to a sales flyer or a postcard. The purpose is to help people focus on a single message. Whereas, a brochure will promote multiple products. The same can be said for a website vs a landing page. The landing page is a mini version of the website with a specific goal to highlight one thing. A landing page is actionable. For those who have multiple products and services, you need to build a landing page for every product and service. The good news is you can usually get away with duplicating the design and simply editing the copy and images. If you’re looking to give your customers an elevated experience you should consider building dynamic landing pages. These landing pages are programmed to give the user a customized experience depending on what location they’re visiting from, what time, what device, etc.
There’s always someone trying to capitalize on the journey between you and your customer, in turn causing friction. Why? Because there are publishers on the internet. While they want to create a better experience, they also want a piece of the relationship; so they’re going to charge you per lead or they’re going to charge you a fee. They create an opportunity for you to talk and engage with your customers, but they also can dominate the top of the Google Search rankings. Which means small businesses need to be versed in understanding how Lead Marketplaces affect their industry.
