  • Episode 91: Religion ≠ Political Party

    * 00:00 - Introduction and Free-for-All (A potpourri of questions with Peil girls)
    * 10:34 - Main Topic (Religion ≠ Political Party)

    On episode NINETY-ONE of Let the Bird Fly! Mike, while in Utah, had the opportunity to sit down with Barb Munoz to discuss the difficulties and dangers of equating religion and politics. Ms. Munoz may pretend like she cornered Mike for this episode, but don't let her fool you, it didn't take too much arm twisting. And Mike came back from Utah down right giddy about this interview. But before getting to main topic, Mike opens with the daughters of Rev. Tyler Peil and a potpourri of random questions. (You may remember Rev. Peil from our last episode, and if you missed, check it out right here.) A huge thanks to Ms. Munoz for taking the time to sit down and chat with Mike. We hope y'all will enjoy this one as much as Mike did!

    As we continue our Wingin' It series on the life of Martin Luther, Mike and Wade sit down to discuss the Frederick the Wise, who plays no small role in the Reformation. In fact, Wade and Mike think his role is big enough to fill two Wingin' Its, so this is only the first installment . (Time will tell if they can keep it to only two.) We hope you are enjoying this series on the Life of Luther and if you are make sure to share with your family and friends.

    On episode NINETY of Let the Bird Fly! Mike finds himself in Utah, which means no beer, or maybe it means beer...I guess I'm not sure, regardless he does have the opportunity to sit down with Rev. Jon Micheel and Rev. Tyler Peil (who our long-time listeners may remember from episodes 9 and 10). Both pastors currently serve at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, UT. Both Rev. Micheel and Rev. Peil have been serving on a committee to create a new hymnal for the Wisconsin Synod, which is the reason Mike sits down with them. If you're interested in the project you can find information at the WELS Hymnal Project website. And if you'd like more information Prince of Peace Lutheran, you can find their website right here. • Wingin’ It 89.1: The Life of Luther (Part 11) – A University Reformation
    In this installment of our Wingin' It series on the life of Martin Luther, Mike rejoins Wade to discuss the Reformation as a University phenomenon. As you might expect the conversation starts in Wittenberg and the university there, but continues well beyond, even to our own day. As such this is another episode in the series that strays from the history proper of Luther's life. By now you might have realized that we find the life of Luther to be much more significant than simply who and when Luther was, which is why we're enjoying this series and hope you are as well.

  • Wingin’ It 88.1: The Life of Luther (Part 10) – Intro to Wittenberg
    Mike isn't able to join us for the installment of our Wingin' It series on the life of Martin Luther, but Peter steps in to keep Wade from going rouge. He doesn't have much to offer on his own, but you'll find Wade is quite disciplined. (Coincidence? I think not.) In this installment we discuss the Lutherstadt Wittenberg. A place that is not inconsequential to the Reformation, nor Luther's life. Listen into the conversation as the guys ask why this happened, what it meant for the Reformation, and even occasionally what it means for us today.

    On episode EIGHTY-EIGHT of Let the Bird Fly! Mike and Wade welcome back Rev. Dr. Mark Braun to discuss teaching introduction to theology, something that all three know a thing or two about. In the Free-for-All the guys discuss what they're teaching this semester, so this episode really ties together (even a blind squirrel, amirite?)

  • Episode 87: Called to Defend

    * 00:00 - Introduction
    * 03:32 - Free-for-All (Wisconsin Winters)
    * 14:51 - Main Topic (Called to Defend)

    On episode EIGHTY-SEVEN of Let the Bird Fly! the Mike and Peter welcome Valerie Locklaire to discuss apologetics and her book on the topic: Called to Defend: An Apologetics Handbook for the Middle School Student. Ms. Locklaire is a fellow of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism, and Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, where she also earned the Diploma of Christian Apologetics. Before getting to the main topic, however, the three discuss Wisconsin winters; what to do, how to survive, and shorts in January. But the real reason the guys asked Valerie to join them, was to talk about her interests in apologetics and specifically her book Called to Defend (and don't worry they do make it there).
    As mentioned in the episode, we will be giving away FOUR signed copies of Ms. Locklaire's book Called to Defend: An Apologetics Handbook for the Middle School Student. For your chance to snag one, head over to our Book Giveaway Page for all the details. A great big thank you to Valerie for joining us!

  • Wingin’ It 86.1: The Life of Luther (Part 8) – Role of Confession
    Our Wingin' It series on the life of Martin Luther steps back to look at a topic more than a time period in Luther's life; namely, the role of confession. In the last episode the guys discussed Luther's trip to Rome, where he was disappointed with a poor confessor while in Rome. Confession and Absolution remains an integral part of Luther's life throughout, as anyone familiar with his Small Catechism knows. In this episode Wade and Mike dive a bit more into what this means for Luther throughout his life. Listen into the conversation as the guys ask why this happened, what it meant for the Reformation, and even occasionally what it means for us today.
