  • 17. Social Media Tar - Hiply Practice with Diane

It's Tuesday so today we practice Hiply. I'm here with Diane who is feeling tarry about showing up on social media without fear. I can certainly relate with her and I'm sure most of us can. We decide that the key is to just do it messy, because perfect is the enemy of getting things done.

We speak about the challenges of being social on social media. We practice Hiply and work through the tarry feelings that some of us (or all of us?) have when it comes to posting and showing up on social media. Diane would like to stop hiding and show up more on social media, she would like to be a person who participates, connects and engages and not be afraid of taking risks.

Diane would like to stop hiding put herself out there and take those risks and share what I have to share

We talk about just doing it messy. And getting it done. Perfect is the enemy of getting things done.

After talking it through, sorting through some of the judgments and stories, and giving herself permission to do it messy Diane intends to post on Friday, and post once a week.

  • 16. Shifting our Language with Patrick

It is Friday so I'm speaking to an expert about Hiply.  Every Tuesday we practice Hiply and every Friday we talk to experts or do Hiply Theory.

Today I'm speaking with Patrick Hogan in New York. He's a coach for movement and life. We talk about how the words we use matter. That we're all socialized to use these fighting words without even knowing it.

Patrick starts with a confession that he's Not a Warrior. He questions the use of war on drugs, war on sickness, waging war within ourselves. Even Love Warrior has this undertone of fighting.

What if we can take the tar, or judgments, out of our words? Because the words we use matter.

Mama Hiply here and I dream of a world with more kindness, peace and love, where we are just as practiced in the use of loving language as we are in being reactive, blamy and judgmental. Join me in making a difference, one Hiply moment at a time.

Patrick has been thinking about these fighting words a lot, like when we are in opposition to something that's not love.

We are looking for new word ideas, that are for, not against, what we want. Listeners - if you have any ideas please let us know.

    Notable Quotes:

So, what should we do instead of the fighting words?  I think, for me, this is where I've landed on. And this came from my studies in our studies with Martha Beck is something more akin to Wayfinder.

Why does a peaceful thing, like yoga, have a Warrior pose?

So in sports, there's competition, you and me. But even with how we  work  with our own selves, we carry over that same thing. We start to treat ourself as an enemy, and that's where I think the biggest problem lies. It's that we conceive of health as something that needs to be won, or conquered, or that all the natural instincts of our body need to be suppressed and pushed down.

It's a reminder that we're not in competition with ourselves. We are actually trying to cooperate and coregulate with our own bodies, our own selves. Our own bodies can have a lot of wisdom to help guide us where we want to go. Even just in the mundane examples, like, say,  your ego wants you to get up and run five miles in the morning, but you wake up and your body does not want to get up. A lot of people have value judgment on that, that says you're being lazy, and you've got to go out and get them and just do it and all that kind of stuff.  But there might be a lot of lot of wisdom into maybe you don't have didn't have enough sleep, and maybe you need to take care of yourself. And maybe your body's trying to tell you that or maybe you just simply deal with their body in a way that's not so punishing, you know, or critical.

  • 15. Tar in Relating - Hiply Practice with Rose

Today we practice Hiply with Rose, who is in the process of finding her true nature, going through a separation and divorce and feeling tarry about how she relates to the people around her, including herself.  She's sensitive to other peoples energies and wants to be more centered, grounded and less reactive.

She has come to the right place, Hiply is all about practicing loving language, and taking care and regulating ourselves and our nervous system.

We talk about the window of tolerance, regulating our nervous system and self care.

We bring in Rose's inner peace Self to tend to her triggered and tarry parts to bring her relief. She felt lighter, a column of light and found her inner peace. From that place she has options.

We talk about deescalating in volatile situations by getting in touch with that IP Self. About not judging the tarry parts and being there for them. The Hiply 80/20 rule talks about us spending 80% of our time thinking about the 20% that's not perfect, not working, not the way we want it. What if we could spend 80% of our time noticing the 80% of things that are going Hiply and call that perfect?

I tell Rose about the one minute rant to get out of a tarry situation. Get a piece of paper, set a time for 1 minute and rant - write down everything you hate about the situation, got full 2 year old tantrum. Go wild. After a minute, there will be some space and peace. There are options.

  • 14. Hiply Wise Woman with Jen

Find your brave wise woman inside you, with Jen Legaspi, certified coach, yoga teacher and author of the book "Brave Wise Woman".

Lessons about Jen's healing journey. Who am I really? Do I really love who I am? How do I come into my power. How do I practice bravery every day. What are the parallels to the Hiply Language of Love.

Once you find that place of truth inside of you, you really have no choice but to honor it, to be brave and to live as an expression of our true and authentic self.

The Hiply IP (inner peace) Self is like the inner brave wise woman. Parts of us get triggered, the IP Self is never triggered, is always at peace.

    Notable Quotes:

When we learn to reparent our inner child we get to draw on our inner Mother (who is like the IP Self).  We can speak kind to ourself, show love to all of us and spontaneously heal ourselves.

It's not so much about whether it's right or wrong but whether it's useful.

The way you do one thing the way you do everything.

Vision of creating a peaceful world. We need more peace keepers in this world that are helping to build bridges.

The concept of regulation as a prerequisite of communication

Hiply Language as a cycle breaker. Easy and disarming without judgments to get to calm.

    Listener Tip from Jen:

Practice to work with negative thoughts - ask the question - I wonder what my next thought is going to be? To stop and create space. A little pattern interupt.

  • 13. Money Tar - Hiply Practice with Shaheen

Today we talk to Shaheen who is transitioning from her 9 to 5 job to being self employed. Even though it's something she wants to do she sometimes has tarry feelings about it, is afraid she won't make enough money, won't be motivated and is struggling trusting that all will work out.

She is worried that her art will change now that she's doing it for money. Her relationship to money really is the underlying thought.

How can we work with our limiting money beliefs? So it doesn't feel so tarry?

Listen to Let's Hiply This and find out how to work with limiting beliefs, overcome the tarry feelings and just feel more Hiply.

    Notable Quotes:

3:32   "I'd like to celebrate you for making that decision and showing up for yourself and for your passion."

8:21.  "What if? What if this time is different? What if you get to do exactly the jewelry you want? And you get to attract exactly the people that want exactly that? And they want to pay what you're worth?"

11:31 " Shaheen is excited. Money flows where energy and excitement is."

14:00 " Because even when I say those fears out loud, I know they're wrong. You know, I know it's not true. That's protection."

15:14 " Parts Meeting -  imagined it like a board meeting. Yeah. Yeah. And yeah, there's all the different parts. That's pretty cool. I like need to have a board meeting?

Shaheen comes up with ways to stay motivated, some steps to take when she's not feeling like working and baby steps to get where she wants to be.

24:00  "Shaheen like the pathway that we have. And, you know, I really appreciate what you said about , it's not good or bad, or not negative. Even when you have these limiting thoughts, they're still your thoughts and just, you know, saying thank you and okay, and just acknowledging that these are parts of you that have helped you in the past. And so it's not something we just need to completely disregard and say, I'm not gonna listen to you. It's like, Hey, I love you. You've helped me let's see how we can, you know, still create this harmony and symbiotic relationship with what's coming up.

  • 12. Bonus Interview with Mama Hiply - by Sarah Richardson

In this bonus episode Sarah Richardson interviews Claudia Williams, Mama Hiply, for her Big and Possible Podcast.

    Notable Quotes:

Hiply is a language of love and a state of being.

Speaking Hiply is a playful way to interact with self help and coaching and can be beneficial in that it leaves preconceived notions behind.

How many words does the Hiply Language have?
Right now, there's Hiply, which has five different meanings. There's self hiply, which is using hiply. on yourself.  Tar has two meanings, the IP self which is the inner peace self, which is your higher self inside you, but I found this word self so confusing, because it's used in so many different words. ways. So inner peace, self is IP self.  Deep listening - listening with the only intention to reduce the other persons tar. Loving Speach.

Sarah wonders about a hiply board game - what would that look like?

Sarah acknowledges Claudia and presences that sometimes the hardest thing we can do is simplifying a very complicated thing. She's acknowledging the path Claudia is taking and celebrating what powerful possibilities are connected deeply to this work. She sees Claudia embodying the playfulness of coaching and spreading love and light in the world.

  • 11. Hiply Fun with Becky

    Hiply Fun with Becky

Today I'm discussing tarry situations with fellow Elementum Life Coach Becky Humphrey.  She moved to Costa Rica after first shifting her internal world then deciding she needs an external shift as well. We normalize value judgments on feelings and appreciate the new language of Hiply and Tar that doesn't have these judgments attached to it.

    Notable Quotes:

Reframing conflict as an opportunity instead of threat. "Conflict really means that you care enough to bring what's bothering you forward, in an attempt, I think, to be seen, and to resolve it and, and come back together to love."

"I love that the concept here of like, accepting what is, right and accepting the fact that we're human, and we're gonna feel tarry sometimes, and that, that being able to, like, not be fighting that and not be adding all the judgment on top of it like that makes the situation that's already perhaps uncomfortable, and it takes it to a darker space. So can you be with what's there? And allow yourself to feel it, so that then you can heal it?"

Becky's listener try this at home tip:

Get the tar out of your head and onto paper - just write it all down then go back and look at the I statements, feeling words, and acknowledge it without the judgment and stories.

  • 10. Motivation Tar - Hiply Practice with Robert

Riding the Hiply Wave with my little brother, surfer and surf shop owner, Robert Stehlik, in Hawaii. We talk about the struggle of balancing what we want when even when it gets hard to accomplish, like posting a youtube video every week.  We practice hiply to recognize that the things that make us happy in the long run don't always make us happy in the moment.  According to Gretchen Rubin, there's four things that influence our happiness. It's feeling good, feeling bad. Being in an atmosphere of growth, and being in your integrity. For example, feeling like you're doing the right thing. So feeling good is easy. When you're feeling good, you're happy. But sometimes in order to do the right thing to be in your integrity, which in your case would be posting every day you have to like feel bad for a minute as you get going on posting the video or working on the video shooting the video. Yeah, and then you want the atmosphere of growth, which also does not always feel great in the moment, but you know, that's who you want to be as a person. So just sort of reframing Hey, It's okay, I'm feeling a little bad right now. That's normal. That's okay. Instead of charging the feeling bad, which I think is what we so often do, because that's what we're socialized to do.

    Notable Quotes:
(4.47) I'm trying to do is sort of combine and make more accessible all The things I've learned in the last few years as I'm going through life coach, I have gone through life coach training. Now I have 400 hours of practice coaching and training. And what I found is that some of the modalities and ideas are a little bit clunky, a little bit hard to follow. So I'm trying to simplify it a little bit, normalize it, and I came up with some new words and new concepts to sort of help understand the human condition, if you will, to understand what's happening to us to know that you're, it's okay, nothing wrong with you, life is messy, things come up.

(8.56) Things that make us happy in the long run don’t always make us happy in the moment.

  • 9. Hiply Parts Work with Christine Dixon, Part 2
Parts Work, the IP Self and Internal Boundaries

This is part two of a two part episode. Today we're talking about internal boundaries. We're joined by Christine Dixon, an educational therapist, and IFS Trainer.

Christine starts by defining internal boundaries and how they can be used to create a self-led plan for achieving our goals. She explains how internal boundaries can help us listen to our inner parts and be more aware of what's happening inside us instead of reacting automatically when something happens.

Christine talks about the importance of noticing our triggers and realizing that the self never gets triggered. When you’re triggered it’s always a part of us.

Christine also shares her insights on the fact that different parts of us may hate each other and how we can try to get rid of our judgmental parts by noticing if our part is judgmental if it's judging another part of ourselves or someone else.

Christine shares her top tips on building habits to check in on your parts regularly. She explains how this can help you to be more aware of your internal boundaries and how it can help you to maintain them. Tune in!
