No One Has A Right To Trump’s Tax Returns

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. Everybody is clamoring to see President Trump’s tax returns, especially Congress and the state of New York. The problem is that according to the Constitution, nobody has a right to see them. The 4th Amendment says, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, [and] papers shall not be violated.” Well, Donald Trump is a person, so this right belongs to him. And tax returns are papers, to this right applies to them. The only exception is if a warrant is issued based on testimony obtained under oath that his returns are evidence of a crime. But no one is alleging that the president has committed a specific crime. In other words, this is just a giant fishing expedition. Well, the Constitution allows for a lot of things, but fishing expeditions are not among them. It’s time for everybody to leave President Trump and his tax returns alone.

Capital Punishment and Biblical Justice Makes A Comeback

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. President Trump is bringing back the death penalty to the federal justice system by ordering the immediate executions of five inmates who are on death row for the heinous cold-blooded murder of children. There are 62 inmates on death row in federal penitentiaries, including the Muslim who blew up the Boston Marathon and the white supremacist who shot up a church meeting full of black people in South Carolina. The Bible authorizes government to use the death penalty for murder in Genesis 9:6: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” By ordering the implementation of capital punishment where it is clearly deserved, President Trump is taking us one step closer to biblical standards in our system of justice. Good for him.

Jamaican Skyrocketing Violence And Murder Rates

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. The country of Jamaica is dealing with skyrocketing violence and murder rates, and has decided they’ve hit on the solution: make it illegal for children to be spanked. They say spanking teaches children that violence is okay. But it’s the other way round. If a child gets spanked because he hits his brother on the head with a toy, he’ll reconsider his view of violence in a hurry. Spanking that is measured, purposeful, and done in response to willful disobedience is a form of love, not abuse. Spanking is not violence, it is discipline. And according to the Bible, it is necessary. Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, Proverbs says, and the rod drives it far from him. The problem in Jamaica is not that adult criminals were spanked too much, it’s that they weren’t spanked enough.

Don’t make the mistake Josh Harris made

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. Josh Harris, as a 20-something millennial, wrote a best selling book a number of years ago, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye.” It sold nearly a million copies and launched a movement to re-emphasize sexual purity among young singles in America. But somewhere along the way he began to drift from the faith of his youth. He has now divorced his wife and renounced Christianity altogether. What happened? We’ll probably never know all the details, but when a man’s faith goes bad, it’s usually because of a slow leak rather than a blowout. The writer of Hebrews warns us against “drifting” away from what we have heard. Josh Harris let it happen to him; don’t let it happen to you. Christianity was entirely true when he was 6, when he was 16 and when he will be 60. Let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering.

Dads, get your family together for meals

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. One of the unfortunate casualties of our digital culture is the death of the family meal. Dads, you need to take the lead in seeing to it that your family has dinner together as often as possible. It’s good for you, and it’s good for your kids. A study from New Zealand shows that junior high students who enjoyed frequent family meals had higher levels of emotional well-being and lower levels of depression. In Iran, believe it or not, adolescents who have regular family meals were less likely to suffer from anxiety, insomnia, and all types of mental disorders. Family meals are linked to lower levels of suicide and higher levels of self-esteem among adolescents, and among adults who shared family meals when they were adolescents. Hey, if it works in Iran, it’ll work here. Bon Appetit!

Married two-parent families are good for everybody

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. One of the lies our culture tells is that marriage is fine for people who want that sort of thing, but since it’s purely a matter of personal preference, we shouldn’t have public policies that encourage marriage. Don’t let them lie to you. Research from 90 countries reveals that two-parent families are more important to a nation’s well-being than anything, including population size and education. High shares of married two-parent families increase a nation’s gross domestic product, household savings, and educational attainment, and reduces crime at the same time. True patriots will want to see policies that encourage marriage over cohabitation, discourage sexual experimentation, and protect children from the grisly impact of no-fault divorce. Marriage is good for America. Plus, getting married and having kids is just plain fun. When God designed marriage, he knew what he was doing.

When you do to an unborn sea turtle what abortionists do to babies

Police in Miami Beach Florida arrested a woman over the weekend when she was spotted stomping on a sea turtle nest [and jabbing at it with a wooden stake]. The woman faces a criminal charge for “turtle egg molestation or harassment.” The sea turtle was protected as an endangered species in 1973, which means unborn sea turtles gained protection the same year that unborn babies lost theirs. Planned Parenthood currently gets $500 million a year to operate abortion clinics. Bottom line: destroy unborn sea turtles, go to jail. Destroy unborn babies, get rich. Speaking of the sea turtle, the Miami Beach police said, “thankfully, it appears the eggs were not damaged.” The same can’t be said for unborn babies.

Diversity does not unite; it divides and destroys

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. One of the enduring lies of Satan is that diversity is a source of strength. It’s not. The wrong kind of diversity weakens, divides, and destroys. It is unity that makes us strong. America, until recently, has enjoyed a profound unity of cultural values. We’ve shared an agreement on cultural standards regarding God, the Ten Commandments, sex, marriage, and the sanctity of human life, and that is what has made us strong and powerful. As that unity is attacked and destroyed in the name of diversity, America becomes progressively weaker. Harvard scholar Robert Putnam’s research concluded that diversity, right down to the community level, causes social withdrawal, isolation,distrust, civic disengagement and unrest, and reduced community involvement. Diversity does not unite communities, it divides them and eventually destroys them. We can do better.

Pot destroys teen brains

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. If you care about teenagers and their mental health, the rush to legalize marijuana in America is a bad idea. The THC count - THC is the active ingredient in pot - is 68% higher in the pot teens are smoking today that it was back in the 70s. This is not your father’s dope. And the problem is that pot has a dramatic effect on developing teen brains. The part of the brain that controls problem solving, memory, language and judgment is not fully developed until age 25, and marijuana messes with that part of the growing brain. As a result, we are seeing an epidemic of dope-induced psychosis, addiction, suicide, depression and anxiety. As drug treatment consultant Ben Cort says, “The bottom line is, weed ain’t for kids in any form - eating it, vaping it, smoking it. It’s not okay.”

Regressives have hearts but no brains

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. The regressive left cannot be reasoned with, they can only be defeated. This is because everything for them is emotion. The only time they use reason is to support positions they’ve arrived at purely by feeling. One example is the tragic picture of the illegal alien father and his daughter, drowning as they tried to sneak into America. Anyone with a heart is moved by that picture. But the question is this: what does compassion do about it? The first thing compassion does is ask what can we do to make sure this never happens to another father and daughter again. Insisting that people apply for asylum only in their home countries or at ports of entry will effectively discourage fathers from trying such dangerous things in the future. Hmmm. Guess that makes President Trump the compassionate one.
