In this episode, Ryan Berman shares his inspirational journey of self-discovery through writing a book and pursuing courageous ideas in business.
“Like when you first tiptoe into that world, you have your own idea of what, like a powerful entrepreneur is gonna be like until you know, something about the word COURAGE resonates with them, and he comes up and has lunch with me. And so, like you, you realize that you're not that different. And I think that was big, you know, in my own mind, I was putting space between who I was and this pedestal of who other people are. And then when you actually peel back the onion, the only difference is that they've done at the level that you kind of want to do it at.”
As the founder and chief creative officer of Courageous, a creative consultancy, Berman has helped countless companies and leaders discover their true potential. But his journey to success wasn't always easy. As a creative in San Diego, he found himself struggling to balance his passion for creativity with the demands of leadership in management. Through his experiences, Berman emphasizes the importance of being courageous in the pursuit of your dreams and finding personal and professional alignment to achieve success.
During the episode, Berman also touches on the challenges of shedding old versions of oneself and embracing authenticity, even if it means going against popular opinion. He highlights the impact of being willing to outwork others for success and building a talented army through networking and finding the right people for the job. Overall, the episode serves as an inspiration for listeners who may be on the fence about pursuing their dreams or finding their true purpose, encouraging them to take action and embrace imperfection to achieve their goals.

In this episode of The Life Shift Podcast, Matt LeBris shares his journey of chasing external success, the attention that comes with it, and how he shifted his focus to internal growth.
"The chase was all about the attention, right? Because I have been programmed over the course of my life too. Get attention through achievement, get love through achievement. So it's not the worst thing in the world because it led me to achieve a lot. So I'm not gonna sit here and say that it was like, you know, I'm a victim to this. It led me to achieve a lot, but it took me some time to realize what was actually happening."
Matt recounts a moment in his life when he surprised himself by winning a startup competition and how he felt a sense of euphoric bliss—this moment served as a reminder to him about the importance of recognizing and savoring personal victories. The conversation also delves into the power of being curious and open in conversations. Matt talks about the evolution of his podcast, Decoding Success, and how he has learned to approach conversations with a sense of curiosity.
Overall, this episode is an inspiring reminder to turn inward and prioritize personal growth as Matt shares the story of how a moment in therapy opened his eyes to how he was in a toxic relationship. It triggered personal growth in Matt and the ability to put himself first.
Matt LeBris is a born and raised New Yorker who inevitably caught the hustler spirit that fills his hometown streets. TRIGGER WARNING: This ep contains talk of childhood and adult abuse.
In her recent book, Wiley Davis shares her powerful journey of self-discovery. Growing up as a secret atheist in a Presbyterian household, she found solace in horse riding with her friends as she navigated life. But it was leaving an abusive marriage that truly tested her strength.
"I started sort of standing up to my ex-husband like, well I'm not gonna do this, and I call it like burning the white flag. The white flag is like 'I surrender' whatever it is that you want, like no, I'm gonna light that, I'm gonna douse it in gasoline and I'm gonna light it on fire because I will not surrender. I've got too much life left in me. I've got too much fight left in me."
Chapters:
00:10:55 Exploring the Impact of Childhood Trauma on Adult Decisions
00:17:55 The Last Straw: Examining the Impact of Sacrificing One's Soul for A Marriage
Wiley's story is a testament to the power of standing up for oneself and making decisions that are true to who you are, even in the face of adversity.
Raised in North Carolina, Wiley Davis learned how to navigate life as a secret atheist daughter of a minister. She found refuge with horses and her girlfriends at an old cow farm turned horse property. She moved to Los Angeles and worked in the entertainment industry before finding the love of her life - a sick yellow puppy named Hank.
Hank changed the course of her career path, inspiring Wiley to leave the sexiness of Hollywood and move into the veterinary field to compassionately care for disabled animals.
Her debut book, "It's Me or the Horse," is a fictionalized story inspired by true events which took place over the course of her lifetime throughout North Carolina, Santa Monica, and Central Florida, where she currently lives.
Wiley considers herself a student of self-improvement, female empowerment, and healing. She incorporates her learnings into her writing.

Brian Acord shares a powerful and emotional journey of leaving a high-demand religion. Growing up in Utah, surrounded by Mormons, Brian's life was deeply intertwined with the church. Everyone he knew was a church member, and he felt pressured to conform to its teachings. Brian shares his story of deepening his involvement in the church and eventually questioning its teachings, leading to his departure. After leaving the church, he felt lost and empty and found himself abandoned by former neighbors and friends who were still part of the community.
“I went into a depression that lasted several years. This is even hard to explain because overnight, I lost my ward family. 350 families. None of them reached out to me. I'm living here. I see them all out my window. Every window I look. And there are people that I coached lacrosse with for eight years that I served on the Bishop Brick for years. And the high priest group leader, I served side by side with them 20-30 hours a week for 10 years. I've never heard from them since then. They live seven houses away, seven houses. I thought we were friends. I thought we had a relationship, a true relationship.”
The conversation delves into the core values that drove Brian's involvement in the church, including a desire to help others and love thy neighbor. This episode offers a candid look at the complex emotions involved in leaving a religious community and finding one's identity outside of it. Brian's story reminds us that it is okay to question the status quo and that our identities are not defined by the communities we belong to. His journey of self-discovery is a powerful example of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of connecting with others.
Brian hosts his podcast, Strangers You Know, where he aims to give his listeners a window into the lives of people from all walks of life. Through deep and meaningful conversations, he deconstructs various aspects of life, unraveling the complexities of human experience.
Brian is an entrepreneur, educator, coach, and community advocate. He has worked with over a dozen startups, non-profits, Fortune 100 companies, and technology startups. Brian has taught business courses at multiple universities and currently teaches the Everyday Entrepreneur Program to refugees and underserved communities. He is a certified coaching trainer for USA Lacrosse. Brian is also a mentor for several dozen startups and is involved in community organizations such as Common Thread Utah and the Nomad Alliance, where he serves on the Board of Directors and Immigration and New American Integration task force, respectively.

Daniel Rinaldi shares his story of how losing his older brother to an inoperable brain tumor at the age of 10 changed his life forever.
“I think once my little brother came along; it was easier to let some of that go and really try and connect and cultivate that relationship and try and be as present and intentional with my younger brother that I could, as it could be because I just wanted to be this ideal older brother. I'm sure that has a lot to do with not having my older brother.”
