ある時、イエスは外で祈っておられました。ちょうど祈り終えたところへ一人の弟子が来て、「主よ。バプテスマのヨハネが弟子たちに教えたように、私たちにも祈りを教えてください」と願いました。(2)そこでイエスは、「このように祈りなさい」とお教えになりました。「天のお父様。あなたのきよい御名があがめられますように。あなたの御国がすぐに来ますように。(3)私たちに日々必要な食物をお与えください。(4)私たちの罪をお赦しください。私たちも、私たちに罪を犯した者を赦します。私たちを誘惑に会わせないでください。」

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”(2)He said to them, “When you pray, say:“‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.(3)Give us each day our daily bread.(4)Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.”

「真夜中に、どうしてもパンを三つ借りなければならなくなって、友達の家に駆けつけたとします。戸をドンドンたたき、声を張り上げて、『迷惑をかけてすまない。突然のお客があったのだけど、あいにく、家には一切れのパンもないんだ。お願いだから貸してくれないか』と頼みます。 (7)友達は何と答えるでしょう。中から、『かんべんしてくれ。いま何時だと思っているんだ。戸じまりもしてしまったし、もうみんな寝ている。何も出してやれないよ』と返って来るだけかもしれません。 (8)しかし、友達だからというのでは何もしてくれなくても、しつこく戸をたたき続けるなら、その根気に負けて、必要な物を出してくれるでしょう。 (9)祈りも同じです。あきらめずに求め続けなさい。そうすれば与えられます。捜し続けなさい。そうすれば見つかります。戸をたたきなさい。そうすれば開けてもらえます。 (10)求める人は与えられ、捜す人は見つけ出し、戸をたたく人は開けてもらえるのです。

Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; (6) a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’(7)And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’(8) I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.(9)“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.(10)For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

しかし、友達だからというのでは何もしてくれなくても、しつこく戸をたたき続けるなら、その根気に負けて、必要な物を出してくれるでしょう。
