Like Dragons Did They Fight

How does your garden grow?  

Larry Pearson, in an article entitled “The Parable of the Potato Weed”, taught, “In the gardens of our lives, weeds are always present. Some are small seedlings that don’t immediately do damage. Prophets of God have told us, however, that we need a daily reckoning of our lives, a frequent removal of all those weeds to keep them from overpowering us… when we allow things to go unchecked, small problems can grow into enormous sins that cannot be removed without tremendous effort.”  (Parable of the Potato Weed - Larry Pearson)  

In this episode, we discuss the fact that our minds are like gardens.  To grow positive, uplifting thoughts, we need to prepare the soil, choose what thoughts we want to plant in our minds, and then diligently weed that garden, every day. Our enemy is planting thought-weeds continually in our minds. If those weeds - thoughts that bring us down and stop our progress - are not weeded out regularly,  the thoughts themselves can grow into habitual ways of thinking that can destroy our hope and our belief that we can ever change.  

In today’s episode, Karen, Kim, Kellie, and Roslyn issue a call to action. They invite you to learn how you can create a daily pattern to identify, acknowledge, and then remove those negative thoughts, so that you can greet each day with hope, faith, and courage, guided by the companionship of the Spirit.

President Nelson gave us the perfect call to action:  

“Pray to know what to stop doing and what to start doing. Pray to know what to add to your environment and what to remove so the Spirit can be with you in abundance.” *

Having a weed-free mind will allow us to receive the guidance we need, and the courage to follow that guidance.

Karen Broadhead, Director of Mothers Who Know, interviews Jessica Sorensen, who shares the energy and courage it takes to fight for oneself while battling ANXIETY and DEPRESSION. With her life not rolling out the way she had planned, Jessica searched for resources to understand and address her anxiety and depression for several years in one-on-one counseling, with a variety of therapists. She noticed she did a bit better, but throughout the week and when she was no longer in therapy she would spiral into discouragement and frustration again. The day she courageously made a call to inquire about the therapeutic program for women at Life Changing Services changed her life.  She discovered the strength and power that comes from a team. She learned that aside from the clinical aspects of her anxiety and depression she was in a spiritual battle with the enemy of her joy and peace. Satan was determined to steal Jessica’s power and identity by isolating her in battle because he is afraid of her, and all women who are connected to cheer up and bless humanity.  She remembered what her spirit had always known… She was a WARRIOR!  She was a WOMAN OF LIGHT! Jessica wisely surrounded herself with the support and assistance of a powerful Warrior Women of Light team! Now she is armed with the applicable training and tools she needs to win her battles. In courageous confidence she is skilled at protecting and defending herself as needed in the art of spiritual warfare with weapons of light.

Her allegiance is to her Savior and Champion, Jesus Christ.  As she fights with Him and for Him she makes broken look beautifully invincible, and the burdens upon her shoulders look like a pair of wings!

In Mosiah 4, verse 30, counsels us, “...if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord…, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.” 

When you think about your ‘thoughts, your words, and your deeds’* in times of stress or difficult circumstances, are you always comfortable with the way you acted? Do you know what’s going on in your brain at times like that? Can you explain your behavior scientifically? Spiritually? 

Have you ever looked back and asked yourself, “What on earth was I thinking?”

We may all have had times when a word or an action of another person suddenly created a swell of emotion - frustration, anger, shame, or anxiety -  to grow within us, and resulted in us saying or doing something that later we regretted. 

Join Karen, Debbie and Roslyn as they discuss the Satanic Spin and the Chemical Scale and learn what’s actually going on in your brain scientifically and spiritually when you act outside your values system. 

Whether it’s giving in to a full-blown addiction, or simply deciding at the last minute not to follow through with something you knew would be good to do, when we do those things, we all wish later that we had chosen differently.

“Oh no!! I forgot!”

Have you ever had the sudden realization that you forgot something important, and it caused problems for you or others? Do you recall the sinking feeling of having ruined your plans, or of having deeply disappointed someone?

Remembering is important, and some things are truly vital to remember if you are going to experience growth, happiness, and peace in today’s world. In this episode, Karen and three Eternal Warriors Life Coaches each offer you an invitation to join them in a daily ritual of remembering - and not just remembering appointments, commitments, or promises. They share the process taught in Eternal Warriors to create ways to remember, every day, who you are, and whose you are. 

Our identity is one of the most important things that guides our thoughts and actions. If we approach our challenges remembering who we are - literal beloved children of a loving Heavenly Father - then we draw nearer to God and call upon the enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ each day to help  us meet those challenges. 

If we forget who we are, we may become embittered and discouraged by our trials, and turn away from the very Source that could bless and help us. We are then more prone to believe Satan’s lies that we are alone in our trials, that we will never succeed, and that we will never be enough. He steals our identity; we lose battle after battle, and we lose hope. 

“O remember, remember, my sons…” Helaman pled.* In the scriptures there are at least 328 times the word ‘remember’ is mentioned - and each Sunday in Sacrament meeting we have the opportunity to hear that word and to promise once again to remember. If we keep that promise, remembering will change our lives. 

Listen in and hear how you too can remember, and how doing so can bless relationships, heal marriages, give courage, renew strength, and bring you closer to your Heavenly Father and your Savior than ever before.

What does it take to be able to actually make progress on your goals? 

President Thomas S. Monson said, “Performance measured improves. When performance is measured and recorded the rate of improvement accelerates.” Oct 1970

So how do you measure and record daily performance and progress? Is that something you are currently doing? 

Today on our podcast Karen and three Eternal Warriors coaches discuss a simple tool that does just that, and it is helping people make big changes, one day and one small step at a time. 

This tool, initially called the Man Power Calendar*, helps people track small things that they are doing right, intentionally, which then helps them make big changes in their lives. Keeping the daily calendar helps them develop self-motivation, self-accountability, and self-respect.  Many people report that this tool has helped them be consistent and intentional for the first time in their lives.  

Could it be possible to make the process of measuring and recording fun, and for it to feel liberating and joyful? Could it help a person to see themselves more clearly, and help them to draw nearer to the Savior and access the enabling power of His Atonement?  Listen in and see how these coaches and the people they’ve mentored have found it to do all that and more!

You’ve heard a lot from us about being at war. 

Elder Robert D. Hales had this to say: 

“We are engaged in a battle between the forces of light and darkness. The Lord is our light and, literally, our salvation. His light will form a protective shield between us and the darkness. The generation of spiritual light can be found in praying, studying the scriptures, fasting and serving. "Unless you are fully engaged in living the gospel — living it with all your 'heart, might, mind and strength' — you cannot generate enough spiritual light to push back the darkness . . . “

So we have a question: 

Are you finding the light you need so you can push back the darkness? Do you feel you can be “fully engaged in living the gospel” each day? Do you succeed in getting your daily prayers and scriptures in? Would you like to do better in any of those areas? 

Being “fully engaged” is another way to describe what we, at Eternal Warriors, call “Enlisted.” As a person begins the Eternal Warriors program, they ‘enlist’ by committing to live the principles they are taught and keep the goals that they set for themselves. We find that as a person decides to enlist and follow the program, they gain the strength to do what they’ve set out to do, and they begin to see their life change for the better. 

Who are the people who are enlisting in this program and finding results that bless their lives? 
Mothers who are distraught because of the behavior of a child; Spouses who are in pain because of the behavior of their spouse; People who are simply ready to move forward in life; People who want to actually follow through on things they say they’ll do; Families who want to grow closer together; Grandparents who want a greater connection with their grandchildren; Individuals who want greater self-mastery and to understand their purpose more clearly; People who want a greater connection with the Savior and with Heavenly Father; People who want support in their daily battles with the adversary; And many others!
