    No, just from this author
Would you be willing to try another one of Stephanye Dussuds performances?
Yes - she was a good reader
What character would you cut from Oh, the Horror?
All of them. They were all ridiculous.
    Any additional comments?
This audio book was terrible. These stories felt like they were written by a 4th grader. No tension, no twists or surprises, no character development (at all), nothing. I've never read stories where the cop catches a suspect, they confess in 2 minutes, the end. These stories did nothing but annoy me.

Meet the Carnacki Institutes operatives. JC Chance: the team leader, brave, charming, and almost unbearably arrogant. Melody Chambers: the science geek who keeps the antisupernatural equipment running. And Happy Jack Palmer: the terminally gloomy telepath. Their mission: Do Something about Ghosts. Lay them to rest, send them packing, or just kick their nasty ectoplasmic arses.
The Ghost Finders are investigating a haunting at the long-abandoned Haybarn Theater, which is being renovated. But work has been thrown off-schedule by the some peculiar and unnatural activities. And after the potentially world-altering recent events of their previous assignment, the team thinks that a haunted theater (aren't they all?) will be a walk in the park.

    Classic Simon
Where does Ghost of a Dream rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I have listened to all of SRG's works and I think this is his best. It's his classic formula of an opening minidrama followed by a great mystery.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are more flushed out and human, while the classic horror is amped up several notches. You can see it unplay like a movie in your mind. He also ties it into many of his other series with character references.
What does Toby Leonard Moore bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He shifts wonderfully and fluidly between all of the accents of the UK. He is a pleasure to listen to.
If you could take any character from Ghost of a Dream out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Alester. He plays no less that 4 characters in the book and would be a dinner party in and of himself.
    Any additional comments?
Brain candy taken to a new fantasy level.
Best in the series so far.
Amazing addition to the story of the ghost finders. best book of the series so far as well. It reads like it would be the perfect movie
very disappointing to a Simon R Green fan
What disappointed you about Ghost of a Dream?
It was the only time I have ever applied the word "boring" to one of Green's books. The dialog was repetetive, the story seemed rather dull compared to some of his other works, and I just couldn't get into it. The narrator was good, I enjoy the accents of the characters... but in this book that was about the only thing I enjoyed. I quickly tired of the heavy footsteps with nobody there and the people who turned out to be ghosts much to the surprise of the ghostfinder team (I wasn't a bit surprised).
What could Simon R. Green have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I don't know what would have improved the book for me... It just wasn't to my taste. I think I'll stick to other series by this author, as this is the second book of this series that has let me down in my expectations of his works. I tried this one as a "second chance" for the series... back to Eddie Drood and the infamous wild witch of the forest for me!
Pass. I'm a fan of Simon but this was dull.
I have no idea what this was about. I tried to restart it but it was so boring my mind wandered.

A golden time - that's what Chris Anderson, his brother Aaron, and their friends expected of that final summer. Freedom, and lazy, pleasure-filled days before the responsibilities of college and career. An idyll in their newfound private place on the shores of three small lakes.
But Tri-Lakes is no oasis. A millennium ago it became the focal point of a powerfully malevolent force, and the remnants of an ancient Viking bloodfeud.
    Hatred is its source.

    Twilight of the Gods
Brian Hodge's Oasis is the story of an ancient blood feud between Viking chiefs, one who worships the old gods, and the other who has been converted to Christianity. But that's far in the background, for 3/4 of the book we are treated to an idyllic story of teens coming of age in the Midwest, yearning to discover their adulthoods. This first part of the book reminded me of Summer of Night or Stand By Me, a heartfelt tale of true friendship and bonding in late adolescence. I enjoyed the characters, who were vivid and distinct. Paul Heitsch's narration provides distinction between the characters so that I was never confused about who was speaking. The narration is musical and coherent, which allowed me to see the story played out in my mind's eye, this the experience I want from an audiobook.
What could have been a potboiler, contemporary fantasy, turned out to pack an emotional punch I was not expecting. So the book stayed with me long after the last chapter ended. This is not Raiders of the Lost Runestone. It displays a keen literary talent, though the story drags somewhat in the middle of the book, when only a few flourishes of the evil awaiting the heroes are shown. It doesn't build like a horror/thriller, but the ending is spectacularly fiery. I recommend this book highly.
The title seems odd and doesn't compliment the contents of the story.
    Wow-Not what I expectex
Where does Oasis rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Almost everything. There were a few times I really wanted to change a character decision for then. A lot of this book is focused on the summer before freshman college and has a lot of the all American teenager in it. (Male lead characters, but as a female, the shorty also speaks to me.) The supernatural is a big part of it, but it is much more than just a ghost story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Oasis?
The last chapter with Aaron, where he and Will d
    Which scene was your favorite?
I liked the realism of the family Thanksgiving gathering. It wasn't hallmark, it was real life.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, if I had found the time.
    Any additional comments?
I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this book. I like to read all kinds of genres however and so took the chance. I certainly don't regret it. Highly recommend.
    Wonderful!!
FIRST OF ALL, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE STORY AND THE PERFORMANCE FROM THE NARRATOR PAUL HEITSCH!

    Publisher's Summary:
Little Reds Tango incorporates a vampire story, miracle legends, a saints legend, an epistle, beatitudes, and jazz minutiae within a contemporary faux-gospel.
Lapland, or Film Noir is a journey to a place of the dark, paranoid crime movies made in Los Angeles between 1948 and 1956, which Straub calls one of the most compelling periods in American film history.
The Geezers is a fascinating exercise in withholding everything that might explain what the protagonists and their friends were up to, and describing instead their reactions to the consequences of the unstated actions. It is Straub at his best.
Donald Duck is a surreal study of how a family can be changed irrevocably by the decisions of one reckless member.
The final tale, Mr. Aickmans Air Rifle reveals itself in clever homage as Straub deliberately assumes the mantle of a great and respected elder, with felonious intentions.

    Release date: 06-26-12
    Publisher: Belle Books, Inc.
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 31 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Horror
    Publisher's Summary:
Kathleen McKenna's explosive third novel, The Wedding Gift, excels in so many categories it defies them all. It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern-states mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent, and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery - why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that "justice....just is not", then this will have you frothing at the mouth with righteous social fury.
Add to that the vision of two exceptionally beautiful girls lying on a landing stage in the middle of a secluded lake, sleeping naked in the sun...and then see if you can find any consecutive 10 minutes in this book when you don't at least snicker at the heroine Leeann's sly, caustic, sometimes-knowing sometimes "too stupid to live" commentary.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
When this first started I had second thoughts but it didn't take long til I LOVED it!!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding Gift?
    the murders
What about Leslie Naramores performance did you like?
at first I wasn't sure about her but she really fit the teen voice
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    the lake
    Any additional comments?
I do not review many books but this one deserved it - I just wish it had been longer but it was a great twisted story to listen to, not many catch me off guard but this one did.
    LOVED IT....
Where does The Wedding Gift rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I was totally blown away with this book, loved the story and how the Leslie told the story...I laughed, cringed too. The book grabs u right away, worth every credit....
    Painful
I want to be fair about this review, because I only managed to get through the first hour or two. Then I had to stop.
I found the narrator unbearable. But to be fair, she's reading a first person POV narrative of an equally unbearable character. Perhaps I found it harder because I'm not American, and I'm not used to certain very strong southern accents. Maybe it was just because I found the protagonist completely alienating: she's a very stupid, self-obsessed and shallow young girl.
The meat of the horror might have been great, but I couldn't make it that far. It's rare that I give up on an audiobook.
My strong recommendation is that you have a listen to the sample before you purchase this, and if the narrator doesn't bother you, you might give it a try.
    The Worst Book on Audible?
I think this was meant to be a comic, tongue-in-cheek poke at vacuous, pretty, white trash teenage girls. The narrator and main character-the most unsympathetic, unlikeable 'person' ever to rell a story. I liked the main characters in Gone Girl and The Woman on the Train more. I laughed out loud so many times. This is like 'Dallas' if the poor teen cousin had told the story. What a soap opera! I like stories with social class issues and in a way I kind of found it to be a guilty pleasure. Oh. There is a ghost too-a Pam and Bobby kind of Dallas back story-but this is NOT a haunted house novel so much as a redneck drama of the most laughable kind.

This collection of short stories contains several gothic tales to bear macabre and chilling witness to writers as diverse as Rudyard Kipling, Guy De Maupassant, Edgar Allan Poe, Arnold Bennett, Daniel Defoe, Edith Nesbit and M.R. These stories are read for you by readers including Ian Holm, Bill Wallis, Ghizela Rowe, and Richard Mitchley.

A Good Selection of Classic Horror!
I really enjoyed this selection of stories! As a lover of classic horror and ghost stories, these really fit the bill. The stories that particularly stand out are The Horla, In the Dark, and A Warning to the Curious. Ian Holm gives an outstanding performance in The Horla, the best I have heard so far! The only complaint I have is that in a few of the stories you can hear something of a pre-reading, like somebody is whispering the story a second or two ahead of the narrator. It didn't bother me that much, and this audiobook is highly recommended!
    Classic Chills
Like most classic tales, these adventures in Goth Land are understated and elegant.
Old favourites like "The Tell-Tale Heart" always stir the edges of the soul; our superb reader conveys to perfection the unreliability of the homicidal narrator. (No credit is given but I assume that it is the inimitable Bill Wallis who reads this selection)
Some of the stories in the collection are dated, an unavoidable drawback when delving deep into the past for a 21st century audience, but even these wrinkly tales retain a period charm. All in all, a suitably chilling way to pass an hour or two.
    I enjoyed these bunches!
I love old Gothic horror stories and these were a delight to listen to. I'll re-listen to them many times.

Rock 'n' Roll. Hell. Two great tastes that taste great together. Long before Elvis gyrated on the Sullivan Show or the Beatles toiled the smoky red-light bars of Hamburg, music has been sowing the seeds of liberation. Or damnation. With each new generation the edge of rebellion pushed farther. Rhythms quickened. Volume increased. Lyrics coarsened. The rules continued to be broken, until it seemed that there were no rules at all.
And as waves of teens cranked it up and poured it on, parents built walls of accusation to explain their offspring's seeming corruption. Sex and drugs, demon worship and violence are the effects. Music is the cause. Or so the self-styled guardians of morality would have us believe.
Meet The Scream. Just your average everyday mega-cult band. Their music is otherworldly. Their words are disturbing. Their message is unholy. Their fans are legion. And they're not kidding. They're killing. Themselves. Each other. Everyone. Their gospel screams from the lips of babes. Their backbeat has a body count. And their encore is just the warm-up act to madness beyond belief.
It emerged from a war-torn jungle, where insanity was just another word for survival. It arrived in America with an insatiable lust for power and the means to fulfill it. In the amplified roar of arena applause there beats the heart of absolute darkness.

    Good book -- TERRIBLE NARRATION
    Any additional comments?
If you Craig Spector and John Skipps other two novels on Audible, you know theyre REALLY good writing horror. I couldnt download The Scream fast enough based on their other work. And I was not disappointed by their inventiveness, depth of character and general achievement that would have this book up in Stephen Kings best work if this had his name on it. Im still surprised I hadnt heard these guys much sooner.
So when I saw the other Audible review sinking this books score due to bad narration, it kind of annoyed me. Because I see bad scores all the time for narration that is not really bad at all. The people in my life I try to get to try Audible always complain how they cant get used to so and sos voice, etc. It seems infantile to me. So I figured it was that kind of sitch.
No. No way. I was wrong. Ive heard bad narration like this on a few other books. I can get to a point where I ignore his voice after a while and just follow the story. It takes a level of meditation that isnt easy, haha. Dufris seems to be channeling a 90s style of narration I heard from Ron McLarty on Black Sunday, like this weird breathy delivery that seems like its meant to recall an old folktale via an ominous dream. Here it goes all over the place in parts reminding me of McLarty and later Jeff Gurner from Whiplash River performance where he goes from sounding like a movie trailer voice to game show host. Man I hated that performance.
Dufris engages the story like your little brother trying to be scary on Halloween. It was like reading a book in that green monster font that nobody takes seriously. The voice always on the verge of muah-ha-ha-ha! But then it changes later depending on the character, but always going for the most cliche, cardboard version possible.
Did the audiobooks director tell Dubfris to suck on purpose?? Hell, a book about a rock band called The Scream? These idiots will buy anything! Just sell the mood, Dufris and Ill be back in a few hours.

wtf a zombie assassin? yes, but much more!
    Any additional comments?
wow! 2 great zombie books in a row! hissers and the return man. i know i'm supposed to be reviewing the return man, but i'm pumped having just listened to 2 great zombie books in a row! i thought i'd listened to all the best zombie books on audible, BUT I WAS WRONG!
ok...don't let the title throw you. the return man is a story about henry marko. the story picks up 4 years after the zombie outbreak. marko is "the return man." he is a zombie assassin. yes, that may sound hokey, but give me a second.
before the zombie apocylapse, marko was a neurologist. he has developed a theory that helps him track down where zombies might be so he can "return" them to being dead. his theory is known as emotional geography. marko realizes the zombies tend to go places where they have emotional contacts. this aids him in finding the zombies he's contracted to "return" to the dead
everything west of the mississippi river has been abandoned. marko lives in the unprotected part of america. he is a contractor. people living in the safe states (protected zone) contract him to find their loved ones. if they've become zombies, he is contracted to "return" them to being dead so their survivors can get a sense of closure and start over. marko is also looking for his wife, to "return" her. he has tricked out his house with barricades and traps. he hopes to trap his wife so he can "return" her.
the story starts out with marko working on the rourke contract. marko is looking for joan's husband. after the contract is fulfilled he contacts ben, his contact and brother-in-law in the safe states that finds him clients. during that conversation, a guy named osbourne breaks in, revealing himself to be in the room with ben. osbourne threatens and forces marko to return to california to "return" a friend and former colleague, dr. roger ballard.
osbourne shows marko a video of dr. ballard's last location, a prison, where he is seen leaping off a catwalk to escape a horde of zombie prisoners. osbourne wants marko to return to this prison to "return" the good doctor to the dead. to help marko accomplish his task, osbourne sends a resurrection group to aid him. along the trek west, marko is joined by sgt. wu, who has his own motivations. together, they battle zombies and the four horseman, a large group of survivors who control california and have ties with drug dealers and the u.s.
