This story was okay, a little graphic and gross, but overall not too bad. I've heard stories like this before, but never this version. Moral if the story? Use your GPS and be careful who you seek help from.

Read all the multi-packs and shorts packs long ago, since 2012. The author has gotten better with age/practice. I've read almost all of the Cooper stories (1 - 230) and several of Mr. Bernico's short stories and most have not disappointed me. You'll find some poorly written or predictable stories, but for the most part they are fair to good. The Cooper series are better, but there's a few stinkers, too. They're great for a coffee break or a few minutes to relax.

As the description says, "This ain't no Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie." Alan Stone shivered as he walked his beat. It was beginning to snow as he made his third trip around his twelve block territory, checking doorknobs at the stores on Main Street that were already closed for the night. Usually there were crowds of people shopping, but tonight it was quiet - almost too quiet. Everyone must be staying home around the fire, safe and warm.

At the end of Main Street, Stone turned north onto Sycamore and walked toward the railroad bridge at the edge of town. His beat took him around the back of the stores and then back onto Main Street. But something caught his eye near the bridge. He stared for a moment, waiting for movement. It was a man perched on the railing of the bridge.

However, unlike the movie, Alan Stone was not an angel. "John" is no George Bailey. And this is not a "wonderful life". But poor Alan does not know this. And being the good guy that he is, he does the right thing and tries to talk John out of jumping. After all, he is a cop, and it is Christmas. Two good reasons to prevent a suicide.

But as the description also says, "Sometimes it's better to just mind your own business." Because things don't always work out the way you hoped they would. Although I saw the end coming, I was hoping I was wrong.

Grabs you and won't let go!!

What a dark and absorbing production - I loved it!! Roland Yeoman's novel poses a frightening scenario - the concept of intelligent red blood cells turning against mankind. As Narrator, Hubert Williams' powerful character voice adds the perfect chilling mood to this thriller. Truly gave me chills!!

Twilight Zone meets the X-Files...

What did you like best about this story?

Set in the already "squeamish" world of blood donating, BLOOD WILL TELL takes the listener through the adventure of facing one of humanity's greatest fears: being alone. What I enjoyed most about this story, though, is that, through the great writing and fantastic narration, the reader is able to get a glimpse both into the mind of main character, who is a telepath, those around him, and the 'invader,' who appears to him the guise of a rather seductive woman. Will he be able to free the rest of humanity from the invader? Will her feminine wiles win him over? I was surprised at just how much this rather short story scared me and vastly entertained me all at the same time.

What about Hubert Williamss performance did you like?

Hubert Williams did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of a small-town Southern guy, trying to avoid any real connections with people as he makes his way through life as a telepath. I found myself literally laughing out loud at his characterizations several times, even though the story was rather suspenseful most of the time. My favorite aspect of this particular performance was the audio effects used to depict the 'inner dialogue' the main character would 'overhear' in his role as a telepath. The slightly 'reverberated' effect wasn't distracted but greatly added to the eeriness of the moment. Wonderful, subtle effect for this piece.

Dark and Compelling

Broken Angel grabbed me from the very beginning. It opens by setting up the dark and compelling mystery that pulled me through the entire book. From there flows a rich story full of realistic characters and horrific events that create a rollercoaster of tension and emotion.

Brian Knightâs writing style creates a realism that makes you want to throttle him on occasion. You want a little story book style magical good thing happening inserted in there somewhere, but he gives you only the unsettling true-to-nature responses that people have in horrific situations, the murphyâs law frustration that we all experience in real life, the dangerous close-minded attitudes produced by fear. And, of course, horror perpetuating horror.

The dark mystery of Broken Angel pulls you through this page-turner right up to the sucker punch ending. No spoilers here, just an assurance that this is a must for horror fans. It has it all: supernatural suspense, mystery, graphic horror, psychological horror. It spans the spectrum of horror subgenres.

This is a re-release, so if you missed it before, here is your second chance to be properly horrified by a very talented and twisted writer. Reminiscent of very early Stephen King stories, Broken Angel by Brian Knight belongs in your collection. It is officially shelf worthy.

Excellent Novel

The thing that I think really sets this book apart are its characters. They are so three-dimensional and authentic that it's easy to suspend your disbelief. I even fell in love with one or two of them. And when you care about characters so deeply, you are truly invested in what happens to them. First rate storytelling.

Brian Knight, Broken Angel (Delirium, 2007)

Like many obsessive bookies, I have a tendency to keep lists. On one of them I jot down titles that I hear about that sound great, but that I can't yet find at Amazon. Way back in 2004, I first heard buzz about a book called Broken Angel, by a chap I'd never heard of called Brian Knight. It sounded fantastic, and it was the book with which I began keeping that particular list. Here it is five years later, and my library picked up copies. (In fact, they picked up as many copies as they do of successful midlist authors--twenty-five. Kudos to Mr. Knight.) The book has had five years to stew in the back of my head, and as usual with such things, by the time I got my hands on it, I figured it was probably the best thing since sliced bread. It's not, and if I make the attempt to divorce the lionization I gave it over the years from the thing itself, it's quite a good little book.

Grim is your typical seventeen-year-old troublemaker. Actually, he's not.
