Very Good Regional Missing Person Mystery
Would you listen to A Ghostly Tale in Taylors Falls: The Livery Box again? Why?
Yes, I definitely would. The story takes place in the Taylor's Falls area. It includes many accurate regional details which are fun for local people like myself to hear.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The mystery is well-written and builds a crescendo of suspense. It is not possible to predict the resolution of the mystery until the details are slowly unfolded. The characters are engaging and their plight is gripping.
What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His voice perfectly captures the rural Midwest accent and manner of speech which is vital to this story. He gave an excellent performance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I listened to it while doing some spring cleaning. At approximately 3 hrs. in length, it was perfect for my purposes.
    Any additional comments?
This is a clean, family friendly novel. It is an engrossing tale with a satisfying ending.

    Length: 8 hrs

    Publisher: Horizon Micro Publishing, LLC
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Amidst racial divisions in 1964 Chicago, Mike receives an anonymous note with a 1934 $10,000 Federal Reserve Note and a cryptic message that the bill is payment for unspecified future trouble. Tracking down the sender spins into a 40-year-old kidnapping case involving four US Army officers in World War I, stolen gold with connections to the French Bonnot gang (the first to use autos in bank robberies), a Babylonian sex goddess cult, and trouble from Henry Ford's grandson. Death and lust stalk Mike and Rick on this one, and threatens their client, who becomes the sacrificial sex object of the cult.
You'll find murder, action, suspense, and the typical quicksand that is Mike's struggle about love and commitment to Molly in this the fifth volume of the Mike Angel Mystery series of complex, historical, and erotic novels.
Warning: This is a noir novel complete with sarcastic humor back when PC wasn't eroding logic. If you find yourself laughing occasionally, that's okay. It's not a comedy.

    Darkest of the Dark
Iâve read the previous entries in the Mike Angel series, though they all can be read as standalone novels, this is the darkest of the Dark. The twisted minds of contemporaries of the Bonnot Gang, its one surviving member, plus a depraved sex cult fostered by greed and privilege combine for another compelling read in this excellent series. The henchman by proxy of the ubiquitous Mayor Daley once again work against Mike and Rick as they try to solve an obvious case of arson help to round out the plot of this historical noir thriller.
The characters here are flesh on paper, with very human frailties that push this great read to its twisted climax. Mike once again is waylaid, pun intended, by a healthy pair of lungs and a smooth pair of gams. Mike and Mollyâs relationship is a backdrop reminiscent of other investigative pairs that kept us wondering, âWill they or wonât theyâ, while Mike continues to push his luck in the romance department.
The villains ratchet up the depravity here; the sex is a bit more graphic from our hero and his foes, which adds a bit more spice to an already peppery plot.
This series is not for faint of the heart or those who think political correctness is a must. This is a period novel that brings the era to life in living color, warts and all. Well done.
    A CHALLENGING MYSTERYY
There are lots of twists and turns in this novel. Again, Mike bulls his way into solving a most unusual case. A lot of sexual over tones and not for the weak kneed reader.
    Excellent
I've read a lot of books and I'm writing some of my own but David Fears is a really good writer, has a lot of imagination and puts it all to use to make his books perfect.

    Go further into the conspiracy....
Candle thought it was over. Back to the status quo. That's why, when a letter appears in his mailbox from someone he thought was dead, he's dragged back into the middle of the whole mess.
He'll have to scurry down to Texas to save the life of a man he doesn't even know, because if he doesn't, his wife and unborn child will again become targets.
The mystery spurring his quest grows deeper because everyone involved seems to be wearing a false face. And his supposedly benevolent employers keep pushing him further and further from the truth. Their ulterior motives have to be at the heart of this mess, but can Candle find out why?
The clock ticks mercilessly on as he hurries toward the Mexican border, all while trying to puzzle the reasons why he's been singled-out and what's driving all this death and destruction.
This second novella in the trilogy combines the action-packed chase thriller style with an amateur sleuth mystery, all told through protagonist Tucker Candle's unique and funny voice.

GREAT 2ND BOOK!! ON TO #3!!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Legend of Kareem to be better than the print version?
I always think audio is best!!
What did you like best about this story?
All of it!! And Candle is awesome!!! Great Narration also!!
What does William Coon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He is super good..he Became Candle for me....I couldn't imagine him any other way now!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did pretty much...lol and am listening to 3 now!
    Any additional comments?
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
This book flew by for me...before I knew it, it was over.and I was like..WOW that was quick! I was super involved! Book 2 picks up where book 1 leaves off..Candle has rescued his wife...and things appear to be back to normal...and when Candle finds out his dad passed away, he has to make a trip to Texas again to settle his estate...before he goes he gets a mysterious letter from the passed away Kareem...asking him to protect his brother Omar...seems innocent right? Well everything goes crazy again causing poor Candle to have to run for his life and learning he works for a company that is super corrupt...and a family secret!!
Great Narration..and an awesome second book!!!
    An action packed sequel.
Once again we find Candle in some trouble! After the events of the last book, all Candle wants to do is settle down and forget everything. His wife is coming home and their baby is almost here. But it's Candle we are talking about!!! He always seems to fall into it unintentionally!!! When a letter from Kareem arrives telling Candle that he needs to save Kareems brother, he is ready to bin it, but it plays on his mind constantly. He ends up having to go to Texas anyway so decides to drop by and see this guy, what's the harm?? Right!! Wrong, Candle once again finds himself caught up in the action and on the run from some trigger happy people!
There isn't much more I can say about the plot because with it being such a short story, I'll inadvertently spoil something, so all I'll say is that we get a few answers, more questions, plenty of action and adventure, more characters, more twists and turns and pretty much more of everything in this one.

    Fantastic!
Fortune Cookie is by far Tom's greatest work to date. All of his books are great but this exceeds the others.
The characters have so much depth and the story line is thrilling! If you like suspense thrillers, this is the book to get. It takes you on a thrill ride through the seedy underbelly of the Chinese Triad gangsters.
From a simple fortune cookie, John Nelson gets caught up in their world and could find no way out.
    The ending will surprise you!
    Fantastic job, Tom!

In all seriousness, this book has it all. From bible prophecy to the fed, and the tri-lateral commission, every right-wing, Christian fundamentalist rant out there. All wrapped around an implausible plot with cardboard cut-out characters. If you are in that mindset, go for it. If not, at least you can return the book.

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Modern Waste is a thrilling adventure of deception, murder, and corruption in a small town in north Georgia. The town's gangs and old families control the county and its police. A rival from another town is taking over, and war is breaking out. As the title suggests, the book is filled with lives thrown away and futures desecrated. This is about part of modern society that is often lost, people that live in the middle. They are on the fringe, between lawlessness and legitimacy.
    Members Reviews:
    Fast-Paced and Intense
If you're looking for black and white crime fiction dripping with romanticism look elsewhere. "Modern Waste" is set in the backwoods of North Georgia far removed from the comfort and sterility of the suburbs, in a world both more genuine and more disturbing than the overstimulated non-stop race to nowhere of modern life. It's set in places where many people are only a generation removed from honest work that's now in short supply and drugs are a perfect solution for the bored and the broke. It's about a reality where doing the right thing requires doing the wrong things. I liked how the action kept flowing with just enough detail to draw me into their world and left me yearning for more.
Beautiful, Violent, Sad, and Just Great!
"Modern Waste" is a dark and intelligent thriller that captures the reader's attention right from the start and keeps it all of the way through the book. The story while riddled with sadness, never drags and does not rely on cliches and predictable plot devices. This is a character driven tale and the characters are the standout. From Vince, a drug kingpin to the members of a rival drug organization to the corrupt local law, every character that graces these pages is fully developed and has a purpose to advance the story. If you are a fan of the gritty crime stories by Elmore Leonard, especially "Fire In The Hole" which spawned the TV series Justified, you will love this story. "Modern Waste" is just as entertaining, but is much more elegiac, serving as a funeral song for an area and its residents seemingly forgotten by the rest of world.
Grit your teeth and inhale the smoke of Modern Waste!
I couldn't help but feel like I knew the narrator as I consumed the pages. Even more eerily, I felt like he really knew me. If you're a delicate Lilly living in denial then you're in the wrong place. If you've forgotten to pick the kids up from school because you were caught in the throes of a good plot then call your Mema and tell her what time they get out, because you're headed to Rome Georgia and like many others before, you won't be returning directly.
The storyline Is engrossing as are the characters.
The story is action packed. The characters raw. Good vs. evil vs. good vs. evil. Sadly, very relatable to today's news headlines with drugs at the forefront. Not something I typically read but found myself actually intrigued by the bold characters that made a life and a living fighting crime with crime. I look forward to more from this author.
    A real page turner.
Drugs and corruption is what you can find in this book by Marc D. Crepeaux. The writer does a great job creating this world full of illegal activity.
