    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 36 mins
    Language: English

    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
Veronica Mars meets William Shakespeare in E. K. Johnston's latest brave and unforgettable heroine.
Hermione Winters is captain of her cheerleading team, and in tiny Palermo Heights, this doesn't mean what you think it means. At PHHS, the cheerleaders don't cheer for the sports teams; they are the sports team - the pride and joy of a tiny town. The team's summer training camp is Hermione's last and marks the beginning of the end of...she's not sure what. She does know this season could make her a legend. But during a camp party, someone slips something in her drink. And it all goes black.
In every class there's a star cheerleader and a pariah pregnant girl. They're never supposed to be the same person. Hermione struggles to regain the control she's always had and faces a wrenching decision about how to move on. The assault wasn't the beginning of Hermione Winter's story, and she's not going to let it be the end. She won't be anyone's cautionary tale.
    Critic Reviews:
"Johnston's clever - but never precious - update of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale is unflinching but not at all graphic in its treatment of sexual violence.... Middle and high school readers will pass this powerful, engaging story around and around." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Fierce and gorgeously drawn, this is a rape story that doesn't focus on victimhood." (Booklist)
"A beautifully written portrait of a young woman facing the unthinkable, this is a must-buy for high school collections." (SLJ)

An interesting change in a YA novel
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in YA novels or in feminist literature. This is one of the few book I have ever read that dealt with rape in such a 'in your face' way. In most books, the person who is raped takes on a victim's mentality, which is understandable. However, in this book, the protagonist moves through the stages of grief to take control of her body and life. I wanted to cheer for the girl. She was strong without losing her humanity. I would wholeheartedly recommend this audio edition.
What other book might you compare Exit, Pursued by a Bear to and why?
I think that is some ways this book felt like a modern Judy Blume.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When I finished the book, I actually wanted to clap for the author and the narrator. The author did such a good job bringing the protagonist to life. I loved that the girl was strong and still humane to herself. Without spoiling the ending, I was surprised at what Hermione decided to do and why.
    Difficult topic excellently done
This book was recommended to me and I'm glad I read it, but it was difficult to start. I knew the main character was going to get hurt and I didn't want it to happen. I am impressed how the author handled the topic and how well thought out the characters are. I haven't been through something as terrible as what happened, but in trying to work toward a big goal of mine, I was defrauded out of a large portion of my savings. I could relate to the loss of trust and the pain of reliving the crime to help with the investigation.

"A Da Vinci Code-style thriller for teens? Yes please." (TeenVogue.com)

    Light Intrigue
The story revolves around the conflict between two groups with inherited world power dating back to Alexander the Great. Sufficient intrigue to make an interesting story with some undertones of romance. Well narrated by Julia Whelan.
    Another book?!?
Ok I liked this book more than I thought I would. At first it just seemed like a da Vinci code type book and it is but it's a lot more than that!! I love books with lots of layers and this one certainly has tons! I don't want to give away any spoilers! But I will say this I stayed up till four in the morning listening to this book and finished in less than one day. Although it was kind of predictable who she ended up with at the very end. But anyway I absolutely love Julia Whalen's voice! She narrated another series that I absolutely love the Partials!
    think this was a mistake
My mistake anyway. I read book 2 without reading book 1 first. this is a series where it matters. I might be more invested in the characters with a better introduction and development. also, I think this might be YA and I am not. for a YA this is a pretty good listen. narrator is very good.
I'm so addicted to this series!
I have to wait HOW long for the next book!? I made the mistake (or smart choice, depending on how you look at it) to binge the first two books. I was looking for a new audiobook and I was totally in the mood for an international thriller and this series was totally it. I really got into the books, I LOVE the characters, and I LOVE the crew thing they have going on. It's sort of like The DaVinci Code (not the YA DaVinci Code....... ahem) in the sense that it has clues, powerful families, politics, intrigue, danger, and more.
I really, really loved where this book took things. I did wish for just a little bit more explanation once we found out what the Union really meant (after so many theories) BUT I'm sure we'll find out more history and science and whatnot in the third book. I love the complicated relationships and everything that those entail (familial, platonic, and romantic).
    excellent read
So well performed, and a wonderful continuation of the story. can't wait to listen to the third book!

    Hunting for a gold mine
Looking for a change of pace ? This is a pretty decent Western, featuring a rather tough teenage girl out to avenge her father's murder. Similarities to "True Grit" end there. Good narration captures the colloquial speech patterns.
Great western tale with a wonderful cowboy heroine
Vengeance Road is a really fun read. The language and history referenced make the story feel very authentic. The western culture comes to life from the books rich detail and colorful characters.
    Highly recommend!!
    Vengeance Road
Probably one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. The narrator did an excellent job with the accent and western vernacular that it made it really fun to listen to!
    Disappointing narrator...
The narrator was just average. But perhaps I've been spoiled by my last few listens. A few voices sounded the same.. Especially the male voices.
    Definitely a YA Story
Action packed, fast paced story with gutsy characters and a fairly believable plot line. A little simplistic as far as Kate , Will and Jesse's ability to withstand gunshot and knife wounds, a dust storm , lack of food and water and the Rose gang. I would not consider this to be a book that extends much beyond a YA audience. Just a warning for the older crowd.

    Title: Radioactive!
Subtitle: How Irene Curie and Lise Meitner Revolutionized Science and Changed the World
    Author: Winifred Conkling
    Narrator: Andrea Gallo
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-05-16
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
The fascinating, little-known story of how two brilliant female physicists' groundbreaking discoveries led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
In 1934, Irene Curie, working with her husband and fellow scientist, Frederic Joliot, made a discovery that would change the world: artificial radioactivity. This breakthrough allowed scientists to modify elements and create new ones by altering the structure of atoms. Curie shared a Nobel Prize with her husband for their work. But when she was nominated to the French Academy of Sciences, the academy denied her admission and voted to disqualify all women from membership.
Four years later, Curie's breakthrough led physicist Lise Meitner to a brilliant leap of understanding that unlocked the secret of nuclear fission. Meitner's unique insight was critical to the revolution in science that led to nuclear energy and the race to build the atom bomb, yet her achievement was left unrecognized by the Nobel committee in favor of that of her male colleague.
Radioactive! presents the story of two women breaking ground in a male-dominated field, scientists still largely unknown despite their crucial contributions to cutting-edge research, in a nonfiction narrative that reads with the suspense of a thriller.
    Members Reviews:
    Praise for Radioactive!
I see why this book received the 2017 notable science trade book award from the NSTA. At first I was a little apprehensive to read this book because I had to do it as make up work for an assignment in one of my education classes. But as I read and followed along with the narration I enjoyed the book and all the little things in it like the start of chemotherapy, the names of notable scientists that we know today, find out that the son of Max Planck was apart of Operation Valkyrie, and many other cool historical tidbits. I would totally recommend this book.
    Young Adult book
    Any additional comments?
The description sounded interesting, but I was fooled because it does not say this is a "young adult" book. The stories were fine, and I learned some new things, but I kept having the feeling the author and narrator thought I was in the 8th grade-- and then I figured out why. This may be a nice resource for young kids

    Publisher's Summary:
Everyone has secrets. Everyone is a secret.
Parker Grant is a junior in high school who loves to run, has great friends, and isn't afraid to speak her mind - especially when it comes to how stupid some people can be around a blind person like her. The only topic to avoid is how Parker feels about the boy who broke her heart in eighth grade...who has just transferred to her school. And as long as she can keep giving herself gold stars for every day she hasn't cried since her dad's death three months ago, she'll be just fine. Right?
Combining a fiercely engaging voice with true heart, debut author Eric Lindstrom's Not If I See You First sheds light on the metaphorical blind spots that are a part of life, whether you're visually impaired or not.
    Members Reviews:
    Great except for the language.
Love everything about the book except the author dropped the "F" bomb. Totally unnecessary. I don't anyone that uses that word in daily language. I don't understand why authors use it so liberally.
    A Terrific Book
Whenever I pick up a book particularly a novel knowing one of the main characters is blind, I approach it with equal parts dread and optimism. Optimism because without that I wouldnt bother reading the book at all; dread because so many depictions of us include such inaccurate tropes as superhero with mystical extrasensory powers or severely incapable infantalized adult. Though Young-adult fiction hasnt been one of my preferred genres in a very long time, Eric Lindstrom (the author of this book) and a few other authors might change that in short order.
Its been more than fifteen years since I was the age of Parker Grant, the main character in Eric Lindstroms novel published late last year. Then how is it possible that I see so much of myself in her? Part of it is her in-your-face attitude; the other part is her bravado that masks a deep sense of insecurity. This has been me. This is me. Oh, and did I mention she runs, too?
The narrator of the audio edition, Lauren Fortgang, became Parker Grant. Her voices for the supporting cast were distinct and memorable, even if not always pitch-perfect and pleasing (hey, not all people have pleasant voices, either).
Parker Grant. The take-no-prisoners, hands-off, say-what-she-thinks main character of this book. Shes book-smart, fiercely independent (she runs alone every morning at 6:00AM), and doesnt give two hoots about what anyone says or thinks about her. Around her is a small group of friends who love her for who she is, even if shes emotionally distant to them and can be incredibly self-absorbed. Even though some of the specifics were different between me growing up (and maybe even now) and Parker Grant, it was like Mr. Lindstrom held up a mirror in front of my face, with the reflection screaming at me THIS IS YOU!
For the most part Lindstrom shies away from tropes for Parker. It became important to him for Parker to have no vision a common trope for blind characters for a variety of reasons, primarily for her to misunderstand or simply not consider visual nuance. Even Parkers fierce independence is in line with her as a risk-taker because thats who she would have been, blind or not. She also evidences insecurities about herself in small ways not wanting to eat messy foods like lasagna in front of a date.

Thought provoking and a little too real
Isn't this the fear we all have today? Look how easy the California killer found it to convince his weak minded friend.
    Action Packed
An excellent fast-paced novel that is different from other novels I've listened to. I highly recommend it.
    Good story, pedantic at times
While I really got into the story, every once in a while I found myself getting annoyed by the pedantic tone of the book. Social media are dangerous and teenagers do not know what they really need, the message seems to be. Leaving out that message would have made for a much better read (and may have gotten readers thinking instead of just rolling their eyes at the abundance of references to 'the dangerous world wide web'). However, I liked the set-up of the book and still found Need a good read.

A murdered teen is resurrected to walk the Earth for centuries in this sweeping historical epic in the spirit of The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, from the author of Rotters and Scowler.
Twenty minutes after his murder on the shores of Lake Michigan in 1896, 17-year-old Zebulon Finch awakens, resurrected to suffer an eternity upon the planet. But of all people...why him?
Is it because he was a violent Chicago gangster and this is his chance at redemption?
Is it because he is a modern-day Job whose suffering is beyond human comprehension?
Over the next century - or two - he will try to find out. With a sly, aristocratic voice and a healthy appetite for women and anarchy, Zebulon Finch spins a tale of his travels across a young America, watching the country grow and mature, knowing that his mind and body will never do the same.
Yes, he is witty. He is also vain. Absolutely brilliant, too. And he is always entertaining. But have no doubt - Zebulon Finch has a heart as vulnerable as anyone's. Too bad he doesn't learn to use it till after it has stopped beating....

    Great story lnes
You were never really sure where the story would go next but you knew you wanted to be there when it happened.
    Amazing and Original
Among the most unique, imaginative, epic, darkly humorous books I've ever read. Great narrator too. Moving on to the second book immediately.
Hothead teen zombie captivates and revolts me
Expertly narrated sweeping tale of a hothead teenage boy who returns from the dead and shares his deprivation, brutal honesty, and serious lapses in character. Finch is a most eloquent zombie, but I don't know if I'm up for volume two now or ever.
    Something really different
I really enjoyed this book. The story turns in many directions through a well-painted changing world. And the way the protagonist speaks! What an artfully crafted vocabulary. I cared about him even though he's no hero. I'm looking forward to book 2!
    Horrible
possibly the worst book and a horrible reader. don't waste your time on this book. it almost put me to sleep on the road a few times.
