My... God!

The ending of this series was perfect in every sense of the word! I STILL wish there were more follow up books to follow Miss. Angel and her sibs into adult hood! To learn more about Catherine. Not to mention Ms. Fortgang's performance is so much better than the last! Loved this book! 10/10... 5 stars! A def read!

Horrible narration, only slightly better writing

The first two books in the series were good. Not great, but entertaining. The kind of mindless listening that requires little to no attention. The third book changed narrators. The voice is so sultry and arrogant it is hard to remember this book is actually being told by a teenager. Lots of plot holes, for example, brother Matty's dread locks are referred to over and over, however he shaved his head in a previous book which took place only months earlier. Easy enough to overlook, but the inconsistency made it difficult not to eye roll through this one. Lack luster story made it feel as though a deadline from the editors snuck up on the writers, forcing them to throw something together and hope for the best. This lack of effort translates into a weak story line and chaotic shifts of focus. Save your money, don't buy this book.

I love James Patterson books and his one did not disappoint. Great addition to the series and very suspenseful. Glad to see a conclusion within this one and a bit more of an understanding about one of the main characters. All I kept thinking while listening was, this poor family :( each character has had great development throughout the series. I like that each character has equal involvement through the series. I hope there is another book in this line!

I enjoyed the between the stories information. I've really enjoyed the selection series and loved learning more about the characters. It really rounded out things nicely. Great addition in my opinion. I read this one before going on to the Heir.

This book is dark and disturbing. Very surprised it is on the sunshine state readers list for middle school.

It is the best book Ive ever read. Its so good I dont even dislike anything. I think they should make a movie about the book cause of how good it is.

Different Story

I found it strange but it is well written. I kept wondering about the mental health of Steve. However, there are people out there who will enjoy this more than I did so I'm not going to judge it harshly. It is well written.

Terrifying!

I like Julia Whelan's narration of female characters, but her male voices disturb me somewhat. I think I would prefer she just use a normal voice. Other than that, excellent sequel to Vivian Apple at the End of the World. The first book was scary to think that this could really happen here in America, but this one is terrifying.

What disappointed you about The Appearance of Annie van Sinderen?

Loooong periods of internal dialogue or first-person narrative with no tension or build of any kind, interspersed with oh-too-brief instants where something actually happens. I never felt that I was actually in the scene, just watching from afar (and falling asleep). There were far too many improbabilities in the story, and I don't mean the ghost. It's as if it's the sketch of a book that someone meant to go back in and develop at a later date.

What could Katherine Howe have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Take me into the smells and physical senses of the scene. Edit out the long stretches of scenes that seem to go nowhere (lots). Overlong scenes of one of the major characters wandering in the fog shouldn't be there. Annie, a gently bred young woman going alone in the streets of New York in the 1800s? That is not historically accurate. And the Annie character seems awfully dim, even for a ghost.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jesse Bernstein and Kathleen McInerney ?

Kathleen McInerney is an okay reader, given that she has dreadfully dull prose to read aloud.

I was trying to get a craft project done and wanted to listen to the book while I worked. It was so bad that I kept repeating, "Oh my God, kill me now." Fortunately, that didn't happen.

I enjoyed so much the Physik Book of Deliverance Dane, and hoped this one would be a good story. It wasn't.

Yes, probably. I'd wait until it'd been a long time since I last listened to it and I didn't have any books I had to listen to instead, but I might. It was fun!

Another Muchamore thriller for boys

I have bought all of the Cherub books for my grandson, who absolutely loved the stories. The latest series he couldn't wait to read and when I asked him how the book was, he told me now he knows how the Cherub's started. What I like about the latest book is that in addition to being a thriller, there is also factual info on World War 2. I highly recommend the book for boys.

11-15 love this series

This series of books tore through the neighborhood. We were so happy to get copies when we did because they were HOT and hard to find. Thanks Robert Muchamore for writing something my boy would read. They made him the BMI5G (Big Man in 5th grade). He was the go-to guy for the next installment as our libraries and bookstores didn't even have copies yet!

An enjoyable, if not tense listen

I really liked this book. The characters were memorable and the plot was both easy to follow and alarming with how stressed out I got listening to it. It's written in such a way that you totally believe this event could happen and because of that it makes you think more about where you are at with preparedness than you would think. She did an excellent job of tying all of it together and making even the smallest details work into the narrative. I can't wait to get the next one.

Survival tips

I was hooked from the very beginning. I love a book that teaches us some basic skills. The story was good, a bit gentler than I feel it would be if that scenerial ever happened.

Good story and characters

Overall, I enjoyed this story. Dee acts like a typical sullen teenager, who recently lost her younger brother. Her depressed parents leave her on her grandpa's farm while they take a cruise, then disaster strikes. I enjoyed Dee's development into a solid, likeable heroine who stepped up to responsibility. All the characters are believable and the story is well done. I loved all the survival tips and while there are Christian references throughout the story, it is never preachy. The narrator also did a wonderful job.

Lost interest half-way through

Would you try another book from Ellisa Barr and/or Kate Rudd?

I skipped to the next book that told the story of her parents. I found it much more interesting, but still not extraordinary.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most interesting is probably the neighbors bartering farm goods with farm work. The least interesting is sadly enough, Dee, the main character.

What aspect of Kate Rudds performance would you have changed?

The grandfather is portrayed in the performance as old and frail. When reading the same thing it doesn't come across that way.

Great Series

I loved it just like all the other books. I hope there is a sequel even though this is the last.

Again?

Amazon Prime isn't all it's supposed to be. Okay, I know that has nothing to do with the book at hand, but it affects how I felt as I went into it. You see, when you have Amazon Prime, you can have a family account. How exciting is that? That means we shouldn't have to replicate purchases. My husband has a normal amount of books in his Kindle collection. The Maximum Ride Forever was a part of it. I tried to borrow it.

Okay, let me back up here. I have a full public library's amount of Kindle books and I get more every day. With Prime, my poor husband was getting all my books onto his Fire carousel. So he called Amazon and they worked him through a couple fixes (two phone calls). He thought he had it fixed. But as of that moment, his copy of Maximum Ride Forever disappeared from my carousel with only 15% read. After much hassle, we decided to sign him into my Audible so I could listen to it on my tablet. Phooey with the book. So I spent my day listening to the story while I sewed. Not a bad way to read, huh?

Kasey Lee Huizinga does an amazing job as narrator for the story. She encompasses Max's attitude. She does all the characters with the acting skills that should be on Broadway. BUT...

I just wasn't thrilled with yet another Maximum Ride book that seemed the same as the last few. Boring! Even in the height of adventure, even with bad things happening left and right, it seemed the same story as last time and the time before. Sure, it was a distraction I was glad to put my non-sewing mind to. Still, I found myself calling out to the room, "Again?" I know. What do I want for a post-apocalyptic world that still had mutants in it? There were a couple surprises but I shall not place a spoiler here if you can read it and be as surprised as I was with each... bad or good surprises.

By the way, I think that listening to Maximum Ride is far better than reading it. Get the Audible version if you can. Just an FYI: the Kindle version is $9.99. Too high for me. But it does have text-to-speech. It may not be as much fun as with Kasey Lee Huizinga, but it could help the story go faster as you drive and listen.

Terrible Narrator. Weakest book in the series

Weakest book in the Maximum Ride series. One of the worst narrators I've encountered in an Audible book, the voices were very stilted, and even too old for the character, such as the voice she uses for Gazzy. Basically, most of the male voices sounded stiff and unnatural. And the story was scattered and poorly developed. The earlier books in the series are far better stories.

Welcome to the haven, monster files book 3

I LOVED all three of these books!!! Well written, compelling and unable to put them down!!! I would recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy. Cate Dean is an awesome writer whose books will all be in my library - and will be reread numerous times. Good reading!!!

Entertaining

Another excellent book in the series of the monster files. I especially enjoyed the link to the character Zach from the Claire Wiche series that I'd read previously, and which led me to read The Monster Files.

A Haven for Alex

Haven is not necessarily a haven for Alex. In this third book in the Monster Hunter series, Alex once again puts together the pieces that solve the puzzle. In this installment she realizes her life will never be normal again, and she is good with that! It's a little predictable, but the development of the character of Detective Joe is a nice addition, and I'm a sucker for a happy ending! A great read. I highly recommend the whole series.

Loved this series!

I was Leary when I started reading the first book, because it was the first in a supernatural pack. I kept an open mind, and half way through the first chapter I was hooked! I loved the adventures of Alex, Sam, Misty, Jake, and Candace. The adventures continued and the people add to those. There was giggles (yes giggles), tears, and sometimes even anger.

It's a must read for all age groups.
