    A Perfect Summer Listen!
This is the kind of book you read or listen to when you need a good laugh. In true Hiaasen fashion, the listener is introduced to a far out and crazy cast of characters who are put into truly absurd situations from beginning to end. Where else will you find a senior citizen group called the Mothers of Wilderness holding meetings at assisted living facilities to plot a scheme to steal the beloved Blue Tongued Mango Voles in an attempt to shut down the evil Amazing Kingdom?
Despite how improbable things get, try to be willing to take the ride all the way to the end. While laughing out loud you will get a lesson on environmentalism and come to love this crazy bunch of outcasts. To truly enjoy this, and any Hiaasen book, you have to just go with it. Its a kind of a literary guilty pleasure, but its still more smart than trashy.
Hiaasen makes me laugh out loud
Having read or listened to many of Hiaasen's works, this one was about what I expected. Funny characters, funny situations, funny dialogue and funny outcomes. What I liked about this book is he made equal fun of developers and environmentalists. He even made me laugh at my own PR profession. If this were the only book that Hiaasen ever wrote, it probably would have earned five stars. But his books are like songs by the BeeGees; they're different but they sound the same. And if you like one, you'll probably like them all.
    Another Winner
This is one of his earlier works but it stands the test of time and demonstrates true Hiassen genius. Well worth a credit (or even real money!)
How does the narrator do it?
How can anyone read a Carl Hiaasen book out loud without laughing insanely! Yet, inspite of the over the top hysterical attributes of his books, there is a serious underlying message about what is being done to damage our natural resources. A great read or listen.
    Only in Florida
This is one of the more memorable of Hiaasens books. George Wilson is a solid performer. I lived in Florida for a long time so Im quite biased as I can relate to the people and places Carl describes. Most humor is based on truth and Native Tongue is real funny. If youve never lived in or visited Florida, then I can see how much of satire is wasted on the reader of this book.

    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult has an incredible talent for taking hot-button social issues and weaving them into compelling page-turners. In
Mercy, she explores the depths of love in its many forms. Police chief Cameron McDonald has lived in idyllic Wheelock, Massachusetts for most of his life, as has his beloved wife Allie. Their comfortable lives are thrown into tumult, however, when Cam's distant cousin Jamie arrives in town along with his wife's dead body. Jamie admits to the murder - a mercy killing to end the pain caused by a ravaging cancer. And now Cam is torn by his oath to uphold justice and his family obligations as chief of the Scottish McDonald clan. Meanwhile, another new arrival in town, Mia Townsend, threatens to unwittingly drive a dagger through Cam's marriage. Deftly portraying the complexities of love and passion, Picoult delivers another literary triumph with

Picoult meet Gabeldon whilst searchin' the heather
Yep..Diana Gabeldon ran across Jodi Picould one day while they were a'roamin ye auld highlands and they agreed to write a book together..or many they didn't but it just seems that way from this book.I think Nora Roberts might have joined in on this mess of a book too....theres a lot of her in it, including her key phrase of "He fisted her hair and drew her to the floor"
Theres a lot more uncensored lovemaking in Gabeldons books-plenty of sex, but none of it ticked me off as much as the cheating sheriff does in Mercy,
Wheelock Mass was settled 200 years ago by McDonalds mostly, along with a few other scotish surnames after the battle at Culoden and the Laird of the Clan McDnals has been the top cop in the little town ever since. Todays Chief of Police, one Cameron McDonald really wants to be a tourist writer but he had to return home because his father had died and it was his turn to become chief of police. He came back and maid the town librarian not the cheerleader that everyone thought he'd end up with-shes a writer and has returned to town for a opening preview and reading from her newest book.
The plot is trite tripe. So corny that I had a hard time not rolling my eyes and saying "OH Really"????? to some dumb turn of events. And to the way the female protagonist has chosen to not stand up for herself during her entire marriage. You know thats gotta go!
Combine it with a wandering woman who just shows up in town and charms the chief, a distant cousin who murders his wife in Wheelock because he knew The Laird would give him a fair judgment..after all, the wife requested she be murdered to get her out of all the pain she was in. I had so many "Why didn't they" questions about this act, as it is supposed to take place in this day and age-primarily why didn't they get this desire to be let go due to unmitigating cancer pain on the books first-get some group behind it-or even move here to Oregon where Mercy Killing is legal!
I was disappointed in the book..what might have been a good Picoult novel turned out to be an average listen with some unrealistic characters, a flat plot and a wish I hadn't downloaded it to start with.

    Better than average mystery/thriller
    Any additional comments?
Perhaps it is because I've listened to several disappointing stories recently, but I very much enjoyed this read. Robert Dugoni has very well honed skills in keeping a story moving and sidestepped the pitfalls of creating unbelievable solutions that so many writers seem to do. Also, even though this is a political/police thriller, Mr. Dugoni has successfully avoided inserting his own political bias into the story, one of my pet peeves is snarky pot shots some writers take at either the right or the left of the political spectrum, thank you for that. I am also likely to look for more books by this narrator, Christopher Lane, his pace was just right with character voicing's that enhanced rather than distracted from the story.
Not a Legal Thriller, but good story
Would you listen to Damage Control again? Why?
Once was enough. Would recommend it. Good characters. In a way, a bit of a "lite" read. Still I enjoyed it. Some mystery. Some real life events. Some miracles. Some tragedy. HOWEVER do not even think about court rooms, the law, Scott Turow, John Grisham. This book is nothing like their work.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Damage Control?
The beginning hooked me. The second visit to the eccentric artist was a bit thrilling. I enjoyed the flow of the book and characters and of course a love story emerges - implausibly but I suppose in real life love shows up in implausible ways.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Again I think the beginning got me and momentum stayed strong enough.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. I appreciate the author informing readers (just enough so) about breast cancer. Too little is said and done on that reality. The way it played out in the book however was lame. It suggested it could be a cake walk and that is simply the wrong message.
    Any additional comments?
I would like to read more of this author's books. I liked the narrator very much. Occasionally I was a little confused whether we were hearing a male or female character talking/thinking in the narration. Still, the narrator truly seemed to fit the main character. And I liked the main character of the book.
A few Murders, An Earring, And A SoothSayer...
I enjoyed listening to this story.

Happy and content in his hometown of Aurora, Minnesota, Cork O'Connor has left his badge behind and is ready for a life of relative peace, setting up shop as a private investigator. But his newfound state of calm is soon interrupted when Henry Meloux, the Ojibwe medicine man and Cork's spiritual adviser, makes a request: Will Cork find the son that Henry fathered long ago?
With little to go on, Cork uses his investigative skills to locate Henry Wellington, a wealthy and reclusive industrialist living in Thunder Bay, Ontario. When a murder attempt is made on old Meloux's life, all clues point north across the border. But why would Wellington want his father dead? This question takes Cork on a journey through time as he unravels the story of Meloux's 1920s adventures in the ore-rich wilderness of Canada, where his love for a beautiful woman, far outside his culture, led him into a trap of treachery, greed, and murder.
The past and present collide along the rocky shores of Thunder Bay, where a father's unconditional love is tested by a son's deeply felt resentment, and where jealousy and revenge remain the code among men. As Cork hastens to uncover the truth and save his friend, he soon discovers that his own life is in danger and is reminded that the promises we keep - even for the best of friends - can sometimes place us in the hands of our worst enemies.

    Needs another narrator
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I like to read series in order so no matter what I was going to buy this. But I was not happy.
What didnt you like about Buck Schirners performance?
I don't like him like I don't like Dick Hill. Other people do, Its a matter of taste. Why the switch from David Chandler. I don't understand why the publishing company decides that in a series there should be different narrators. Maybe they don't listen to books so they don't get it. You get used to the way characters are read and the change is painful.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No
    WHY THE CHANGE IN NARRATOR!!!!!?
I don't know this narrator and I haven't listened to the entire book yet, so I wouldn't be fair to comment on his performance at this time. What I do know is that I feel cheated when you change narrators in the middle of a series Not only is it a distraction,it also appears that the author gets more negative feedback then he would under normal circumstances.
    Bloody Awful Narrator!!!!
I listened to the first six books in this series and really enjoyed them ... the characters are all interesting and I'm absolutely in love with Henry Meloux. So I was really looking forward to the next installment.
But the narrator in this (and apparently the next five) books is so bad that it all but threw the joy of reading this book right out the window. What a disappointment! This narrator makes just about everyone sound like a mush-mouthed moron. And the women!!! They all sound masculine. And old. And just plain ... plain! Even Jo, who is a really vital sexy woman, sounds boring and slow and soulless. And poor Sheriff Marcia ... she sounds idiotic ...

As usual her book is fabulous! I am enjoying this series tremendously. Thank you for being the writer that you are Catherine Coulter. It's top of the line.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blindside?
When Katie beats the heck out of the preacher women
    FBI thrillers
I read most of these books when they first came out but I did not finish the series. I tried again later but still did not get through all of them. This time I am planning on listening to them all --so we will see if I make it through. I'm not really sure why I like them because the conversations between the characters is really inane at times. I mean , I don't think anyone talks like they do--at least not anyone I know when they are trying to be funny I guess. These are more comic book at times rather than real. I do like Savich and Sherlock so I am sure I will carry on.
    Very enjoyable
What did you love best about Blindside?

Clutched in his lap is a photo album containing photographs of seven young women who have been murdered.
LAPD homicide detectives had never connected the seven murders before and only one suspect has been charged in any of the murders - the suicide now discovered in the fire, Elliot Martin. Three years earlier, Martin had been brought to trial, but his defense attorney hired Elvis Cole to investigate. Cole found an exculpatory videotape that prompted the judge to dismiss the charges. But now Cole doesn't know what to believe, so he digs hard to uncover the truth - and escape his terrible guilt.
    Critic Reviews:

    Elvis & Pike Ride Again
Years ago I sat next to an actual private detective on an airplane and he recommended Robert Crais. I have devoured all of his books and enjoyed every one of them. Chasing Darkness is no exception. James Daniels does a respectable job with the narration and my only complaint is that the book is finished so quickly.
    Cole and Pike, great entertainment
The book starts out with the solving of 7 murders, with the suicide of the killer. That's what it appears to be anyway. But Elvis Cole, had cleared the victim from one of those murders, and won't rest until he discovers the real truth behind the suicide. Thus starts, a real murder mystery, with lots of fact finding, clues, and a whole lot of suspects.
With the combination of Cole's humor, and Pike's cameo pop-ins, it makes for a very interesting listen.
The real killer isn't all that easy to figure out either, as more evidence unfolds throughout the story, til the very end.
Top of the Line Story Read By Superb Narrator
Where does Chasing Darkness rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I read several series continuously and Crais' is one of my top five.
What did you like best about this story?
    Just effortless storytelling.
Have you listened to any of James Danielss other performances before? How does this one compare?
James Daniels is the only believable voice of Elvis and Joe.
    A little darker Elvis
This is a good mystery, where the possible pepetrators keep changing throughout the book. I felt that this one had Elvis having more of Joe Pike's personality due to the the narrator's presentation. It is a little darker, not the sprightly Elvis Cole of other books. Still a great story, just a different presentation.
    Great Start to Finish!
I LOVED this book. Suspenseful with just the right twists and turns.

    Worst listen of my life
I love the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books but the narrator on this one ruined the entire book for me. What kind of narrator pronounces word incorrectly??? I was going to let one mispronunciation go but when it kept happening with different words, it was too much. I couldn't even concentrate on the story. Honestly I don't understand why you would have multiple narrators for the same characters and story lines, it ruins the experience. Save yourself the agony read this book and avoid the audible version, its awful.
Completely Wrong Performer -- don't bother
Completely Wrong Performer -- don't bother
story is good, series is good, but Completely Wrong Performer -- don't bother
    Horrible narration
David Stuart absolutely does not work as Elvis Cole. I picture him as a 20 year old accountant fresh out of college weighing about 140 with Thick glasses. His russian accents are cartoonish, sounds like Boris from Rocky and Bullwinkle. I rarely stop listening to even the worst of books always hoping that it will get better but I don't think I am going to make it with this one.
    Mispronouncements annoying
This is a pretty good book, but got off to a bad start with me (Ch 3) because of reader mispronouncements. If you're reading a book set in LA, you need to know how to pronounce location names. Sepulveda and La Cienega are the glaring examples. Why didn't production staff pick up these errors? They're so distracting!
OMG....Wish We Had More Than 1 Narrator to choose!
Where does Indigo Slam rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Bottom...only because of the Narrator. He sounds like a 14 year old kid. And can so not do female voices. I have been hocked on Robert Crais for a since I read LA Requiem. I started at Book 8 and listened forward. Now I am going backward. I so wish the same narrator would read throughout the series but I understand that is not always possible but changing every 2 books is a little extreme to me but I got use to them. However, not this one. Although he reads well and is easy to understand I can not for the life of me see that voice belonging to Elvis Cole or Joe Pike!!! I see he also was the narrator in Book 6 and this is going to be tough to get thru this one so not sure I will buy Book 6 via Audio. I would have given this book 5 stars if not for the narrator.

    Waste of time
I read Robert Crais's book 'Taken' which was fantastic. This book was a huge disappointment. Poor narrator. There are two main woman characters in this novel, it is 'grating' to hear him try and impersonate a southern belle. The ending is ridiculous, leaves you so unsatisfied. In short, don't waste your time.
Entertaining but poor quality, garbled at spots
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, to have it re-recorded for better sound quality. Not up to Audible quality. Sounds like they just recorded from a tape that is going bad.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Naturally, Elvis & Joe
What three words best describe David Stuarts performance?
Not as good as some of the other books he has performed.
Did Sunset Express inspire you to do anything?
    Yes, write this review.
    Any additional comments?
    None.
First Elvis Cole Novel I have something bad to say
Would you try another book from Robert Crais and/or David Stuart?
I will willingly go to the next Robert Crais book because of my enjoyment of his previous novels. I will reluctantly suffer through another David Stuart reading so I can get the information from the book to carry onto the following one (which, thank goodness, has another narrator).
If youve listened to books by Robert Crais before, how does this one compare?
The previous Elvis Cole/Joe Pike novels have been a lot of fun. The stories have been interesting, and Elvis Cole has been a witty and fully enjoyable character. Unlike this book, the previous books do not revolve around the relationship between Elvis Cole and Lucy Chenier. In this book, the relationship took a lot of the attitude and the fun out of Cole's character. Without such a big involvement from Lucy, this could have been a solid and fully enjoyable story. The previous novels certainly are.
Also, David Stuart as a narration choice is unfortunate. Mel Foster was far superior to David Stuart as narrator, both in channeling the characters and in narration style. Where Mel Foster is laid back and smooth in his delivery, David Stuart is sloppy and mousey. David Stuart also seems to have a speech impediment that is hugely distracting.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of David Stuart?
I'd like to get Mel Foster back.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
When the author came back to the main story, it was pretty engaging. Unfortunately, the main story is peppered with Cole daydreaming about Lucy. But it is a generally good story.
    Any additional comments?
I only have one more David Stuart fiasco to suffer through (Indigo Slam) before moving on to a decent narrator.

At times I wanted to strangle Peter Alan Nelson for being so annoying
    Any additional comments?
Great read in the Elvis/Joe series
    Nice Elvis Cole story
Good story, that actually gets Elvis out of LA again. I am circling back and doing older Elvis Cole books and I had a hard time with the reader at the beginning, but after a short adjustment over the first few chapters, I got used to him and now doing other older Elvis books, Mel Foster has almost become the standard.
    Loved this book!
Where does Lullaby Town rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I really loved this book, and loved the narrator. First rate.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Lullaby Town?
I just liked the attitudes of the two main characters, Elvis & Cole. The narration made their attitudes all the better, and used inflections and nuances that I wouldn't have seen if I was just reading the book. The story line was good!
What does Mel Foster bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Again, the narration made their attitudes all the better, and used inflections and nuances that I wouldn't have seen if I was just reading the book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    Everybody lies.
    Any additional comments?
I had never heard of this author before. I am on the second book, and even though it is narrated by a different person (whose voice sounds too young, compared to Mel's voice) - I still like the inflections, etc., that he gives the characters. His accents are good also.
    Satisfying light mystery
What made the experience of listening to Lullaby Town the most enjoyable?
Crais tells a good story that I consider mystery light. It is always engaging but does not require a lot of thinking. Some more intrigue might help. Some of it seems implausible, but the humor makes it worthwhile.
What did you like best about this story?
Crais uses a lot of humor and I like the funny side of Elvis Cole.
What does Mel Foster bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Mel Foster brings lightness and air and a comic's touch to the reading.
Was this written by the same author
Ok. The characters are the same, Elvis, Pike, some others. The characters even seem familiar, but some how different.

    Publisher's Summary:
T Is for Trespass, dealing with issues of identity theft, elder abuse, betrayal of trust, the breakdown in the institutions charged with caring for the weak and the dependent, targets an all-too-real rip in the social fabric. Garfton takes us into far darker territory than she has ever traversed, leaving us with a true sense of horror embedded in the seeming ordinariness of the world we think we know. The result is terrifying.
    Critic Reviews:
"Grafton's mastery of dialogue and her portrayal of the limits of good intentions make this one of the series' high points." (Publishers Weekly)

    Simon gives it thumbs down:-(
Honestly, all I seem to notice in the mysteries I'm listening to lately is how they all seem to have gone into print without being edited! The amount of unnecessary detail in this book triples it's length - at least. I could care less which street she is on in this imaginary town and where she is turning right, parking near the pet shop, and pocketing her keys.
In a good mystery, the inclusion of little details are CLUES!! So you go past them blithely at your peril. But Grafton has never learned this lesson. Yes, her first few books were good (and much shorter), but this 26-book contract has been a big dissapointment.
I finished it because the plot is interesting (as always), but it's a slog, folks.
    T is for Tiresome
This narration was way too long considering the limited amount of content. The protagonist's personality as demonstrated in this book is not particularly interesting. The mysteries to be solved are not earth shattering in nature. Many of the plot twists were predictable chapters ahead.
There are many better books to listen to than this one. S is for Silence, written by this author, is one of them.
Judy Kay is a wonderful narrator.
    Not much of a thriller!
I really like Sue Grafton novels and couldn't wait for this one to come out. "T" kept my interest, but but never kept me sitting in my car in the garage waiting to hear what was going to happen next. Grafton added a little social commintary in this one, actually well done. Not Grafton's best, but not the worst. 6 out of 10
    T for Trespass
Really enjoyed it, felt a bit slow getting started but in retrospect it meant that the characters were well developed. It was well worth sticking with it as the second half was fast moving and full of "action". A thriller with a bit of a difference.
    She did it again!!
Could not wait to get it and listened to it all in one day. Kinsey is full of spunk her character is full of life. The narrator is great the characters are all too real. Now for U is for ?? can't wait, keep up the good work!! Love audible books. Why listen to music with so many great stories to consume.
