Intense story that asks important questions about life...

Though not for everyone, this was a very unique, original story about the deeper questions of life, death and everything in between. If you have pondered over metaphysical thoughts and yearn for deeper answers about life, you should read this book. I have and I loved every second of it.

I applaud that the author wrote in his own style, following his own rules, not worrying about accepted structure or rules. Those structures and rules can sometimes dampen a writers creativity and keep their work shackled by restraints. I like adventurous writers who are not afraid to push against those laws and boundaries and Mr. Siwicki does this with superb results.

An interesting story

This was one of the most different books I have read. The story takes place in the past, present and a little of the future too. It was interesting how the story took people of the past and brought them into the present. Some of the chapters were a little repetitive, which was not my favorite part. Overall, it was a different kind of book and I enjoyed it.

Very Thought-provoking

This is both a difficult book to review and an interesting book to review. The reader is taken through several scenarios involving high drama, picturesque landscapes, interesting characters and deep concepts. All the while we're wondering how things will turn out and if what we are reading is indeed reality or an alternate version of it. The ending provides additional food for thought.

The novel is divided into four main sections, each one starting word for word with exactly the same story yet quickly morphing into its own storyline. Each of these sections is divided into short chapters which brings clarity and ease to a complex storyline.

The novel is sufficiently abstract for readers who like to draw their own conclusions yet has enough plot to keep all readers engaged.

Thought provoking and lyrical.

This is a unique (at least in my limited experience) and thought provoking book. Lyrical in the sense that at times it reads like a poem. I was swept away in ways similar to my experiences listening to a symphony. Not just reading a story but experiencing it. You really do not only use one sense at a symphony. Nor in this book. Bravo.

Awake Asleep Dreaming Dead by John Siwicki is a must read.

An amazing story about what everyone experiences. If you like riding a roller coaster you'll love this book; it has all the ups and downs, and accidents of life.

In the beginning I got irritated by the storyline repetition. Then I realized it was necessary to engage in the variety of situations and transitional outcomes.

It made me have an attitude adjustment and not to take things for granted. Loved the book. I bought 8 copies to give as gifts.

Fanatic (Murder in the Genes Trilogy Book 3), will have you glued to your Kindle. Fast-paced, intelligent, scary, and thoughtful by turns, Fanatic is a chilling concept well executed.

Martin Day is looking for a role-model. He's a loner whose genetic makeup bodes ill. Soon enough, he finds and idolizes a killer, and worse comes to worse...

I enjoyed this and this illustrations

Frankenstein is an all time classic; I enjoyed this and this illustrations. Its always amazing to see what creative works authors can cook up when they use their imagination, and watch it be love and accepted by fans of it or similar work, I love that the indie publishing world gives people the power to freely exercise and explore the depths of their imagination and this was a bold work of creativity, risky, even, because we have already had so much, but this didnât deviate away from the original, it was ok for me.

Not At ALL What The Description Implied

If you are looking for a story about a couple moving past a difficult event, then this is a good book. If you were under the impression that this would be a road trip mystery involving a couple that just happened to have a back story of a difficult event they need to get through, then don't get this book.

Eh, it wasn't terrible. I thought that certain parts of it were over explained and the action scenes gave me anxiety. I found my mind drifting to other places multiple times.

I have not, so I cannot say. I thought she did a good job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A broken couple and their dog hit the road to visit family but accidentally venture down a dangerous path.

This book would have made a better short story. I'd take a red pen to at least 2/3 of it. That said, it was still better that half of the crap being published today.

So good, so good, so not so good!

I chose my overall rating as a combination of performance and of the story. The Narrator was GREAT! Inflection at the right points, etc. I was a very natural reading almost like watching a movie. This was excellent because it allowed me to hone in on the story and not be distracted by the reader. I'd love if you could select narrators for the books you buy because I'd likely pick this woman for everything!

The story it's self was good. Just good. This is likely my fault because I was under the impression it would be a full suspense novel. It's a 4/10 on the suspense level (I'm a fan of Jeff Menapace). The story had so much potential to be wickedly suspenseful but feel short. Seeming to more about the relationship of two people (two very plausible people) and nothing more than PG suspense. All in all, I would recommend it. The characters were believable and like able and while it wasn't the dark matter I was seeking its an easy and enjoyable read! Cheers!

decent story but too pricey for 4+ hrs

The story was decent. Mood was ominous. Neither character was particularly likeable. More importantly, this book was way too expensive for a mere four plus hours worth of listening to a just decent story. At times the Reader's voice was too "throaty". MMS.

Don't read with the lights off!!

Having loved both book 1 & 2, I couldn't wait to dive into this and see what else could possibly happen Brian and the Leonidas Group. Well this edition sees Brian being called to investigate Middlebury Sanitarium, and you just know, even before reading the book, that with Sanitarium in the name, there will be ghosts!! Brian definitely has his hands over full with this one!

One thing I've found with this series is that the settings seem to be getting creepier and creepier. I have always thought that, for a ghost story anyway, an abandoned mansion, or hospital or Sanitarium are always a good place to set it. They just give of an incredibly scary vibe! Middlebury Sanitarium was such a scary place, and the authors descriptive writing just gave me chills thinking of it. You could just imagine the pain and suffering that took place there!! Definitely not a book to read in the dark ;) Saying that, I may love scary stories but I'm a wimp and only read them during the day!!!

Again, the author creates unique and interesting characters. I loved the introduction of Ken!! His back story was awesome and his character really shined. Then we have the dead! All of them were as freaky as hell and scary as ever!! The King!!!! I got goose bumps while reading about him. But as I've come to expect with this author. Some of the awesome characters die. Damn you Ron Ripley!!!! ;) Though with so many ghosts wafting around the place, maybe they might make a return!!! Lol.

Anyway, this book, and indeed the series, was amazing. They may be relatively short books, but there is so much happening that they don't feel short. They are chock full of suspense, thrills, chills and will grab you from the first page. I so want these to be a mini series on TV!

I've listened to a good few books narrated by Andrew Tell and not one of them has been anything but perfect. He is effortless to listen to and really knows how to bring the listener into the story. He knew how to bring across the creepiness of the place and characters and was a big reason why I loved the series so much!!

A SCARY STORY IN AN OLD SANITARIUM?! WHO KNEW?!

If you love ghost stories, then Yes, recommended. It had both originality and the same ol' mixed together. It is just is not my style plus it can be hard to get scared with all the humor flying around.

"Are you so perfect that you can judge me?"

As a great fan of Mr.Adler's work, I had been very much looking forward to this book. He is a wonderful wordsmith. But Cult just did not have the impact for me that his other books have had, be they thrillers or spy, comedy or historical.

As always, the character drawing is superb and the reader is given clear pictures of the aspirations of the protagonists. A young mother leaves her four years old child and her older, rather overbearing husband to join her sister in a closed community, a cult known as the Glories. She essentially signed away her life to be with them, cutting all communication with her family and the rest of the world. Her husband, Barnie, wants her back. He persuades an old girl friend, a human rights activist still just a little in love with him, to help him try to see his wife and bring her home. Intrigued, but against her better judgement, Naomie agrees and comes up against the legal barriers of access to someone who is in the grip of a group which has taken control, even though that same group might be suspect. The law is on their side and there is nothing legally that can be done.

Frustration, anger, violence both physical and psychological ensue. And the vassilation of Naomie over who is right and who wrong, is played out in her indecisions and actions which bring consequences which are disastrous.

Sam is baaaack!!

Loved this edition of the Moving In series!! Brian and Jenny are back doing what they now do, Ghostbusting. Brian is on a mission to help William, who is moving into his ex-army friends house near the ocean. Williams house is haunted, but it's not what's in the house he has to fear! It's what's outside!! William calls Brian, and he comes to see the problem. What he also finds there is an old enemy that has come back to haunt him! Between Brians worries and Williams ghosts, can they survive!!

I'm so glad Brian and Jenny are back, as well as some old favourites from book 1!!! This will be one of their toughest jobs so far and one of the most dangerous. They face enemies from the past as well as ones from the present.

The plot of this was again, fast paced and intense. It takes place in both this time and another, and I really enjoyed seeing Williams story and the twist the author threw in. The ghosts seem to be getting scarier and more evil and this one frightened me a lot!!

Anyway, in all, this was another quick creepy read. I so want to see these as a series!!! While reading I kept thinking to myself, what would Sam and Dean do!!! Lol. Being a big Supernatural nut, this series is right up my alley.

Once again, Andrew Tell did an amazing job. He really brings the book to life and made me enjoy this more. It played out as a TV episode in my head. He even does a good feminine voice! I can recommend his work highly.

Ghost story that will scare you and enthrall you

I listened to most of this book with my two boys while taking apart and assembling furniture as we moved the boys rooms around. They were sucked into it as much as I was. This became super apparent as a climactic moment was occurring and (in real life) the thunder shook the house. The boys screamed dropped the tools and screws they were holding and freaked out (ages 10 an 11). They and I LOVED this story. A ghostbusters type group based in psychic and mystic power rather than tools. 2nd book in a series. Can't wait to find the 1st one and then the rest of the series. Truly a well written and well narrated story. The author and narrator pack a punch that leave you breathless on the edge of your seat and eagerly waiting for the next moment to be revealed.

Unexpectedly Amazing!!

First impressions: It must be said that for about the first 5 minutes, it seemed like this was in desperate need of a female narrator (even though I really like Logan McAllister) and was not going to work, but once the story got moving, both it and LM grabbed me and pulled me in so completely that I didn't think about it again. I absolutely loved this. Yes, it IS dark, so skip it if that isn't your cup of tea. It has the feel of a mystery/thriller/horror flick with a bit of creepy mansion/asylum, a good dose of true eroticism, real love and roller-coaster, psychological journeys for the main characters. I freaking LOVED it!!

Again, Logan McAllister does an excellent job of telling this story. (SO excellent that a super picky narrator reviewer such as myself can't find anything to complain about--even while finding something to complain about!) He performs female voices in dialogue but not in the descriptive paragraphs or the female character's internal musings, BUT that takes about 30 seconds to get used to and honestly does not detract from the writing in any way. He really does a phenomenal job of bringing the story to life and delivering it in the way I believe the authors intended it to be "heard."

Even though I would usually say that $10 is too pricey for less than 4 hours of audio, The Dark Doctor is so hauntingly different and unique that I believe it is worth the cash price because the authors managed to pack twice the awesome of a full-length novel into a smaller package. I am keeping these authors on my radar and look forward to more. I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review. The number of stars is based on where I believe this audiobook rates with other audiobooks of the same type, length and general feel-- not where it rates in comparison to all audiobooks of all time.

Interesting read

I liked the book. Storyline was fluid, police behavior wasn't too believable. I thought the author over emphasized some descriptions of past elements also, which took away from the experience. Sometimes too wordy. I would still recommend because of the overall story.

I like how she goes into the painting

This book tell us how Detective John Anderson is adjusting to life back in his small hometown of Belpre, Ohio when a series of gruesome murders rocks the peaceful community. I like how she goes into the painting, into another world. And i like how she gets over her trauma so she can save all the girls the demon plans on killing. Detective John Anderson dealt with more psychos and ritualistic serial killer. When he went back in hometown there are these gruesome and violent murders that something related to the brutal murder of his twin sister where he escaped his own life thirty years ago. This is a Great book!

Darker Still

Written with a style that kept me spellbound from the first chapter. It was a gastly story that once I got a short way into the book I did not want to put it down so had a relaxing day reading the entire book.

A little darker than what I normally read, this book was still a great find. I've been trying to expand my tastes so decided to give some murder mysteries a try. I found the story riveting and the detective to be a hard, intriguing and despite his horrible past, a relatable character. T.S. Worthington moves the story along quite well and keeps the reader engaged.

This book is really good

I don't normally read a book in a day but I was I'll and needed something to distract me. I was surprised and enthralled, delighted and mystified. By the end of the book not only was I amazed but I felt better too. Bravo! You will love it as I do.

Great start to an orignal series!

Imagine a world about 100 years in the future, where cars drive themselves, technology is more advanced, but all in all, its recognizable. Oh, did I forget to mention that supernatural cratures, like Werewolves and Vampires, among a host of others, are now out in the open and are accepted members of society? Thats where the story begins in Dallas, as vampire detective Lacey Anderson is put in charge of the newly formed Undead Squad, formed to deal with strictly supernatural crimes. She is partnered with Colton Scarber, an irracible Werewolf. This is an uneasy parnership, since Vamps and Wolves dont really care for each other generally. Also, Colton's pack was involved with an earlier incident in Lacey's life that has left her traumatized still. They immediately pick up a case where a woman has been assaulted by a supernatural. So begins a wild ride of a book that reads like a hard boiled police procedural, only with Supernatural creatures! The search for the culprit takes all their skills and knowledge, including something Lacey saw 500 years ago, and leads to a thrilling conclusion! Along the way, Lacey and Colton have to face their shared past and find a way to deal with it while working as an effective team. All in all, extremely well done!

The plotting and pacing were excellent, and you can tell the author has either researched extensively or has a Law enforcement background. Having such long lived characters also allows for interesting flashbacks, and the settings, from renaissance era Greece to future era Dallas are well drawn out. I really enjoyed the byplay between the two main characters as they each learned each others strangths and how they complimented their own.

As far as narration, Sallie Downing did a fine job bringing the various characters to life. She gave them each their won voice, even minor characters, and her pacing was excellent.

I give this book my highest recommendation, and it should please both urban fantasy fans and even fans of stuff like the Harry Bosch books.

I found Fang and Claw to be a really good book. I really enjoyed the two main characters Lacey a vampire and Colton a werewolf.

One of Poe's best! Definitely Gothic tradition

Poeâs classic tale âThe Fall of the House of Usherâ is sort of the poster child for the chilling, atmosphere driven Gothic tale. It has so many elements of the fantastic, the weird, the gloomy, and the supernatural. What I find so refreshing, interesting and thought-provoking about this story is that you can read it ten different times and find ten different meanings. There is so much going on, both on the surface and symbolically, that you can see something in the story that may have missed on a previous read.

On the barest level, this is simply a tale of an unnamed narrator going to visit and old friend to help him find some solace for an mysterious illness. In the old Gothic tradition, you just know some crazy stuff is going to happen once he gets there. When he gets to the house, as you can imagine, there is a constant sense of foreboding, a gloomy and awful sensation as he sees poor Roderick Usher. (Just wait till you meet Roderickâs sister). Scary and odds things abound, thereâs a feeling that we do not know what is real, and what is imagined. How much of the gloom and disparity is feeding into the narratorâs own state of mind? There a story within a story here as well, as some elements drift right into the plot from outside sources.

I donât think there are many writers who can duplicate Poeâs ability to create and intensify an atmosphere that is deeply disturbing and odd. This story is literally dripping with a heavy, unsettling atmosphere, and it builds and builds. We, much like the narrator, cannot pin down just what the heck is happening here in this house (or, for that matter, in this House).

Madman

This story is mysterious and breath taking. Told from the perspective of a curious friend. It held my interest as I have been told that I am a descendant of the house of Usher. I am not sure if this is a good thing or if it is true. Good read, I will recommend it to anyone who has an interest in horror.

Don't be fooled!

The French is provided after the entirety of the English text, making it completely unhelpful for French language studies. Worse than that, the audiobook that is Whispersynced to it is only in English! My whole reason for purchasing it (to listen to the French, following along, with the English translation nearby) was erroneous. Don't be fooled!

Fine, but I wished there wasn't so much background noise

There was a lot of background soundtrack that made it difficult to listen to. My son had to read this for class and this audio version was fine.

The classic collection of Poe - i read The Fall of the House of Usher years ago, as a teenager, just before bed. Big mistake. These stories encompass not only the original modern horror genre, but also the dawn of modern mystery writing.
