Impossible to not finish this series!

What did you love best about Red Rain: Lightning Strikes?

How the flow continued from Red Rain: Clouds Gathering, the suspense builds even more. The author writes very well, smooth transitions from past to present to add depth and character to the story. I appreciated that we spend more time with young John, including his time overseas and how events transpired with young Harry.

What other book might you compare Red Rain: Lightning Strikes to and why?

Certainly the first in the series - these are not stand-alone novels. That said, the storyline is so rich that it is near impossible to consider listening to one or two of the books without finishing the full series.

Have you listened to any of Charles Kahlenbergs other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've heard this narrator in "Clouds Gathering" - I didn't like his voice so much to begin with...but it has grown on me and I am liking his narration of this second book in the series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moments when Clara was discussed; her brutality and her daughter's ability to overcome it -- only to see it emerging in her own son.

And the saga continues

After thinking about it..I don't even know what to say about this story. It involves romance but also mystery and intrigue. It is about a young woman's family connections but also her connection to a stranger. This is just one of those books you have to read to know what is going on. What I can say is the ending left me with a lot more questions than it answered.

The narrator did a really good job in my opinion. After listening to this book I caught myself reading other books but hearing her voice. I would definitely listen to another book narrated by her.

Wow!!!

This book was absolutely fantastic. The author and narrator are extremely talented. I loved the unexpected twists and turns. This story has so much going for it... love, betrayal, revenge. I will definitely look for more by this author and narrator. Without giving away spoilers, I never saw the ending coming. The story flowed so well and kept me intrigued. Stunned!

This is one of those books that carries you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and you willingly go! I can't tell if I am more heartbroken over the fact that the book is over or the actual ending. I was so caught up in the characters lives...and now it's over. I think I need a drink.

Jezebel was an interesting story with an unexpected twist at the end. It was a little slow at the beginning but I wanted to see where it was going, so I persevered. I did think it was a bit long and the narration could have been better. It was worth the listen and I was stunned by the ending. I would recommend this audiobook.

Wow... what an ending!

Well, this was not at all what I expected! Talk about a surprise ending! I really grew to enjoy Jezebel and Annabelle's characters and enjoyed their time together. I knew Celeste's story was more entwined with Jezebel's life than she was letting on but I did not expect the twist at the end! The fact that the surprise ending happened at the VERY END left me reeling. I didn't have time to process it or come to terms with it before it was just over. Well done!

Emma's narration was spot on although her male voices were not exceptional. Otherwise, she fit these characters well and really helped bring this story to life.

I am still in shock over the finale and I may have to take a break from reading for a day or two to put my thoughts and emotions back together. I will re-read soon to see what clues I may have missed along the way.

Sin is more like Revenge

Slightly unbelievable a sister could resent an adopted sister her entire life. To this extent at times makes this story question why? Unless true mental illness is the only answer and that is the only option to take.

This is the second book I've read by this author. She has a very different style. It's almost dry, yet not boring at all. Her stories do not have happy endings, which I think is awesome, yet they are love stories just the same.

This book gives a glimpse into the truly disturbed mind of a young woman. The resentment she feels towards her "adopted" sister is profound and has been growing within her since she was a child.

She will stop at nothing in her efforts to destroy her sister. Her thinking is completely distorted and only when nearly all things are lost, due to her obsession, does she begin to make a sort of change in herself. But really, does a truly disturbed mind ever change?

This book made me think about many things. First and foremost, the things we contemplate within the confines of our minds. Most people may entertain irrational thoughts, but most don't act upon them. Ruth acts on them. All of them.

I found it very intriguing.

Enjoyed it totally.

It's been a while since I read it, but I remember that the jealousy of one and the actions of the cousin trying to stay out of the spotlight were the interesting parts of this book. The accident that should have drawn them together only added more anger. Trying to relate into my own life, I wold have cut off all contact earlier, but then there would not have been an interesting side of their lives. I don't think I was happy with the ending, but I understand it written that way.

This book was as good as Josephine Hart's most famous novel, Damage. I love Ms. Hart's writing style, it's thoroughly original.

Exciting and astonishing

Wonderful!! Such a buzzard and exciting adventure. Short stories are the way to go! I need more from this writer.

Brilliant but frustrating

This story was fantastic. The concept of people living off an endless ladder was brilliant and the writing was top notch. I immediately wanted to know more about the author but the complete lack of contact links just made it more mysterious in my ways. I picked the ending but was hoping for some greater relevation, but like the famous novel series that it reminded me of (no spoilers but as a hint the final scene involves walking up a lot of stairs) I'm not sure how it could have been different. Looking forward to more from this author.

Could've been better. The execution seemed to be that of a new author. However the storyline was good and if it wasn't so sloppy or short it would've been 5 stars.

THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL by Cynthia Luhrs

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Great novel!! I would have rated it a "5" but for the fact that it was a bit too long. After the 9th killing, I lost a bit of my enthusiasm for the reading. Also, what professional "hit man" would drive around in a black Maserati while on the job? I would think he'd want to be invisible and unremarkable, and drive around in some nondescript vehicle like a Toyota Camry. There were some small typos and minor grammatical errors, but nothing distracting.

All in all, it was a terrific read! What a unique idea Ms. Luhrs came up with for this novel! A vigilante killer who takes out men & women who abuse animals! As I read about the killings of 13 men & women, I was continually thinking---"Let the punishment fit the crime. " Although shooting animal abusers is not an appropriate punishment for this crime, I found myself rooting for Hope, hoping (no pun intended) she'd not be found by the police, even though I know her actions were WRONG. The people she killed were such scum, I found myself rooting for Hope each time she executed another criminal.

Ms. Luhrs painted a realistic picture of a woman who devolved from "sweet" and "kind" into a cold-blooded killer. Her change was believable although sudden. She went from an upward bound career woman with a wealthy boyfriend to an anti-social misfit who lost both job & boyfriend because of her conscious choices, and devolution into the dark side. Every time she killed another animal abuser, she was killing her father. She did this because she never went through therapy after her mother's murder. She never came to terms with the horrific trauma of her childhood. She took that experience and shut it away in a dark corner of her mind, and hid the key. A very unhealthy thing to do when traumatized, as Ms. Luhrs demonstrates in her excellent novel.

I bought this book a few days ago; it was on sale for .99.

It appears there will be no sequel, but I wish there was. I'd like to read the continuing story of Hope's life, to see if she can rise above her destructive actions, and reclaim her goodness.

I'll be looking to buy more of Cynthia Luhrs' novels.

Continuing excellence.

I found this series on Amazon when there was just one book. I loved everything about it. I have been an avid fan since. Ms. Reid writes a riveting yet believable paranormal story. There is some suspension of disbelief necessary yet not so much we have to enter another world of make believe. She is descriptive but not nauseatingly gory. I love the romantic but clean element that weaves through each story. I eagerly await each new book and someday hope to have the whole series of books in my library, not just the kindle or audible editions. I do hope Mary continues her work.

I really tried...

After conflicting reviews, some love or, some abhor the book, I decided to go for it. I struggled to stay interested. Not because the characters aren't interesting, but because one is a bit too all over the place, going from being strong willed, to damsel in distress, to blacking out (though not sure if it's alcohol, which she mentions, or another issues, because she fainting and blacking out, when she hadn't been drinking too) and another character who the term "deeply disturbed" would barely scratch the surface. I don't mind reading about dark and disturbed characters, but this one was overly cringeworthy, for no real purpose. To me, you don't need that much vile descriptives to enforce the character as disturbed. (And this is coming from someone who uses the "F word" as a comma!)

I tried to force myself to listen, but only made it about 2 hours into the book, after more than a week of waiting to "be hooked" in, and it just didn't happen. Instead I would just feel unsettled and frustrated, that I wasn't getting out of it, what I wanted; which is a captivating psychological thriller.

Persevere with the slightly slow start.

Having just finished Frailty and The Optician's Wife by the same author, I was a bit worried about the slow start to this book, but well worth continuing to the great second half of the book.

You have to stick with it!

It took a while to draw me in but overall the story once it did grip really led you on. A couple of good twists that are hard to see coming and a good ending.

I felt the second half of the book was much better paced and better written than the first. That is why I said at the beginning to stick with it!

I received this audiobook from Bloodhound Books in return for a fair review. I really felt at the beginning of the book that the author was using too much description and it took a while to grab me. But there came a point at which she seemed to have much more belief in her story and it really took off from there. Probably wouldn't have listened to it all if I hadn't been reviewing it but I am glad I did!

Must confess I'm a fan of Betsy's written work anyway.

This is 1st audio of hers I've listened to. Excellent storyline! Excellent. I know saying twists can annoy some people but this is twist galore! Couldn't second guess the way this went at all.

I said OH NO quite loudly at work at 1 point, my hubby came straight over with what's wrong. Thinking I'd done something at work.
