Compelling author's voice

What did you love best about Legion of the Moonlight, Book 1?

I love the compelling author's voice and the world building!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep!

Any additional comments?

This book is meant to be one in a series, so it ends in a cliffhanger. For those of you who does not like cliffhangers, Book 4 is on the way which is the finale of the series. You can then have the option of reading the entire series in one go. The cliffhanger ending is the only reason this book did not get a 5 out of 5 with me. Otherwise, this is a magical read for urban fantasy lovers!

In the Middle Ages...

Vampires looked more like movie zombies than movie stars.

Vampires didn't introspectively brood on the meaning of their existence.

Vampires did not possess souls.

Vampires didn't act like preppie boys with fangs.

Vampires didn't date, let alone go steady.

Vampires couldn't control their lust for blood - and didn't want to.

Vampires lived in graveyards.

Vampires looked ugly, not "beautiful".

Vampires smelled bad. They didn't glitter.

If you can handle a vampire who's more than just a tall, dark "bad boy" gone undead...

If you can handle a vampire who wants nothing out of death but blood from the living...

If you can handle blood lust mixed with a young girl's illicit longing for the only man who ever showed her kindness...

A short story, it originally appeared in The Vampire's Crypt 5, Spring 1992.

Publisher's Summary:

Twenty five year old journalist intern, Kathryn McDounough, will soon be completing her graduate intern-ship in preparation for her career. Her professor informs her that a regional newspaper known as the Boston Commons is looking for a writer for a small weekly column under the chief editor, Arlene Burkes. After being accepted for the job, Kathryn (everyone calls her Katie) begins to experience strange and initially inexplicable phenomena ranging from witnessing freak car accidents, vivid dreams to being followed. Will Katie figure out what is causing all the chaos? Does she really want to know the answer?

Intriguing beginning to an interesting series

Kathryn (Katie) McDounough is an intern journalist. She wants her big break into the field, one that will launch and secure her career. Working for the Boston Commons, her first tough assignment is to successfully interview the notoriously eccentric author, Robert Staggs. But soon after the initial interview, odd things occur in Katies life. She digs into the mystery, but that may leave her dead.

This is a fun addition to the urban fantasy genre. It focuses on the three Fates of mythology. They probably started off Greek (the Moirai) as Robert Staggs suspect, but their names have changed as different cultures through the ages adopted them into their mythology. Now, in this modern era, the Fates seem rather interested in both Robert and Katie. But their interest is of a sinister nature and Katie experiences some scary and disturbing things. She has to outsmart Fate itself.

I really liked the mix of mythology, investigative reporting, action, and reflection. The story had a good pace and I wanted to listen to this book all in one sitting. The characters were easy to connect with and I was caught up in their story wanting to know how they were going to get out of the mess they are in. Over all, this book is clever and fun.

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

The Narration: Tiffany Williams was great. She had the perfect voice for Katie, providing the right amount of emotion as the situation warranted. She also had believable male voices.

what a nice twist on mythology

I love this newer generation rediscovering mythology stories. I grewup with and read. I was given this audiobook in exchange for review of the narrative performance. Tiffany Williams was full of energyenergy with a nice range of pitch and accent switching flawlessly between the voices. It is very clear that she herself enjoyed the story she was reading and that enhanced the overall storyline. Well done!

It was OK

The story seemed a little weird and slightly hard to follow. I understand having an open-ended ending but I left with more questions that seemed important at the end. Trying not to spoil it too much, I was wondering what the point of telling the story was. Because the story was short (which I knew going in) it wasn't "connected" to a larger plot. This would be great in a longer book, for sure, but it kinda felt like I was reading about something going to the grocery store. It has it's place in a larger book, a bigger picture, but on it's own it felt empty. I hope this concept evolves in to a series or novel because it was a good story, nice language, and cool concept. I just finished thinking, "That's it?". And it really wasn't the length that had me thinking that, it was just that I felt this belonged in a larger context.

Quick Read, Interesting Concept

I enjoyed the idea behind this story, and the little twist at the end! I found myself wishing it were longer so that I could become more immersed in the story.

One Word - Fun!

This is a near perfect escape. While you can easily enjoy this over lunch, you might want to take your time to savor the rich characters the author creates along with the interesting situations and landscapes. The story is spicy and is a great way to sample this author.

Finally, a fresh new idea!

I consume a lot of audible media in the form of books and podcasts. This is the first time I've ever heard of a thing like Audiblescripts. If you are looking for something new, this is definitely it.

The idea is that a script is performed by a narrator and a cast of voice actors. The quality of production, story, and voice acting is excellent and I guarantee you've never heard anything like that. I can definitely recommend it for anyone looking to shake up their boring old habits.

Funny and Fun

I really enjoyed "Tommy gets a Yeast Infection". It was very funny and enjoyable. There are a lot of really funny characters with distinct personalities! It puts a fun twist on the whole boy meets girl boy has a bike race scenario :)

Audiblescripts Variety Pack 1

Really enjoyed this. A little different which makes a pleasant change. Definitely worth listening to. Hope they do many more.

Members Reviews:

Excellent Entertainment

If you could sum up One Last One in three words, what would they be?

Fast, intense action

What did you like best about this story?

The character were so alive and active it was like being in the story. The never was a dull moment.

Any additional comments?

This is truly cutting edge audio entertainment. This is refreshingly different because the action taking place let me easily imagine what was going through the characters minds rather than the narrator telling me like in traditional audio books. I loved that there is a full cast of characters that bring the entire story to life. Another plus is that it is fairly short and I could listen to it in just two settings rather than five or six. The narrator and all of the actors did an excellent job! Three Thumbs Up Audiblescripts! I'll definitely listen to more Audiblescripts productions. Thanks you.

Powerful and Thought Provoking.....

What made the experience of listening to One Last One the most enjoyable?

One Last One is the FIRST vampire story that I've ever chosen to take notice of. No, I do not live under a rock; I simply never thought this genre would appeal to me. I was into Chapter Two before I realized that I was hooked.

The first Chapter wasn't poorly written, it was my getting accustomed to the narrator's voice and inflection, while trying to establish the cast of characters in order to readily recognize them as they moved through the story.

Once I felt comfortable with the characters, their interactions, the conflicts being presented, and the timeline of events, I began to listen in earnest.
