In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no Internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: on your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else.
Michael Grant's Gone has been praised for its compelling storytelling, multidimensional characters, and multiple points of view.

Please rerelease this book w new narration
    Any additional comments?
Everytime the narrator said the word, "said" I cringed. It took away from the story which in of itself is great. Terrible narration.
Story is okay... narration is horrible
I almost turned the book off because of the narrator. I cringed every time he read the word "said".
I wish I had other reviews before starting
The narrator was terrible, but only because of the forceful way he would say " Sam SAID" or whichever character he was referring to. It was extremely annoying and distracting! But still enjoyed the book.
    It's finally out :Omega saaaaid
Is there anything you would change about this book?
    Kyle McCarley
What other book might you compare Gone to and why?
    Hunger games and
What didnt you like about Kyle McCarleys performance?
He sounds like he lost a bet and is forced to read the whole series. He gives characters (who are like 14-15 years old) the voice of a chain smoker, and every time he otters the phrase :He said/she said, he reminds me of the 1 teacher off of southpark that says "Ummkaaay?" after every sentence.
Was Gone worth the listening time?
    despite Kyle McCarleys performance, yes
    Any additional comments?
there are actually a version of these books I have herd read by a woman who is not a professional and is monotone for days....I kinda preferred her version
The book was amazing!10/10! But the audio was not
Would you consider the audio edition of Gone to be better than the print version?
No, in the end reading the actual book would have been the better option! If the narrator did not sound automated then maybe!
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Sam, duh!
What three words best describe Kyle McCarleys performance?
The audio was ok. The narrator was not at all superb! The way he said "Sam said" or "Astrid said" make me feel like I was listening to an automated voice message! When listening to audiobooks, I'd like to feel more immersed in the story! But his way of reading was machine like!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes of course! The battle of thanksgiving was so live like I felt as though I was there!!!!
    Any additional comments?
Amazing book! Micheal Grant outdid himself in this series! Can't wait to read book two!

    Publisher's Summary:
What if the sleeping beauty never woke up? Once Upon a Dream marks the second book in a new YA line that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways.
It should be simple - a dragon defeated, a slumbering princess in a castle, a prince poised to wake her. But when the prince falls asleep as his lips touch the fair maiden's, it is clear that this fairy tale is far from over.
With a desperate fairy's last curse controlling her mind, Princess Aurora must escape from a different castle of thorns and navigate a dangerously magical landscape - created from her very own dreams. Aurora isn't alone - a charming prince is eager to join her quest, and old friends offer their help. But as Maleficent's agents follow her every move, Aurora struggles to discover who her true allies are, and moreover, who she truly is. Time is running out. Will the sleeping beauty be able to wake herself up?

A good read for anyone who loves fairy tales.
Definitely a twist to the familiar story. My daughter and I loved reading this together.
    Amazing.
I love the idea of reimagining stories we know. I like this one because Aurora has to save herself, no one can do it for her. Maleficent is just as cruel and evil as she is in the Disney film, and the author really expanded on what makes her evil and why she is. This is not an exact retelling, and I loved that. Prince Phillip, King Hubert, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather help to keep the story going and interesting, and there are plenty of twists, turns, and close calls that make you feel like you're in the story right by Aurora's side, and in her head, literally. Amazing book. I cannot wait to listen to the others in the series!
    Intelligently written, but occasionally cliche.
This was a very smart, well written retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale brought to life by Disney. Honestly the only negative I found was that Aurora-Rose (which is such a dumb amalgamation of her names) is occasionally terribly whiny and mopey during the book's second act. It starts to feel very Bella a la Twilight for a moment there. I understand her internal conflict because of her circumstances, but considering she's older than 16 in her dream...you'd think she'd have more of a grip on herself.

    Doesn't End!
The story has exciting moments, but bottom line...it ends as if in the middle of a chapter. The story is left hanging without any version of resolution. It is clear the story was designed to run on and on filling enough pages so that they could drag out the plot into at least one other book to sell. Not worth it at all.
    Gregg Hurwitz-lite!!
I anxiously await anything written by Gregg Hurwitz. They are based (or were based) on the same formula--but I find them suspenseful and addicting. This is not the same. Granted, it is advertised as a YA novel--so the intended audience of this work is not the same.
That said--I liked the book. I wasn't hanging on every word like in his other books--but it provided an enjoyable distraction. I will purchase the next one to see what happens--but I won't be counting the minutes until publication. I hope he continues to write his other books-one of those I would gladly give up a final credit!
    A nice surprise
After I finished the audio book I thought I would read some of the other reviews before I got started on my own. In doing so I was a little disappointed to read some reviewers refer to this one as a zombie story. It is not a zombie story but there are some similar characters from popular zombie titles. For example, the main character 'Chance Rain' reminds me a lot of Zach Gunderson from 'Zombie Rules'. Both characters are young, smart and struggling with a hard luck story and both are looked as gifted leaders despite being so young. As the story unfolds I can't help but be reminded of 'Falling Skies' and 'The 5th Wave'.
The narration is clear and at a fair speed. I only turned this one up to 1.25x speed, meaning the original listening time of nearly 10 hours listening time was not decreased too much. This might be important for people whose purchasing decisions include a $/per hour factor.
I can't help but think that the story is aimed at a younger audience (not kids). The lack of swearing, and the lack of sex scenes is unusual in this type of thing.
This one was a step away from my usual zombie genre and truthfully I wasn't expecting much. However, I was kept interested the entire time. It had just enough twist and turns to keep me coming back to it. The narration suited the main character. There was just enough tension (I did not get worked up over it and upsetting my already upsetting work day!).

I'm not sure what happened here
I'm a die-hard fan of the series and listen and read the books probably 15 times a year, but I will NOT be listening to this one again. I've used Audible for almost 8 years now, and this will be my first returned book.
First off, as other reviewers have mentioned, the narrator was abysmal at best. Lack of emotions and enthusiasm, weird and random pauses, and little to no vocal distinctions between characters.
Second, there is no way Garth Nix wrote this. The first three books were amazing and had so much depth that I continue to enjoy them as an adult. Clariel was definitely a bit lagging, but as a pre-qual, it wasn't bad. This? This is an abomination. Either Nix has lost his mind, is stuck in a rut of writing for pre-teens, or he had a ghost-writer. The story was choppy, with no character or plot development, rushed romance, gratuitous appearances from prior characters, random additions of new places and people, and an ending that made me hope there's no more books, because the series has been butchered enough.
I'd love more books with the main characters, but only if we get the mid-90's Nix back!
    Good story! Poor narrator choice.
I enjoyed the story, but not the narrator. She did not bring much to the story in terms of performance. She did not bring characters to life with voice acting.
    Surprisingly mediocre
This one caught me off guard. I've been a huge fan of the Old Kingdom series. This book reads like mediocre tween fan-fiction.
I'm not saying it's a piece of crap. It's just so much worse in contrast to the other ones that it almost feels like.... something between a mix of disappointment and betrayal. I'm being ridiculous though.
Me. Nix is a fine writer. Goldenhand probably needed a heavier editing hand.
    Disappointing
I liked this series but this book is all over the place and is a very disappointing ending to a five book series. The first three books are narrated by Tim curry and they are so good. This narrator is horrible, like Siri or my car GPS was reading it out loud.
    I miss Tim Curry
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story line is very good. I'm happy this is a continuation right after Abhorsen. I miss Tim Curry reading the book.

    loved it
this was an amazing storyline! I love Amy's work and can't wait to go on to the next book. this series was great to see the characters change and grow
    Fantastic production and story
    Amy Ewing has quickly became
a favorite author of mine with The Lone City series. The fantastic plot and character development makes the story unforgettable. Erin Spencer's narration was incredible. I will be looking at all books that she's done. I highly recommend.
best series in a long time
by far one of the best overall series I've read in a long time. The storyline throughout the books has been fascinating, concise, and thoughtful. Unlike other series, where the later books devolve into winding complicated storylines that appear added on as after thoughts or are full of rambling ideas, this trilogy has offered an amazing thoughtful journey for every reader.
    Read it overnight!
Wow I've never enjoyed dystopian books like this. As soon as I started reading I couldn't stop so I read it all overnight.
Especially I really liked Erin Spencer's performance she really is the fast and the radiator and I would like to read everything that she had narrated.
One thing I really didn't like was the way Violet acted. I mean because of what she did.. what happened to Lucian.. that kind of thing is exactly what I'm talking about. Was that really necessary?
And here and there Violet's act make me so annoyed.
Other than that I really enjoyed the story and I would like to read this authors other books as well.
Erin Spencer she's the best narrator.
    Romantic and fun
I thought this book was a little bit cheesy, as are the rest in the trilogy, but I still enjoyed both the book and series. There were times I could guess what was going to happen long before we reached that point in the story. Overall, this was a fun one to listen to.

    Done with love triangles
Would you try another book from Kresley Cole and/or Emma Galvin?
    Yes
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I am so sick of love triangles. That's all i will say! I already hate that the main character has slept with BOTH of the guys. But to have her constantly going back and forth. I'm over this series! This will be my last.
Which character as performed by Emma Galvin was your favorite?
Death was probably my favorite. Emma Galvin did a great job voicing all the characters. She was the bright side to this story.
Did Arcana Rising inspire you to do anything?
Yes, NEVER read or write a book with love triangles.
    Any additional comments?
Evie needs to make a choice and stick with it.
    Loved It!
I have read the actual book a couple of times and have been checking every other day to see if the audio book had been published.
I, of course, love everything Kresley Cole writes and have even read the books that aren't on Audible.
I love the Arcana series and can hardly wait for the next installment.
You won't be disappointed with this book!
    I wanted to like it...
But this book was filled with rushed scenes, pathetic prose, and ridiculousness in general. I firmly believe that Ms. Cole threw this book together in haste just to get something into print.
THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD. Here's where I had my issues:
    1) The utterly pathetic Evie. Half of this book was just her whining about wanting revenge on Richter for Jack's "death." Then...nothing. No action, no plots, no schemes. She is supposedly one of the most powerful Arcana, yet she doesn't use her powers. She is wholly dependent on everyone else to do things for her. And all she does is whine.
    2) Dying Granny? Oh well! Evie spent the better part of the first three books trying to get to her grandmother for answers. Now she has her granny in the flesh, but just because she doesn't happen to like what her grandmother is saying, Evie writes her off as a crazy person. And the fact that her granny is dying doesn't even seem to make an impression. In fact, when the old lady dies, Evie is relieved! WTF??
    4) Jack/Death....Death/Jack. To Evie, these two men are apparently interchangeable. A few weeks of mourning the demise of her "soul mate" and Evie is rattling the headboard with Death.

    A simple fun story
Not the best book series I've ever read, but still worth a listen if you have some free time. It's quick and easy and doesn't require much thought (brain candy). There are some really nice undertones despite not being very long or descriptive. I would definitely recommend to younger girls looking to get into the fantasy genre.
Great Ending to a Strong YA Fantasy Trilogy
Where does Frost Like Night rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
My review from Goodreads, also it should be noted that I listened to the whole series on audio. The narration/performance is excellent, so once I listened to one, I had to listen to the whole trilogy:
The ending is so fantastic and satisfying that my initial impulse was to give this book a 5. Wow. That's the way to successfully wrap up a fantasy trilogy.
I have settled at a 4, just because there were some things in the first half that weren't quite as smooth for me. Overall, this is an excellent YA fantasy series, set in a fascinating and creative world, with plenty of dark magic to suit my dark side, and enough hope to please my often hidden light side.
It's a definite win, and I confess part of my confusion at the start might have been due to the gap of time from when I read the first two books. If you have time for a reread, I think that would be ideal. If not, definitely read a good summary or synopsis of the first two books before diving in, because it's a complex world with a lot of characters.
Good, but a teenage angst feel
    Narrator was fine.

    Beautiful Singular Story
A self contained masterpiece both in writing and narrative. Unique and haunting. Sci fi , fantasy, and romance well blended into the newest idea I've read in a long time.
    Good Book!
I enjoyed this book, however the narrator whispered throughout most of it. It became annoying 5 minutes in.
    Good story line
I loved the idea of the book but I had to return it because I did not enjoy the narrator's voice she was whisper-talking and you could here her deadly breathing.
The narrator kills it (not in a good way)
What did you like best about this story?
I found the premise and first chapter and a half interesting, but finally couldn't take the whiney stage whisper the narrator chose to use for the main character. I had my doubts from the audio sample, but I'll be getting my credit refunded for this book and reading it the old-fashioned way instead.
    Unusual World Concept
What about Thérèse Plummers performance did you like?
Her voice was very emotional, and fit the scenes and emotions she was reading perfectly. I found myself thinking more than once that it was a very good voice actor choice.
    Any additional comments?
This was a surprise hit for me. The summary sounded interesting enough to purchase on a sale, and I'm very glad I did. It's a very interesting concept, that everyone unwillingly loses everything about who they are except what they've written in their books. I fell right in with the characters and their emotions and driving ideas. Loved it!

Reporting the incidents makes Joy the uncomfortable object of PsiCorps' scrutiny, and the organization appears more interested in keeping her quiet than investigating. Joy's situation grows more precarious, and her relationship with her Psimon boyfriend, Josh, begins to fray. Long-held tensions between PsiCorps and the Hunters seem to be reaching a breaking point. While infighting threatens the stability of Apex City, Othersider forces are gaining strength and momentum outside the borders. Joy desperately seeks answers to figure out who her real enemies are before she and everyone she cares about are locked into an all-out war.

Great 2nd book in the series
Not quite as good as the first book (Hunter) but pretty close.
One of the things I've appreciated about both books are that they don't end on a HUGE cliffhanger. You know there's another book to come because there are unanswered questions, but each book has a satisfying ending.
All the characters from the first book are back (unless they died in book 1) and not only do we learn more about them but also more about everyone's abilities (the hunters, the simons, the hounds).
So once again, well-paced, well-written, well-developed characters, interesting plot. Although I will say there was more action in this one, and I could have use a bit less action.
This IS a YA novel - but it still a good listen
I find most Young Adult novels that use the main character's POV to be whinny and unreadable. This book has points where it approaches whinny teenager but they pass quickly. I listened to book 1&2 back to bak and while they were a good listen with a interesting plot, I won't be hunting the pre-orders list hunting for book 3.
There are better books, but these were good enough for the commute.
    Solidly Enjoyable
I enjoy the narrator--she somehow becomes Hunter Joy for me without changing her own voice at all.
The story is a little less predictable than the first book in the series, but I also had some trouble following the time series--events appear closer together when referenced later in the book than I thought they were hearing them the first time. Altogether, a well-told and enjoyable fantasy ride.
    Need next book stat
no one be does it like Mercedes. Truly in a class of her own. My favorite series so far and I live Valdemar's. This is timely and amazing. Lots of magic, tech, and (I prefer) 95% read speed the reader dies a great job as well. Next please!!!

    Publisher's Summary:
A companion to the best-selling Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, soon to be a major motion picture directed by Tim Burton.
Before Miss Peregrine gave them a home, the story of peculiars was written in the Tales.
Wealthy cannibals who dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. A fork-tongued princess. These are but a few of the truly brilliant stories in Tales of the Peculiar - the collection of fairy tales known to hide information about the peculiar world, including clues to the locations of time loops - first introduced by Ransom Riggs in his number-one best-selling Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series.
Riggs now invites you to share his secrets of peculiar history with a collection of original stories in this deluxe volume of Tales of the Peculiar, as collected and annotated by Millard Nullings, ward of Miss Peregrine and scholar of all things peculiar. This compelling, rich, and truly peculiar anthology is the perfect gift not only for fans but for all lovers of great storytelling.
    Critic Reviews:
"British actor Simon Callow delivers a delightfully whimsical performance of the collected stories that comprise this companion to the hugely popular Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children series. His refined pronunciation gives the impression that the stories are, in fact, revered folklore handed down through the ages. Even as Callow maintains the scholarly tone of the omniscient narrator, he effortlessly navigates between Norwegian, American, and Irish accents and, perhaps most memorably, the voices of fantastical creatures.... Devoted fans as well as newcomers to the world of the peculiar will be equally enchanted." (AudioFile)

    Amazing addition to the series...
I absolutely loved Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and when I found out Ransom Riggs was coming out with this before the movie comes out I had to read it. Amazing stories. So well thought out. The footnote made it seem that much closer to Non-fiction. The book is beautifully made with an amazing silk thread book mark that I never got to use, finished it right away. Couldn't stop and will definitely read again. LOVE!!!
Loved it, great supplement to the series
This felt like a great addition/supplement to the series... I only wish there were more stories!
Loved these stories of the peculiar children and animals. Please write more stories as soon as possible.
Delightful short stories from the peculiar world
This is such a fun book of peculiar tales that anyone can grow to love. You don't have to have read the novels to fall in love with this unique treasure. The narration is excellent; full of life and propriety. great short stories for children as well as adults. I think they would be fun to listen to or read aloud during October halloween time!
    Tales of the Peculiar
The history of the beginning of certain peculiars. It reads almost like Mother Goose but I hope a movie or two might spring from it.
