I lived in Teton Village Wyoming in the late 90's and Wilson for ten years. Doug Coombs was an event within himself. Big mountain skiing is filled huge egos, and even bigger personalities. Doug would have them all eating out his hands with his amazing vision of the possibilities in the mountains. He was able to envision the boundless potentials, but also inspire other adventurers that they were a part of his world. This book was able to evoke some serious emotions from me. The skiing community is a pretty tight as well as sensitive to outsiders. Rob has done a fantastic job of being respectful to this underpinning of the ski culture. This book is more than an account of a tragic accident, but a celebration of an inspiring individual. Doug was my hero. The day he died truly broke my heart. This book made me smile with the energy of the community, the love of his wife, and the respectful tribute to his son "David". You really have covered all the bases with this book. It's pretty funny how in his absence Doug Coombs was able to inspire from the great unknown and take someone else on a life changing adventure.

A MUST READ FOR ADVENTURE SEEKERS!

Loved this book! An adventure seekers perfect read, the author brings you along with him as he travels to all the incredible mountains that skiing pioneer legend Doug Coombs descended on a regular basis. Poor

A sporadic set of stories that have no real relevance to each other. The audiobook seems to wave in & out of past & present without a structure. Nothing in particular is new in terms of detail or knowledge & very boring narrator who gets simple pronunciation wrong. Overall a terrible audiobook that I persisted with thinking it would turn a corner.

Good but ...

The jumping around in time does not really serve any useful purpose, if anything it confuses as the themes are not strongly distinct.

It would be great if Raphael chose to narrate his own books. Hes got a good voice for audio, otherwise he wouldnt be on the radio!

Kloppo

Follow Jürgens love affair with football from birth to present. Real insight to the man with moments of comedy thrown in - like, Klopp on his player at Mainz, Tôni Da Silva the only Brazilian who cant play football.

Loved it and recommend it to friends.

Another great and insightful book from Raphael, let down a little by inconsistent and often incorrect pronunciations of names of people, places, systems and clubs.

Lots of Fun

its 6:53 in the morning and I've just finished listening to this book despite my intention to get back to sleep sometime before I had to get up and out for work. I resent this slightly. It's Michael Whitehall's fault for being so winning. He's got great charisma and is a gifted narrator. The book wanders a little, here and there, but who cares. Lots of references and names dropped may be lost on an American audience but you get the point, even if you've never heard of Sir Rupert Skirting-Board or Penelope Chipping Cleghorn or whatever. I came for the personality and the voice and stayed for that and enjoyed it all. I'm glad Michael stuck his head over the parapet and became an entertainer.

couldnt switch off!

i loved this ! I have enjoyed Michael's appearances on TV with Jack and find his irascible style very endearing! Hes clearly had an interesting life and it comes across in this book. He tells the story very well- his delivery is what I expected it to be and that makes me laugh anyway! I was sad when it finished as it has made what would otherwise be boring car journeys up the A1 really very enjoyable!

Utterly charming and bitingly funny

Listened to it in one and it didn't disappoint. Fascinating and funny anecdotes, delivered in wonderful deadpan.

Hilarious and charming

I think Michael plays a brilliant part when seen on TV with his son Jack.

Great book, poor audio editing

Like all of Danny Bakers books this is fantastic - he is a great story teller.

However, there are dozens of occasions within the audio recording where Danny restarts sentences and these have not been edited out.

Glorious glorious Candyman

Oh I have just had the loveliest few weeks listening to all three books. Its been like having Danny back on the radio in my drive home. Have never read or listened to a better written or performed biog. Stands up and applauds. Thank you Candyman.

Perfect

Ah Danny, I love you mate. Of the 3 volumes this is perhaps the saddest but Danny comes through it in such a down to earth way that you feel churlish for breaking down in tears. I love you Danny.

Love it

There is a very different feel to this third book as it covers the death of the author's much loved dad and his own battle with cancer. There are still lots of hilarious anecdotes but the passing of Spud is dealt with with great tenderness while his description of his cancer treatment pulls no punches. I have enjoyed all three books in this series, perhaps because he describes so well a world I also grew up in. As he says he remembers everything but I seem to have forgotten so much so it is great to be reminded of a different time.

In equal measure. A great listen- although 2 or 3 editing errors in the final version- come on audible- what happened to quality control?

Delightful.

Matt gives an enchanting peek inside his wild ride of a life. I didn't know exactly who he was when I began, I had only seen the Q2 Les Miz on PBS. I wondered why would he write a memoir? I am glad that I took a chance on it. It is full of interesting antidotes from a life in comedy, the theatre and many notes from just living. It is very enjoyable and I highly recommend it.

Sadly Dissapointing

I love Matt Lucas and still do but just did not get this book. There was one really funny and entertaining chapter on his relationship with food but that was really it for humor. I'm fine with a good biography and the lack of comedy in itself was understandable in some ways, but overall the book was a narrative timeline of his career. This happened and then that happened. We met this person then that person and so on and so on all the way to the end.

Meh

Well, I am a huge fan of Little Britain but this memoir left me.....wanting. Not as entertaining as I would expect - a lot of it was just downright mundane. I dont know if my expectations were too high, but I could have passed. Seems as if it didnt come out of a full life but rather a deal with Audible solely for the purpose of making cash. While I can respect that, it doesnt make for a compelling listen.

If you are a huge fan AND have nothing else to spend your credit on then maybe, but come to think of it if I hadnt listened to this there would still be some mystery for me and I would have continued to idolized him. Now I no longer do.

I think John Cleese did a better job on his memoir - beautifully written and entertaining. Sorry Matt :(

Bright & Breezy

Matt Lucas understandably doesnt want to go into the most hurtful aspects of his life & is very candid about that. This is a bright & breezy account of his work but he does touch on a lot the trials & tribulations hes had to overcome. A really well read & entertaining audio.

This was my first audible experience and I enjoyed it! he has an engaging style and his delivery is lively and keeps the listener interested.

A Welcome Culinary Biography

This book deserves the rave reviews it has gotten. Patience Gray was an important catalyst in cooking in the mid-twentieth century. I knew Plats du jour but kept going back to Honey from a Weed. What I loved about her writing was the way it contextualized food in the life of people. Now this book contextualizes her books in the life of a highly gifted and original woman.
