    Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author Richard Koch shows managers how to apply the 80/20 Principle to achieve exceptional results at work - without stress or long hours.
In his best-selling audiobook The 80/20 Principle, Richard Koch showed listeners how to put the 80/20 Principle - the idea that 80 percent of results come from just 20 percent of effort - into practice in their personal lives. Now in The 80/20 Manager, he demonstrates how to apply the principle to management. An 80/20 manager learns to focus only on the issues that really matter, achieving exceptional results, and feeling successful everyday while working less hard in fewer hours.
A large number of managers - especially in these difficult times - feel completely overwhelmed. Their inboxes are overflowing and they constantly struggle to finish their to-do lists, leaving little time for the things that really matter. The 80/20 Manager shows a new way to look at management - and at life - to enjoy work and build a successful and fulfilling career.

Maxwell believes that any setback, whether professional or personal, can be turned into a step forward when you possess the right tools to turn a loss into a gain. Drawing on nearly fifty years of leadership experience, Dr. Maxwell provides a roadmap for winning by examining the eleven elements that constitute the DNA of learners who succeed in the face of problems, failure, and losses.
    1. Humility - The Spirit of Learning 2. Reality - The Foundation of Learning 3. Responsibility - The First Step of Learning 4. Improvement - The Focus of Learning 5. Hope - The Motivation of Learning 6. Teachability - The Pathway of Learning 7. Adversity - The Catalyst of Learning 8. Problems - The Opportunities of Learning 9. Bad Experiences - The Perspective for Learning 10. Change - The Price of Learning 11. Maturity - The Value of Learning

It takes a good fall to remember why you want to stand.
I love this book. It is another great piece of work by John C Maxwell. He does have an excellent way of taking the cookie jar off the top shelf and putting it where you can reach it.
I highly recommend this book as an addition to people in Recovery. It is a great way to see the same principles of learning as you find in 12 Step programs including lessons on humility and pride. It discusses how to deal with adversity in a positive way and how to overcome the things we call failures to make them learning experiences without damaging self talk that runs us back to whatever we go to to lick our wounds in an unhealthy manner.
It is an awesome book from a great man who knows how to make it easy to learn the things to be successful in anything you put your mind to.
Good book for reflecting, bad narration
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
No. I've heard Maxwell narrate a number of his own books and this does not capture the reflection I'd expect. I feel like the meaning is diminished or changed as a result.
What did you like best about this story?
    Good things to reflect upon.
Would you be willing to try another one of Chris Sorensens performances?
No - found it quite distracting.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    Chapter on humility.
    Must listen!
There's is so much insight in this book that you must listen too it, probably several times in order to get all the value out of it, this much wisdom packed into one small book doesn't come around too often! Enjoy!!!
    Learn Everyday From Yourself
Making conscious efforts to learn from your shortcomings, failures, challenges and unconscious mistakes is a school on its own. Invest in your money; buy this book.
    It was on point
It did exactly what I thought it would. Refreshed my motivation and kept me full of can-do power.
And as you know, John can trusted to not come from some crazy pop-psychology angle, only solid teaching.

  • The Heart of Leadership Audiobook by Mark Miller

    Title: The Heart of Leadership
Subtitle: Becoming a Leader People Want to Follow
    Author: Mark Miller
    Narrator: Jim Manchester
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 50 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-07-13
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 131 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
In this short, easy-to-listen fable, best-selling author Mark Miller reveals five habits that underlie leadership character and that determine a leader's success - and he teaches leaders how to develop these habits.
Like Miller's previous books, this one follows the life, learning, and influence of Debbie Bruster. Here she finds herself mentoring Blake Brown, the son of her former mentor. Rather than answer Blake's questions about leadership directly, Debbie introduces him to other leaders, each of whom shares a unique perspective on what really makes a leader successful. As Blake puts the pieces together, he discovers his problem is not one of skills but of character - that leadership is more about the heart of the leader than the head or hands. In fact, Miller summarized these traits with the acronym HEART: Hunger for Wisdom, Expect the Best, Accept Responsibility, Respond with Courage, and Think Others First.
With the help of his new friends and mentors, Blake is able to build a plan to transform his heart. The good news is that leadership is not just the purview of the few - it is within reach for millions of aspiring leaders around the world.
This book is the road map they need to get their lives and careers on track.

    Changed my Heart
When I started reading, I didn't like how it was a conversation( the whole book) but as I reached the second chapter, I started seeing why it was like that. I look forward to talking about it to friends and co workers. A really good quick read.
    Lead with your Heart
Great book! Challenges you to be a Servant Leader! I look forward to reading more from Mark Miller!
    Get smart
Good content that will be valuable. Unfortunately I was looking forward to the end of the audio book only a quarter of the way in. I had a very hard time listening to the narrator. His was of halting and dropping tone drew my attention away from the message. It constantly reminded me of Don Adams playing Maxwell Smart, combined with William Shatner.
    Great book

    Read in reverse order
This is the first book in Mike's series of books and having listened to them in reverse order, the insights Mike provides in later books with regards to the context in which this book played out help put it into perspective.
A great performance with a good story but I would encourage everyone to read Mike's other books first.
    I am a TPE
What did you love best about The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur?
Ironically, I read this book last of all 3 of Mike's books. Still loved it. I am have had a company for almost 2 years and though much of the book still applies to me, I only wish I read it 2 years ago. I love that Mike brings it as he is, like it or not!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mike! As a young business owner I felt the chill in my spine and fire in my stomach when Mike mentioned he started at 24 years old; I am 24 now.
    Any additional comments?
Having read all 3 of Mike's books I can honestly say they speak for themselves. Even if you don't like the accents and cheesy humor, you will eventually! If I ever have the pleasure of meeting Mike Michalowicz someday I only hope to buy him a beer! Cheers, Mike!
    brilliantly unorthodox. intelligently uncouth.
What made the experience of listening to The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur the most enjoyable?
Chock-full of useful information, while being not in the least bit dry.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur?
play-by-play narration of a public restroom 3-sheets dilemma.
What about Mike Michalowiczs performance did you like?
energy, enthusiasm, and clearly in the author's voice because he self-narrated :-P
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed early, I laughed often, and I laughed hard.
    Any additional comments?
TPE is the "how to start a lean business" book. The Pumpkin Plan (also by Mike Michalowicz and also on Audible) is the "how to grow beyond your plateau" book. Both are irreverent and full of great ideas.
Just what this 60 year old needed to renegade.
I had almost checked out on my 32 year old business.......nearly lost the passion. Listening fired me up.
I'm telling everyone it's important they stop what they are doing and listen to the entire book NOW!
    Daddy Rabbit
    Great listen.
Mike is a great motivator with some great advice.

    Thank you for useful information
Would you listen to The Essential HR Handbook again? Why?
I would listen to it several times, as it includes very useful tips and advice.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Recruitment questions were very deep and important
Have you listened to any of Sheila Books other performances before? How does this one compare?
    Shelia has done wonderful job
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    first chapters are very informative
    Any additional comments?
Looking for more books from the authors
    Read like 'How it's made'
I can usually listen to any audiobook, but this one is super hard to listen to. It just lists steps and skips over the why. Seems like baseline knowledge. Written and read like a grocery list.
Save the credit buy the paper version
What would have made The Essential HR Handbook better?
Just be in paper. There are a lot of checklists, repetition and boring. This is a lot of common sense and if you do not already know a lot of this then you should not be in HR or a Manager.
Laws are specific to the jurisdiction you are operating your business in, therefore it is good practice to consult legal counsel do not go by what a general book says.
What do you think your next listen will be?
    A leadership book
Would you be willing to try another one of Sheila Books performances?
    No
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Essential HR Handbook?
A lot of the checklists and I would have made them available as reference material.
    Any additional comments?
Common sense. Respect your employees, pay well and have open communication. Do not promote or create a work environment of two faced or stab in the back. Be consistent.
To attract and retain top talent, pay enough to live decently in the area your business is in.
I think managers are better off focusing on being good managers and have the print version on hand but focus on self development.
And above all, do not have the work environment threatening they employees will constantly get the ax. That is not going to make your employees feel good rather it will promote anxiety and resentment and you will have a high turnover.
Respect your employees and have healthy work boundaries and I also recommend Miss Manners Minds Your Business. That book has a lot of helpful information for businesses.

In this perfectly quick listen, #1 New York Times best-selling author John C. Maxwell explains how true leadership works. It is not generated by your title. In fact, being named to a position is the lowest of the five levels every effective leader achieves. By combining the advice contained in this audiobook with skill and dedication, you can reach the pinnacle of leadership - where your influence extends beyond your immediate reach for the benefit of others.

"When it comes to leadership, inspiration is just as important - if not more so - than information. John Maxwell offers both. The 5 Levels of Leadership will not only tell you how to climb higher, it will give you the motivation you need to reach the top." (Dan T. The book of Successful Lists
Would you try another book from John C. Maxwell and/or Chris Sorensen?
If you've read anything by John Maxwell then you know most everything in this book. I really, in many ways felt like it was the cliff notes version of John's outlook on leadership. While it's concepts are good I certainly would recommend it more to someone who is just starting down the road of Maxwell Leadership not to someone who's read him, or other leadership books extensively. Still my biggest gripe was the format of the book. It should have just been called "The Book of Successful Lists" because everything in this book was a list. After a while I was just pulling my hair out every time I heard "Here's the 5 things that..." because almost certainly within that 5 was another list of 3. It just was annoying to me and I lost interest about half way through. Again, if you're new to leadership then this might be a book for you, but for someone who's read up on it both the style and substance were lacking.
    Sooo good!
This book was so good I am going to go buy it now. I nodded my head along & said AMEN like every sentence. 10/10
