This book is so thoroughly enjoyable that I can state that the only disappointment is that it ends! Walking a spiritual path can get a little, shall we say, serious. The author grabs the funny-bone tickler in her book, and wields it with delicious skill. Oh my gosh. I didn't realize how hungry I was on my own path for this kind of up-lifting, down-home, angelic humor. The lesson I take away is that laughter and joy are essential to peeling back more of the veil. I'm left with the most beautiful feelings of wonder at the mystery and sacredness of it all. Thank you Ann Crawford!

This Book Sparkles!

This spirited story is a delightful glimpse into all things human, as seen through the eyes of angels. I laughed my way through every page of this hilarious adventure, thoroughly enjoying Ann Crawford's wry and witty style. But the reason that I recommend this book so highly is that it has stayed with me long after my last chuckle. The simple and beautiful spiritual gems contained in these pages continue to whisper to my heart with the voice of truth.

My Favorite Things

Three of my favorite things are: being surprised in a delightful way, being moved by insight and kindness and feeling that I am in the presence of something deeply truthful and personally valuable. Ann Crawford's book, Angels on Overtime, delivers all in a way that's entertaining and fresh. It's so satisfying to read a book that is full of spiritual insight that's also a fun and easy reading journey. Because it's fun, it's a quick read but the truth and value of the ideas explored in Ann's book remain.

Illuminates the sacrifices and potential trauma of the missionary kid

Although this novel is perhaps the extreme example of how missionary kids can potentially be pushed to the sidelines of an overzealous mission, it holds an important place in the bookshelf of all those wanting to help or befriend missionary kids. It also poignantly displays how a missionary wife potentially suppresses their own needs due to the concept of being a "submissive" and "good" missionary wife. And even explores the concept that some missionaries may lose sight of the true nature of God and relationship with him as they focus on following a man-made calling. Of course, it is important for any reader to realize that this is not the story of every missionary rather a small minority of them. It is beautifully written and poignant and the truths and even the warnings will certainly stay with you, especially if you yourself are a missionary!

Wow! I won't forget this one.

A superb debut by a fine new Christian novelist!

Colleen Scott has made a great impression with her debut novel, a suspenseful story with a romantic side story and (though not the primary basis of the story) a pro-life message. Being unalterably pro-life myself I can understand why some pro-choice advocates might pass on this novel for that reason. But if my review has any influence on on those who favor the "choice" side of the abortion debate, I urge them to read the novel for the very fine suspense story and for its balanced insight of how Christians--on the whole pro-life--ought to conduct themselves toward women who have experienced abortions and may believe that they are--or are thought by Christians to be--irredeemably bound for hell, with no hope of heaven. For there are many women who do have abortions because of inconvenience, shame, or other factors, and afterward carry a burden of doubt, wondering whether that "choice" has cost them dearly throughout eternity. The last thing they need is the condemnation of Christians, discouraging them from making an intelligent "choice" to accept forgiveness and lay aside their burdens. "Misconceptions" takes a healthy, balanced view of a post-abortion mindset, and offers hope to those who struggle to know the ultimate outcome of their choices. But whatever your pro-life or pro-choice stance might be, I heartily recommend this fine novel by a very promising author. The characters are well developed and believable and the plot is well-written and moves at a good pace. A good read!

religous mystery thriller

I normally dont like religous based stories, but this was a page turning thriller. besides the story being well written, it reenforced my spiritual being.it was a great book. the only fact that was a typo. the pistol was a .357 not a.35. the ending was not quite what I expected and the actual solution was a complete s u rprise.

Paige, she is struggling with inner demons but she is working on them.

very sad. but inspirational

it has to be very difficult and heartbreaking to loose a child but two at once I can't imagine how horrific the pain the heart break. although sad it was a beautiful story well done, the ending makes you stop and think is my mind playing tricks on me or was the chaplain there . you must by the book you won't be sorry the narrator was perfect for this story great voice.

The Suffering of Innocents

A family has it all careers, home, children and lots of love. The unthinkable happens and lives change. A sad story about surviving and finding a "New Normal."

We even get a visit from an unexpected person.

The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed.

Good story, questionable editing and narration

Details:

I enjoy a good story, especially if it has a Christian context. That is the case with this book. There is endless stories that could be written about the struggles of good people and how they can relate to the book of Job. This book does just that with a couple with three children.

I am an optimistic person and look for the best in people and in books, but there were two things that I had a difficult time getting over while listening to this audio book and I think they kind of go hand in hand. First, I found the narration very dull and almost robotic. While the narrator has a nice speaking voice and is easy to understand; he is almost too easy to understand. When we read, we don't read every word; just like when we listen, we don't hear every word that is being said. The narrator over enunciates each word, so for me, it didn't flow at all.

I also struggled with the editing of the story. Unnecessary redundancy is something that taught early and often in writing classes, but seems to be excessive in this book. An example that comes to mind is; "... he needed to get the boys before 5:00 PM. When Sam pulled up in front of the Sunshine Day care, it was about 5 minutes before 5:00 PM." To me, that just doesn't sound natural.

Short story of new marriage and family.

I enjoyed the story. However it jumps over time quickly. Such as one chapter just learning about being a mail order bride and next all ready on stage heading west. It was shorter then expected. Thought was paying for longer story. There are 2 more parts of other books included to order when this story ends.

Voracious Reader

Great story of love and of faith. The hardships we may have to go through and how with faith, and God's help we can get through them

Enjoyable Audio. Nice story.

I was sent the Audio as a gift from the author. This is the first audio book I have read and really liked it. The audio made the story more alive, I guess you could say. The male in the audio is really good even though I did chuckle when he used the older female's 'voice' - but he was really good. AND the story, itself, was well written - as well as, very nicely voiced.

Not so sure I will listen to too many audio books, just because I am a printed book lover and it took me awhile to get used to eBooks, which I now really like. But I can see that for the blind or someone, especially older people, would really like the audio books. I think my mother would have really liked audio books because she was always a avid reader but for several years before she died, she was unable to hold a book, at least not for very long.

Insecure

Emma Winston is left bereft when her parents die. Though they lived a life of the wealthy in Boston, there is nothing left after debts are paid. Jim Hagen lives by himself on his ranch in Star Creek, Colorado. His help lives off the place and he is lonely. Each decides that a Mail Order spouse is the answer. Emma doesn't know anything about cooking or cleaning or laundry. But Jim is patient and kind. He even hires a woman to teach her the skills she needs. Emma is beginning to feel differently about Jim when tragedy strikes and his infant nephew comes to live with them. Emma's heart reaches out to the baby but she knows nothing about caring for an infant. Then a terrible thing happens. Will their faith pull them through?

I liked the story but I felt that it needed a little bit more.
