It's the 150th anniversary of the wreck of the Triton, a ship that foundered off the coast of Finny, California. A team of college students arrives to film a documentary, and pregnant Ruth is pressed into service. She must reenact the life of survivor Indigo Orson, a woman who managed the perils of gold rush California by disguising herself as a man. Indigo's writing reveals there was treasure aboard the Triton, a rich prize shrouded in secrecy.
While her beloved husband, Monk, is away, Ruth stumbles on the body of one of the film's crew. His death turns out to be the furthest thing from an accident.
Adding to the chaos, Ruth's estranged son arrives and Monk's niece faces heartbreak at the hands of Finny's police detective. Faced with murder, mayhem and mommy hood, Ruth had better find some answers fast.

Descent
I didn't realize this was a Christian mystery (my fault I overlooked that). I doubt I would have listened to it had I known. It was, however, not "in your face" nor was it very frequent. It really rolled with the story line. The mystery itself was okay, even alright. Narration was awesome and was my favorite part of this novel. Although I am making it sound as if I didn't enjoy this book, I actually did and didn't check to see how much listening I had left. Not sure if I'd listen to another in the series. I think I would. Nice to listen to a different lifestyle (ocean community). It was well written and good characters - that goes a long way with me.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Any additional comments?
I was sent three audiobooks in the series to review.
A Christian novel, but not overbearing. I don't usually inbibe a work when described as "Christian". This series isn't pushy. Finny is a town in Central Coastal California, by the way. All three have been worth a listen and more.
