The MacGregor Legacy #3

This is the third book in this series. The first book is called For Love or Loyalty, and the second one is called For Love or Country.

Charlotte is crushed. Her twin sister is dead and sheâs leaving her home to travel far away. She promised her sister that she would take care of her nephew and brand new niece. She also needs to keep an eye on her sisterâs husband, David, as well. Heâs fallen into a deep depression and she fears for him.

Conrad is Davidâs brother and chose the sea over Charlotte six years ago. Heâs come to regret that decision. Not understanding their grief, he pushes his brother and Charlotte to move on with their lives. Charlotte resents his interference and is determined to guard her heart against falling in love with him again. Conrad is going to have a hard road convincing Charlotte heâs changed.

This was a good story, but it has a bittersweet ending. Charlotte is Hugh and Tyraâs daughter and there are mentions of some of the other family members, but itâs okay to read these out of order. Not usually being a fan of this time period, the series was a good one and I recommend it.

Christ-focused fiction that is truly fun to read.

While I have been a Christian since 1971, and a reader of fiction since 1955, only in 2013 have I combined the two. Tom Thiele's noteworthy work certainly speaks to people like me, who grew up believing that technology and science would secure our collective future. That future is now here, our real-world lives amply and ably defined by Thiele. Thiele's time-travel theme certainly fascinates us today, and his technical explanation is simply fun-gloss; this is not a science text, nor should a fiction reader expect it to be. To the author I say first "nicely done!", and second I encourage that you ignore those who are 'tired of being preached to'. As an ex-sheriff's deputy and as a higher education teacher, I can assure you that a percentage of mankind will be happy at nothing. Meanwhile, to the potential reader, I encourage you to buy this book and enjoy the development of an entertaining story, and give thought to the contained message. Every work of fiction has one!

Wonderful Journey

I loved this book. It is truly inspirational and thought provoking.

As a Christian, I read quite a few Christian books, and when I started reading this one I was somewhat disappointed. It seemed to be so contrived and light-weight (time travel? ;-)

But once I got further into it, to the "meat" of the book, I was hooked, and couldn't put it down.

Jesus' teachings were delivered in such a readable format, deeply meaningful yet entertaining.

I hope this book will lead more people to actually read the Bible from cover to cover. I admit I haven't completed that yet, but this book spoke to my heart and soul and I know that I will.

Thank you so much Mr. Thiele for this wonderful gift.

Thought provoking

I started reading this a year ago, couldn't get into it. Going though my kindle file the title came up again so I decided to try it again. I finished the book with many thoughts and perplexing questions. I really like the story, it almost feels real. Greatly appreciate being led back to it. Now onward to Eternity....highly recommend.

Grandma knows best.

Strong wills definitely run in this family. Sara Jane is dismayed with her Grandma's choice of a handyman. She is ashamed to admit his unkempt looks turn her off. Soon, though, Grandma's real plan becomes apparent, and the reluctant youngsters seem to have no choice in the matter. As they begin to accept Grandma's plans, they find God's will in the bargain. A great story of two people dealing with their own baggage while being happily swept away.

Loved it

What an awesome book. I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the history in it as well as the knowledge of how easy it is to return to God, when we feel we have let him down. Now on to look for more of this series... Great work ladies... ")

The series of books is really good

Every book of this series is so well written and so real in the reading . The people in the stories are as if they were living now though each book is written in a different time in history. The entire series is a joy to read in the faith that is the basis of each .

Path of freedom

This was a great book. It show how young people help a slave couple to have freedom. Today people don't realize how we live in a free country. We should. All have this freedom. A great ending on two stubborn people found love.

Enjoyable Viiew of Troubled History

found this to be a very interesting view of the underground railroad. how wonderful that people helped slaves find freedom at great cost to themselves. this was a most enjoyable read.

Delightful cozy mystery

If you like a novel that has a cozy mystery (no dead bodies, no violence (well, except maybe for a clunk on the head), the kind of mystery that makes you smile while it's solved, I've got the book for you.Cathy Elliott, has written a delightful mystery with a missing broach, that clunk on the head I mentioned, and a quilt show (including a very valuable family heirloom quilt...which is part of the mystery, of course.) Oh, and I almost forgot, it's got the perfect title: A Stitch in Crime! This is a delightful cozy mystery.

Delightful Cozy Mystery; Good Wordplay

In this well-constructed cozy mystery, Cathy Elliott brings back Thea James, the heroine of A Vase of Mistaken Identity, but knowledge of that novel is not needed to enjoy this one.

Thea has accepted the position as co-chair of her town's first "Annual Quilt Show." But at the potluck supper days before the main event, things are not going smoothly. Prudy Levasich, her co-chair, is conspicuous by absence, and their honored guest and to-be judge of the quilt contest does not show up. Then an elderly lady, one of the chief sponsors of the quilt show, receives a blow on the head and is hospitalized. Due to concussion, she can't remember if someone hit her or if she just fell. And her expensive jeweled brooch is missing.

And on the following evening, the famous quilt "Larkin's Treasure," borrowed for the exhibition at the quilt show, is stolen out of its glass case in the local museum.

I really loved this hopeful uplifting and informative story. Although there were times when I wanted to shake Nina I know that all things work together for good.

I appreciate that the book did not bash me over the head with references to God. I could see him working through out the book.

Great Characters and a lovely book!!

Quilted by Christmas by Jodie Bailey is fantastic! A very enjoyable read - I love the characters....the depth of the characters and their relationships were very well written....it made me want to read more about them....Taryn and Justin - their relationship, each character's struggle - was very well written - it rang true ....my only complaint was I didn't want it to end . You surprised me with the plot twist. I would love to spend some time with Jemma and Marne, and I think there might be a book due about Rachel and Mark. Author Jodie Bailey - I was impressed because I come from this region of the country and you captured some of the colloquialisms in a realistic and true way that wasn't condescending....your sense of setting and place...I really liked it!! This book was a wonderful Sunday read, and the way you shared your faith was beautiful!!! Thank you for writing such a wonderful book - I can't wait to read what you write next. Also, your handling of the military aspect of Justin's character was so well done - you addressed it without demeaning which is of course because you are an awesome Army Wife! I can really see how God is using your gift as a writer!! Keep on keeping on - when can I read something else? You are GREAT!!! I don't know how your contract works, but I really would love another book about these characters and this community -not that my opinion matters . These characters and the town had that Mitford quality that I like in a book where the community around the characters becomes as important as the plot and characters themselves. I could see myself reading this book again. My only complaint was I didn't want it to end yet!

Quilted By Christmas: Quilts of Love Series

Taryn grew up knowing her dad didn't love her and viewed her as an inconvenience in a marriage he was trapped in. When history began to repeat itself, her dad wouldn't allow her to do what would have been right. Twelve years has passed and Taryn has a chance to work with God to make things right. I loved the relationship Taryn had with her Grandma Jemma. It made me miss my Grandma and the bond between us. I love Ms. Bailey's suspense stories, but I also love this story.

Very good!

Great read! Makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you just feel good. Not too many books make you that glad you read the book. This one gets 5 stars all the way from beginning to end.

A Tale of Two Tianic Survivors

This is the love stories of two women, Lydia and Caroline, who were on the Titanic. Life did not turn out how they'd expected, but they knew love, and so did their children. I was disappointed with their choices at times and some of the plot points didn't make much sense to me. For example, I was disappointed Lydia allowed her first husband to be erased, as if he never existed. If she was as deeply in love with him as she said, I don't think a young, idealistic woman would have done this, especially when she knew she was having his baby. Still, however, for the most part, I found the novel interesting, despite the melancholy that hung over it. Somewhere around 75%, when the book became more about the children and grandchildren, the book started telling about what was happening, instead of showing. It would have been better to have taken more time and done it right, even if there had to be a second novel. In fact, Caroline's granddaughter's love story actually deserved to be a novel in itself.

Hearts That Survive was such a great book.

Hearts That Survive was such a great book. Yes, there was a lot of sadness (that can be expected from a book about the Titanic), but the characters and their journeys were so gripping.

I immediately loved John and Lydia's love story... it was so sweet and just overall wonderful. I cried when certain things happened and especially towards the end with the poem.

It was very interesting how Hearts That Survive covered generations (not just one person's life) - I loved getting to know Caroline, Alan, Beau, and others... it was great!

So, overall, I loved this book and recommend it if you don't mind reading a novel with some sadness... have tissues nearby!

Still a bit uncertain

There were portions of this book that i thought were beautifully descriptive, had a very nice flow and were incredibly eloquent. Then there were other parts where I felt like I was stuck on the spin cycle. The author tended to repeat herself a lot and there were things added to the book that I honestly didn't feel even fit in keeping with the story.

I was a little surprised when the main character suddenly transitioned, although delighted that the story spanned such a long time period.

Skip It

While the plot for this book was acceptable, the writing was (as this author might describe it) like an overproduced orchestration of Mary Had A Little Lamb. Unnecessary words and repetitious descriptions abound - again and again and again. Similes and metaphors (mostly ridiculous ones) are two or more to a page. There is nothing wrong with the author's underlying writing ability, someone just needs to help her tell the story and leave a lot more of the descriptive elements and emotional tugs to the reader's imagination (at one point the main character's love for her husband "welled up" twice on one page!). It was a struggle to finish this book and the only way I did was to skip whole pages and read only those related to plot movement.

What a Page-Turner!

A true page-turner which I was lucky enough to find on Amazon's Kindle store for free (at the moment, it is listed at $ 10,80).

Marilyn Brown Oden starts the book with a quotatin from Charles Péguy:

"Everything begins in mysticism and ends in politics."

Since I had never come across his name before, I had a quick look at Wikipedia to find out who he was: a French poet, essayist and editor who lived from 1873 to 1914, socialism and nationalism being his two main philosophies. When he turned Catholic, his new-found faith strongly influenced his works.

Back to the story: The heroine, Bishop Lynn Peterson from New Orleans, witnesses the assasination of a friend, New Orleans Saints kicker Elie Darwish. She is sure that she can link the sniper to the mime who stood on the pavement right up until the shooting, and is equally sure she sees the same man again on a streetcar the next day.

Around the same time, the bishop and her husand, Galen, are invited to a dinner with the Vice President. Galen has to leave early after an emergency phone call, and Lynn is asked to ride to the airport in the Vice President's limousine. There, she learns that the President (in this book, a woman named Helena Benedict) wishes her to hand a confidential letter to a friend in Europe, where Lynn and Galen are scheduled to travel anyway.

Lynn doesn't know why the President needs to make use of her as an unofficial channel of communication but accepts the task, not even telling Galen about it.
