Follow their unlikely friendship through the challenges of a race and Dion's struggle to bring Gobi home for good.
Finding Gobi: The True Story of One Little Dog's Big Journey is the incredible true story of Dion Leonard, an athlete who was befriended by a stray dog while running an ultramarathon through the Gobi Desert. Named for the desert in which he found her, Gobi became Dion's closest companion for 77 miles of the 155-mile race across China. The scrappy little pup ran mile after mile alongside Dion, through treacherous conditions and across raging rivers. He let her sleep in his tent and share his food, and eventually his focus shifted from winning to the newfound friendship he and Gobi shared.
They crossed the finish line together - not first, but together - and Dion decided to bring Gobi home to Scotland. Just before they were about to leave, however, Gobi disappeared, setting off a worldwide search for the stray. In a town of more than three million people, the search seemed hopeless, but this tale of friendship will surprise and delight you as you find out what happens!
Join the almost too good to be true story of hope, friendship, and beating incredible odds in Finding Gobi: The True Story of One Little Dog's Big Journey by Dion Leonard.

    Simply delightful!
Would you consider the audio edition of Finding Gobi: Young Reader's Edition to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version so I can't say but I found the audio version just delightful! The narration and story just fit together so well.
What other book might you compare Finding Gobi: Young Reader's Edition to and why?
I don't know of any similar books I've read.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The first part when Dion meets Gobi and they become friends.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The part when he had to find Gobi. I knew it was going to be OK but it was a bit tense to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
I think this would be great for parents and children to listen to together.

read a chapter to my 4 year old daughter every night, and it relaxes her and helps her ease into sleep really easy!
Imagination time together with our 4 year old son :-)
I have been doing these (from Lolli and the Lollipop onwards) with our four year old son and we both absolutely love this fun imagination time together :-) He's even started to talk to Lolli as an individual and asks her questions and rushes off to get books to show her during the adventure. It's a really good age to do these adventures as our son loves using his imagination and stories so hopefully getting him introduced to concepts before they're a problem can help prepare the way for later.
This set includes 1) Lolli and the Magical Kitchen talks different types of foods and the importance of sleep and a couple of recipes for lovely food that's good before going to sleep, 2) Lolli and the Rose Garden talks about emotions and understanding what they are and that's it's good to feel emotions, even the ones that you need to work through. rather than hiding them, 3) Lolli and the Blue-Footed Boobies involves helping the BFBs cheer up when they are sad and entertain them when they are bored plus encouragement to talk even when you're feeling shy.
The adventures with Lolli get more and more fun with each book
The adventures with Lolli get more and more fun with each book. In this one kids have fun cooking with Lolli and learning the importance of device free time near bedtime especially.

Length: 7 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-08-17
    Publisher: Spoken Realms
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
The Burgess Bird Book for Children introduces children to the fascinating subject of bird life in storybook fashion. Thornton Burgess uses Peter Rabbit as a means for younger children to learn about birds in the Green Forest and Green Meadows. On the journey through the book, Peter learns a great deal from sassy Jenny Wren and other neighbors.
Listeners learn about common birds' physical appearance, eating, nesting habits, and songs and calls. The author notes that he wrote this book to supply a definite need - to prepare a volume for those who, at the time, felt a lack of satisfactory medium to introduce bird life to little children.
Thornton W. Burgess was a conservationist and author of children's stories. He loved the beauty of nature and its living creatures so much that he wrote about them for 50 years. By the time he retired, he had written over 170 books and 15,000 stories for a daily newspaper column.

    Something's missing
The written parts are the same as the older and original, but the most importatnt part is missing--no pictures. It is very difficult to have a bird identification book without pictures. Very disappointing.

The stories are wonderful. You get to know each of the type of birds through Peter Rabbit's relationships and interactions with the different characters. My never sit still 5 year old son will ask me to read 'Jenny Wren.' Great book.
    Love this book
Love this book! I read aloud to my children, we learn many facts about birds we would have never known due to Mr Burgess's knowledge of these many creatures. Great for education and a classic nature must have!
No photos but same text as old book
I owned this book as a child and it had beautiful photos in it of the birds. Sadly the book got left behind in a move many years ago. This book is the same text but is not quite the same without the photos. However, it is certainly worth a read. I think I'll download some bird photos from the internet when I read this to my grandchild.

Fabulous! Enchanting! BUT.... No illustrations in this Kindle edition
Our 10, 7 & 4 year old LOVED this book but do be aware that even though the illustrations are listed at the front of this Kindle edition there are actually none to be found! Or at least not in my copy! 8 different tales of dragons with princesses, boys and girls etc.
The stories included are as follows:
The Book of Beasts - Lionel becomes king at a young age and opens up a book belonging to his grandfather out of which flies a butterfly, a blue bird of Paradise and a red dragon.
Uncle James, or the Purple Stranger - Princess Mary Ann and Tom live on Rotundia where the animals are all the wrong sizes. Animals, like elephants, that we think should be large are small and animals that are normally small, like mice, are large on Rotundia.
The Deliverers of their Country - Effie gets something in her eye, only to discover it is a tiny dragon! More dragons start appearing everywhere. How to get rid of them?
The Ice Dragon, or do as you are Told - George and Jane disobey their parents by going out of their garden one evening and taking the "road" from London to the North Pole where they encounter the Ice Dragon and the Sealskin Dwarfs.
The Island of the Nine Whirlpools - story of a princess stranded on an island with a dragon and a griffin because the king was very cross with his wife for not specifying that she wanted a son! Nigel, a sailor boy watches the whirlpools and notices that for 5 minutes every day they are still. Once on the island he then has to do his sums to figure out exactly when that time will coincide with the dragon being asleep for 3 minutes.
The Dragon Tamers - John (a blacksmith), his wife and baby are humble people. How can they tame the dragon that appears?
The Fiery Dragon or the Heart of Stone and the Heart of Gold - Story of Sabrinetta, a princess and Elfin, the owner of 75 pigs.
Kind Little Edmund, or the Caves and the Cockatrice - Edmund is a very curious little boy & so wants to discover the source of the rumblings he hears. No one believes his "stories" ever so he is often caned by the headmaster. (Please remember this book was written back when discipline in schools by caning was the norm.)
This is a keeper for our library. A wonderful classic, well written, imaginative book! I would have given this book 5 stars if the illustrations were included as they are really good.
Just good fun. Read them to your kids.
I had no idea what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised over and over and over. And over.
This collection of short stories was fun, the motivations of the children in each story well designed and believable, and each story emphasized choices being made and the consequences of their actions. The children are not a bunch of goody-goodies, sneaking off at night to the North Pole and such, but they learn moral lessons along the way.
Even though it's called the Book of Dragons and they do appear in each story, it's less about the dragons and more about the children.

    you should read this book
this is basicly diary of a zombie books two-six i highly recomend it for 6-9 yeear old minecraft lovers.the main characters are z bonnie and steve trevor is not here thatt much in books 4-6.
    Another great addition
This is a great mini omnibus consisting of 6 short stories. The stories are written in a manner that is enjoyable for my 7 year old (I've started reading a couple to him) as well as for my 11 year old daughter. My youngest actually is reading some of the other books this author has written at school so having this at home is nothing short of awesome.
As I noted, we aren't through the book yet, far from it but it's been outstanding thus far and my kids have loved it and the other works. There is a lot of relatable life situations in the stories (as other reviewers have indicated in greater detail) but being in the format it takes (IE: Minecraft) it seems the little ones seem to take it more to heart. Kids don't seem to enjoy hearing their parents drone on and on about situations or circumstances they might encounter but when it is framed in a book, wrapped in something they love (Minecraft), it seems to actually hit home a bit harder. We love the writer's style and it's clear this type of fiction is here to stay.
I'll update my review when the whole book is finished (it's over 400 pages) but this is highly recommended!
fun collection of Wimpy Zombie stories
REVIEW: WIMPY ZOMBIEâS MINECRAFT DIARY by MC Steve is a collection of six short stories focusing on the adventures of a sixth grade zombie named Zombulon Grrgh (or Z for short), and his pals Bonnie the skeleton, Trevor the zombie pigman, Zâs brother and eighth grader R (Arrgh Grrgh), and their human friend Steve.
MC Steveâs WIMPY ZOMBIE anthology blends the journal writing-style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid â with the gaming adventures of Minecraftâ as the reader ventures into the world of sixth grader and zombie Zombulon Grrgh. From writing contests, school newspapers, bullies, holidays, and family fun, Z and his friends traverse the middle school world of learning, fun and adventure.
WIMPY ZOMBIEâS MINECRAFT DIARY is a fun collection of story lines with easy to read and understand text perfect for the middle grade reader, or the young at heart.
    Copy supplied for review.
    Middle School Fiction
A popular narration style for Middle School kids is journaling. Dear Diary, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, etc. This book adds illustrations in a chapter book format, to give the reader a few pages of text with a picture of Minecraft characters sprinkled every few pages. It is a long read for a J book.

    Title: Stepping Stones
    Subtitle: A Refugee Family's Journey
    Author: Margriet Ruurs
    Narrator: Margriet Ruurs, Falah Raheem
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 36 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-13-17
    Publisher: Orca Book Publishers
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
This unique book was inspired by the stone artwork of Syrian artist Nizar Ali Badr, discovered by chance by Canadian children's writer Margriet Ruurs. The author was immediately impressed by the strong narrative quality of Mr. Badr's work, and, using many of Mr. Badr's already-created pieces, she set out to create a story about the Syrian refugee crisis. Stepping Stones tells the story of Rama and her family, who are forced to flee their once-peaceful village to escape the ravages of the civil war raging ever closer to their home. With only what they can carry on their backs, Rama and her mother, father, grandfather, and brother, Sami, set out to walk to freedom in Europe.
    Members Reviews:
Stone art and story give life to Refugee Crisis
Margriet Ruurs is an author devoted to directly engaging with people around the world, listening to the stories of their lives and often incorporating those experiences into books. Among those are My Librarian Is A Camel and School Days Around the World.
Her most recent book has an origin story all it's own, which she describes well in the author's note at the front of the book, STEPPING STONES: A Refugee Family's Journey. Its artwork is created by Nizar Ali Badr, a stonework artist/sculptor whose creations can be seen on his Facebook page, here. He's a resident of Latakia, Syria, and his visions find expression through the stones he collects along the river's edges. The story of Ruurs' discovery of Badr, their connection, and their joint mission is best read in the author's own words.
Within a few weeks I'll post an interview with Margriet and explore their process more fully. For now, I simply want to spotlight a book that should be read by everyone. When I say "everyone", I'm not speaking figuratively. It's published in English and Arabic, but the text and art are so well-integrated in the book design that it could be understood as a wordless book, and that's no offense to the author. Ruurs has constructed a narrative path for a universally recognizable family from their simple but safe home in Syria, through life-threatening crisis, on a journey with devastating risks and horrors, to eventual resettlement in a safe and welcoming new home.
In one scene tiny pebbles might constitute a path; in another, harvested food, rooster feathers, birds' wings, or flower petals. Shifts in angles and joinings change the stone scenes from secure workday routines to desperate escapes and mournful memorials. Throughout it all, the continuity of family, flowers, sun and moon, despair, hope, and love call out to the reader of words and scenes. This is book that does not allow us to turn away, as we so often do when faced with the humans represented here through stone art and story.
Composed of the stones and scraps found around the artist's feet, characters rise to life from horizontal background surfaces where they are photographed before disappearing. It's a frighteningly painful parallel to the real lives being disrupted and lost as a result of never-ending, undeclared war.
Scene after scene expresses emotions, invites questions, and tells stories. Ruurs' text, mirrored in Arabic, unfolds the tragedy before our eyes through potent poetic phrasing and figurative fluency.
