DI Gilchrist again more drama in fyfe area for the police to sort out im am well hooked to these books have nearly run out of them

Disappointing

The weakest book so far. Whilst the narrator is good, the plot is weak, overly complicated and DCI Gilcrists transformation into an arrogant git is now complete. Less a character than a caricature ....

Not for the Squeamish

It has to be said that none of the Gilchrist books have exactly been for the squeamish, the plots have tended towards relatively gruesome crimes. However, in The Meating room T F Muir really goes for broke in attempting to wrest the crown of psycho capital of Scotland towards St Andrews and away from Glasgow and Edinburgh. It quickly becomes obvious that this is a story of the macabre, the description of the books second crime scene is genuinely disturbing making this poorly suited to reading with your supper!

If, like me, you can get over that then this is the most action-packed of the series to date and the ending is a breathless scene-switching caper that does take just a little suspension of belief. Muir really puts his characters through their paces and isnt scared to let a little tragedy into their own personal worlds.

In all this one ups the ante in many ways but still retains the excellent characters that Muir has built for the series. Once you understand Jessie she becomes more real and Gilchrist, well hes still the maverick, still gets into silly scrapes and is still entertaining because of it. The narration from David Monteath is as good as ever.

Still happy to recommend this series!

Has anyone else been left with the impression that the author isn't too keen on women?

Preferred the earlier books

I have read all of the series, but find them less satisfying than previously. The character of Jessie wasn't quite so annoying as in the last book but she is quite unbelievable and no idea why she has a son who is deaf, a superfluous non-character. The earlier books had a better sense of the town, which is why is like books about 'real' places in other countries. I think the author needs a change of direction, either for the main character or his books in general.

enjoyable

I don't regularly read this sort of genre but I read it as it was suggested from a friend of mine. I felt like I was at the theatre watching a Grisham-like thriller movie. If you enjoy this sort of thing, I would highly suggest this book. I've read Grisham and authors like him before and found it boring because it seems to drag on foreverm like day time soaps. However, with this book, it skips a lot of the dragging unnecessary details and goes straight to the next action scene without losing your imagination on what is going on. This is what made me stay interested, finish quickly and enjoy it.

Terrific Book

I was completely blown away with this book. The author is so descriptive and detailed with his writing skills, it was like watching a movie in my mind. I could not put the book down once I started reading it. I just started reading "Born to Matter", another terrific book by Michael Miller.

Look out Stephen King!

Special talents

Loved this great adventure. Danny Wilson is a special boy. His parents worry about some headaches he is having, but when they fund out that the reason for the head aches is actually a rare sixth lobe in his brain that is when the adventure starts. Police, Government and gangsters all get involved, wanting Danny's special talent for themselves. I loved this, the second novel I have read by Michael Miller. The writing style is easy to read and pulls the reader in until they are lost in a terrific story. Great job!

RIVETING!!!

The beginning captures the reader's attention immediately. The relatability of the characters and the fascinating descriptions of the situations and thickening plot compel the reader throughout. The author has an uncanny ability to keep the reader constantly entertained. The ending is absolutely wonderful and will knock your socks off! It leaves only one question in my mind. Which production company will be the first to find this diamond in the rough and turn it into a box office blockbuster?!

Absolutely captivating. I could not put it down. It usually takes me months to finish a book, but i couldn't put this book down until it was finished! Michael knows exactly how to keep your attention. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next with Danny. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a stimulating fun read. Get ready to become captivated by Miller's book!! I look forward to the sequel!!!

Interesting mystery.

Family, culture, expectations, betrayal

The police suspect a family of murdering a young girl who may have tried to break away from their strict cultural standards of proper behavior. The lives, religion, and cultures of Moslem immigrants and the Danish population conflict in many ways, but are also surprisingly similar when families must cope with tragedy.

Great author

Another Blaedel hit! She writes super Danish novels of suspense. The characterization is excellent and the locales are so true. Wonderful and picturesque writing.

A choice for murder

The murder of teenage Jordanian girl from an immigrant family is a challenge in cultural appreciation, especially at the family level. The specter of an 'honor' killing looms. The role and influence of the press becomes complicated in an issue that arouses strong public sentiment.

In their search for suspects, investigators must deal with values that are initially incomprehensible and repugnant in order to understand the mind of a killer. Strong emotion could blind individual investigators, but team members balance each other out and keep the investigation open and fair.

The choices of the women and their consequences in their family is the underlying current in this mystery story. Louise Rick is a gifted investigator who works through the family and cultural tangles to solve this crime. A clear, insightful, and exciting read.

Another great story from Kathryn Fox and once it starts you can't stop listening. I have loved Kathryn's books from the start and this story doesn't disappoint. No spoilers here but a great book.

Combination of a rejuvenated romance and a murder

Authoress Erica Falck is the first to discover her childhood friend, Alex, in an ice cold bath with her wrists slashed. Initially it appears to be a case of suicide but soon it is discovered that she couldn't have killed herself. As Erica is asked to write the obituary, she starts investigating the life of Alex, particularly the years following their school days, and this throws up a number of anomalies. Detective Patrik Hedström (another childhood friend) is in charge of the police investigation so the two find themselves working together.

This story proves to be a wonderful combination of the rejuvenated romance between these lead characters entwined with twists and turns of the murder plot. As with many thrillers, the answers lie in events in the past, and slowly fragments of information are unearthed and pieced together until the murderer and motive are discovered.

Totally worthwhile

Disappointing

The story was choppy, the differences between the ending of one book together was abrupt. The should've just been one book instead of three so I wouldn't waste my time and money on three books. Totally disappointing don't waste your time and money

This is one of a trilogy. I have discovered I do NOT like sequels. The book itself is superb, carries your interest, through all three books. I highly would recommend this set, having lined each one, to read in order.
